George Jones - The Door Lyrics

I've heard the sound of my dear old mama crying
And the sound of the train that took me off to war
The awful sound of a thousand bombs exploding
And I wondered if I could take it anymore

There were times when they almost drove me crazy
But I did my best and took it like a man
And who would think in my lonely room I'd hear it
The one sound in the world my heart can't stand

To hear that sound and to know its really over
Through tear stained eyes I watched her walk away
And of earthquakes, storms and guns and war
Lord, nothing has ever hurt me more than that lonely sound
The closing of the door

And of earthquakes, storms and guns and war
Lord, nothing ever hurt me more than that lonely sound
The closing of the door...

    T.... B....

@Thomas Boner yes you are lol jk i like it all

    T.... B....

@Thomas Boner I prefer his 50s/60s recordings. The things he did with Billy Sherrill are often too polished for my taste.

    T.... B....

They are all Great. I started liking him with his first #1 White Lightening.

    T.... B....

No you're not the only one. His voice seems to have gotten better with each new recording!

    T.... B....

Thomas Boner but having said that all of Jones's recordings from 1954 to his last are amazing.

  79. d.... p....

the greatest county music singer ever

  80. j.... t....

    is great!

  81. j.... t....

He is fantastic,,I have a karaoke machine, and I have tracks of almost all his songs. I have sang all of them and it is great fun,,I would never even try to be as good, but when I was young,(a long, long, time ago) I sang in a number of bands,,and George was always my favourite. Just imagine my happiness when, about six weeks ago I was sitting in my room singing along with Wild Irish Rose, and a neighbour asked if she could borrow that C.D. of George singing,,,,Just made my day..I am 70

  82. n.... c....

  83. T.... D....

The pain he songs with such Sorrow and regret

  84. v.... d....

  85. b.... ....

  87. M.... C....

LOVE THIS SONG OF GEORGE JONES! IT JUST TOUCHES MY HEART.

  88. l.... s....

    you know this is grate

  89. K.... H....

Mr. Jones is the best country singer ever. What a catalog of songs he has produced!

  90. s.... ....

It don't get no better than this guy!
    The Possum is King

  91. F.... D....

He is at the top of my list.

  92. m.... j....

I think that this must be the saddest song in country music, very heartwrenching.

  93. B.... B....

I don't think that it was an accident. Maybe when they did the final touches at the end of producing someone realized that that sound should be there. But if that was true, they should have realized to put it at the end of the song too. After all, it's over-she just left and that was the last thing that she did while in his presence.- And also,it signifies the end of the song.

  94. G.... S....

I read somewhere that the sound of the closing door in the song was actually an accident but was kept in because it fit so well.

  95. B.... B....

At the end of the song there should have been a closing of the door like there is at the 1:35 mark
HOW DID THEY MISS THAT ?

  96. 1.... ....

this is like warm bread and butter

  97. J.... B....

    @mjy325 he is

  98. J.... P....

i have most of his early songs on record and put lots of them on c.d,s. and give them away.the slamming of the door was an acident and on the play back, discovered it there and left it in.amazing, was in the perfect spot.not any one close to him today, and i never listen to the radio, and i have xm radio.just listen to the old music like this one.hope every one has listened to him singing wild flowers blooming on mom and papas grave and when mama sang, the angels stopped tolisten

  99. w.... ....

goosebumps man, insane how good this song is
