George Jones - Old Brush Arbors Lyrics

(Old brush arbors by the side of the road.)

I remember them so clearly,
Mom and dad loved them so dearly.
Old brush arbors by the side of the road.
Where I learned about salvation,
From the book of Revelation.
And in arbors by the side of the road.

Old brush arbors by the side of the road,
Where a sinner could lay down his heavy load.
It was in those old brush arbors,
Troubled souls found peaceful habor.
Brush arbors by the side of the road.

Many times I had departed,
From the way of life I started.
In them arbors by the side of the road.
But each time the devil caught me,
I remember what they taught me.
In brush arbors by the side of the road.

Old brush arbors by the sude of the road,
Where the mighty light of God's great mercy flowed.
There was praying, shouting, singing,
Till the country side was ringing.
Brush arbors by the side of the road...

My uncle, Rufus Edward Gandy used to play this song on the guitar! I never got to hear him play, though! He died on April 7 of 2015 because his wife had him drugged up and she tried to make him not know anything! She even kept him away from his family which was absolutely unacceptable! She would not let anyone see him at the funeral home! Everyone called him Frog, though! I miss him! October 10, 1944- April 7, 2015

Thank you for sharing this wonderful song.
It brings back memories of Ward 19, Morisset mental hospital NSW. where I worked with my mate Ken Payne. He kept a Brush Arbor with some of the patients, out in the bush. I only stayed 6 years, left in 1978.
But we brought happiness in the lives of those patients with music and singing, every weekend. Some have died knowing that there is a God who loves them.
My mate passed away in May of 2010, a great guy. His fav. song was, "Who Am I"
We argued about the scriptures, played music and sang Hymns each time we were on the same shift. He was Sr. and I Jr. roundsman on night shift and we visited 21 wards, to help out with trouble spots.
Some day we'll meet up with those patients, in a far better land without sickness and sorrow and tears.
They have closed down the hospital many years ago. So, if there are nursing staff still on this earth, who can remember me; God bless you. 9.2.15

I really do think that Ernie Mitchell is RIGHT about the country singers today. They are not country.

George Jones greatest country singer ever and ever will be pure country.

  31. G.... M....

George Jones and Porter Wagoner were and still are my tonic should the blues or doldrums come around. My faith tells me I'll soon see them when my day has arrived. I pray that this and all of the old school gospel music never loses it's power GOD willing and the creek don't rise. Shalom, Sa-lam, Peace unto all.

Are you serious? You rank Hank Jr as the greatest? He wouldn't even make my top 20. George Jones is #1.....and it isn't even close.

  38. L.... ....

Third greatest behind those Williams boys.
    1) Hank Jr.
    2) Hank Sr.
    3) George Jones

  39. R.... M....

One of the greastest country singers to have ever grace the stage. This man has brought so much joy to millions of people through his elustious career.

  40. o.... ....

You can hear Lefty Frizzell's influence on George here. Which of course, I like ...sorry, LOVE XD

  41. J.... T....

Just got my faith in God back!

  42. L.... ....

@chuckypfrmhky The spoken word of God from the King James Bible woos a receptive heart to get down on your knees and pray. This song falls far short of that.

  43. O.... O....

Beautiful rendition. Never did a bad song.

  44. r.... ....

thank you...this song means a bunch to me...where i serve the Lord and whom i serve Jesus alongside... there is woman who lost her mother recently here, and she too is a George fan.... this is helping me pray for her, and for our entire Church family here on Brusharbor Rd. :-)

  45. M.... ....

George is one of my favourite ! Thanks to you to give me the chance to hear it .... My old LP is so "scratchy" ..... Hello from Belgium !
