George Jones - Wonders You Perform Lyrics

Oh Lord, you know that I'm not
One to bother you with little things
And you and I have never been too close
But we've always been on speakin' terms
I've watched you with doin' things
And tried to understand you more than most
No I haven't gone to church the way I ought to
But I always thought you knew
In my own way I worshipped you
While even your own children
Doubt and fail to understand
The simple way you go about the things you do
I've seen the doubt upon the face of loved ones
As they sadly placed a wreath of flowers on a tiny grave
And wondered why a child is brought into the world
To only live a little while and die, you could have saved
But I believe that in your eyes
This little child was somethin' special
And you wanted it to be with you, no doubt
So with out-stretched arms you beckoned
It's so simple that I reckon
They can't understand the way you worked it out
Once I saw a young man growin'
Till he neared the age of knowin'
Then I watched as somethin' happened to his mind
No doctor could correct it
It was just as I suspected
And I marvelled at your way of bein' kind
They tried everything in vain and
I was there when they explained it
To the family, how he slipped into a trance
Guess you looked into the future
Watched him turn his back upon you
Lovin' him so much you couldn't take the chance
It took a lot of love to die
For sinners such as I
And I guess that's why you've never given up on me
You understood when some denied you
And even when they crucified you
Knowin' all these things were meant to be
For the stable's such a simple thing
No wonder there were few who came
To see a king the night that...

    A.... H....

Sadly for us Jean went home 25th Sept last year! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMWi1_wclX4

    A.... H....

heyhey1956 I know. She is still great. Hopefully, she is entertaining in heaven.

  30. M.... C....

Who’s the young blonde, she looks out of place?

  31. c.... e....

As much as I love Jean Shepards voice, I still think Virginia Wynette Pugh aka Tammy Wynette.... had the most rich earthy voice in country music!!!

    c.... e....

The song The Wonders You Perform was written by Jerry Chesnut and was first released by Tammy Wynette in 1970 so everybody associated this song with Tammy before Jean or Connie Smith, Jean even admits Tammy had the best version out of everybody it's still a very powerful song whoever sings it!

    c.... e....

Prefer Jean's version. Like Tammy & Connie as all great singers, but Miss Shepard has this one. Her voice had most feeling probably because she was living some of it as she sang. RIP Jean & Tammy.

  32. c.... e....

    Beautiful straight forward voice

    c.... e....

Jean was a legend especially with Ferlin Husky and the 'Dear John' song which was a huge hit! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZcsK08_ZDY

  33. m.... ....

    Miss you  sweet Jean!!!!!

  34. J.... L....

Jean Shepherd RIP. A beautiful gospel song, with so much meaning.

  35. J.... B....

This beautiful lady is amazing to be able to sing this strongly in her old age. Now in Jesus arms

  36. j.... m....

This lady was a treasure. Also so sweet to see Joey and Rory Feek in the back there....knowing what Joey herself would have to go through ....bittersweet.

  37. M.... ....

    BEAUTIFUL!

  38. D.... H....

It's true Tammy Wynette did the by far the best version---Jean & Connie Smithe both did a good job as well!

  39. L.... W....

THIS SONG IS WONDERFUL JEAN SINGS IT WITH FEELING. I NEVER CAN LISTEN TO THIS JUST ONCE.

  40. R.... T....

Just as we lost great artist in 2016 Jean Sheppard as well.

  41. A.... M....

Miss Jean l sure miss you l keep listening to this tapes your voice is so strong. l can't get enough of your music. Miss Jean you and Miss Kitty did such a wonderful thing for country music you two opened the doors for women. l know that there is other women that helped to open the doors but the others had easier because of you and Miss Kitty had already had did the hard work for the women singers. thank you and God bless you two women.

  42. N.... G....

That's a good song!!! I didn't realized she was such a great singer.

    N.... G....

    she was great, for sure.

  43. L.... C....

  44. J.... ....

  45. L.... C....

When was this recorded?  Is it a session of CFR?  RIP Jen you're up there with so many others gone before you.

    L.... C....

It was recorded during CFR 'God Bless America Again' series that was taped I believe in 2014!

  46. c.... ....

How could anybody 'Thumbs Down' this. I always love to hear Jean sing and she did a beautiful job on this song. Her voice was still strong. Rest in Peace, Jean.
