George Jones - Milwaukee, Here I Come Lyrics

Well, I'm a gonna get on that ol' turnpike and I'm gonna ride
I'm a gonna leave this town till you decide
Which one you want the most them Opry stars or me
Milwaukee here I come from Nashville, Tennessee.

Milwaukee is where we were before we came here
Workin' in a Bluerry making the finest steer
You come to me on payday night said let's go to Tennessee
So we came down to Nashville to the Grand Ole Opry.

Well, we were watchin' TV, Ernest Tubb was singin' loud
I said that's the man for me, I love him there's no doubt
I'm leavin' you there's no doubt to find out where he's at
Never can get 'em, I'm settled for that bluegrass Lester Flatt.

Oh, I'm a gonna get on that ol' turnpike and I'm gonna ride
I'm a gonna leave this town till you decide
Which one you love the best me or Jerry Lee
Milwaukee here I come from Nashville, Tennessee.

I'm a goin' now and trade my ol' Ford for a nose
Honey, I might get all drunk up and trade it for the rose
There's a one thing I know for sure I'll always be blue
There ain't no way get drunk enough to stop lovin' you.

So, I'm a gonna get on that ol' turnpike and I'm gonna ride
I'm gonna leave this town till you decide
Which one you love the best me or Jerry Lee
Milwaukee here I come from Nashville, Tennessee.

Oh, Milwaukee here I come from Nashville, Tennessee...

  6. m.... p....

Tammy had a unique way of cutting off the first 1/1000 thousands of a word before it came out of her mouth. It was her signature style.

  7. R.... C....

    video-audio mismatch

  22. s.... ....

Whoa - I didn't realize Pat Sajak did a duet with Tammy. Good stuff.

    s.... ....

I'm sure your "Pat Sajak" comment was either because you're young or ignorant. Pat Sajak is a nonentity game-show host. George Jones is one of the best singers on this earth, ever. A slight difference.

  23. S.... R....

    stephen liks this songs

  24. K.... K....

I'm sure she had NO idea here that she was going to take a ride through HELL and back with this man? Certainly would have never guessed that he would have outlived her either!Such is life.

  25. s.... ....

    Dig the steel guitar.

  26. R.... A....

Brenda carter did song with George first.
Tammy did good here on the Wilbur brothers
Show in 69 they just been married not long.

    R.... A....

Personally Tammy was much better than Brenda on this!!!

  27. h.... ....

You have some good songs on your channel sir, thanks for uploading :)

  28. A.... ....

'only one way to describe Tammy's voice' There seems to be a "tear" in her voice, you can really catch it on a slow song. Tammy loved Jones all her life, G R and a few others broke that union up, Jones was fed drugs, Tammy was fed lie's, They loved each other till death, Now together forever singing for our King... The President and First Lady of Country Music!!!

  29. A.... ....

@Faye Jean Kaylor! check your facts! Stand by your man is the #1 song of the country music history! 'he stopped loving her today' is #2 it's history check it!! Tammy and Jones will forever be #1.....

  30. R.... G....

Well I wash we had this kind of music and Tammy wynette and George Jones when they sing it was magic

  35. j.... p....

    This was America

  36. d.... ....

This is real country music and I love the song!! The harmonizing is fantastic. They really were good together. I wish we had good country like this now. All I hear on country stations now is SAMENESS. I can't distinguish one voice from another...it's like they play the same record all day long. No thanks. I prefer George and Tammy!!!

  37. F.... J....

George Jones was my favorite singer of all times. He was and will remain one of a kind. His song "He Stopped Loving Her Today" is the number one song of all time. The Bible promises a resurrection for the righteous and the un righteous. George had many problems but the wages of sin is death. I will look for him in the resurrection.

  38. i.... ....

newly parried ... so this wd be 1969. Tammy's do looks just like 1969. George's too.

  39. T.... ....

Don't R.I.P GEORGE BE WILD AND ROWDY IN THE NEXT RELM,LIKE YOU WERE HERE... I KNOW YOU WILL.. YOU WILL BE MISSED HERE ON EARTH!

  40. n.... ....

    tremendous.

  41. S.... ....

From Milwaukee...(well pretty damn close) rest in peace. Country music won't know what to do with out you... we lost another legend and now were stuck listening to this modern crap. We suffered a true loss today!

  42. M.... ....

    r.i.p. george, love & GOD's blessings.

  43. M.... ....

MISS U so much GEORGE (& tammy) u are the king george..tammy ur the queen ! love me some george ! ! ~! ! !

  44. S.... D....

Agreed. I'm listening to her D-I-V-O-R-C-E on XM Radio and the picture that arose in my mind was Barbara Stanwyck. I had to go Googling to see if I was the only one who thought so. :)

  45. C.... B....

George and Tammy never looked happyer, as they do in this video.

  46. S.... ....

I am just stunned by the level of talent on display in this video! George, Tammy, and that Steel Guitar player!

  47. T.... L....

WHOA! Tammy! There's something about her tone that just makes her singing wonderful!

  48. J.... W....

John Prine is one of the best songwriters around, but he can't sing for s@#$.

    J.... W....

His voice is perfect for his music just like Dylan's is for his.

  49. T.... S....

GREATEST MAN!!!!!!!!!!!! and that steal player had chills running up my back!!!! WOW

  50. G.... J....

Very good song i like that george and tammy is very good singers

  51. G.... A....

I know that Tammy loved George with all her heart --she just couldn't handle his erratic behaviour when he was drinking ---and ---they would have been together I believe If George Richey hadn't came on the scene and broken everything apart --I know she stayed married to Richie but he abused her too .

  52. S.... ....

My favorite song by george & tammy!! strange that this song was never recorded with george & tammy only george & brenda carter did, thank you for the posting!!

  53. s.... ....

I love George but I worship Tammy !

  54. m.... ....

@owsleyforkmusic IMHO, Karen Carpenter and Janice Joplin are the only two who sound good when their voice cracks.

  55. R.... M....

Tammy didn't love George?news to me...Can't believe he for got his brand new wifes name...She was a little scared at the beginning of the song...Their daughter Georgette is a babe and has a great voice...check her out on "I just don't give a damn" song

  56. c.... ....

Certainly the coolest couple of hillbilly's ever, and two of the greatest voices of all time!

  57. D.... A....

Tammy wynette is the only singer that when their voice cracks or somethin it sounds good.

  58. B.... I....

Él es Igualito a Woody (Toy Story)!!!

  59. C.... B....

Is it Jim Carrey??? hehehe! In this video, old George is realy looking like Jim!

  60. J.... W....

    I can't stop playing this,I love it!

  61. m.... ....

@benwitt1 I wonder who Loretta would choose since she was best friends of both. I agree about Patsy doing crossover. I wish she would have focused more on country. Her voice had the ability to do crossover.

  62. m.... ....

Tammy looks just like Steffi Graf in this video.

  63. m.... ....

    Doyle Wilburn is hilarious.

  64. C.... B....

@mrbobevans Better than Patsy, at least a better selection of songs...more country, less cross over

  65. J.... J....

    And that ladies and gentlemen..

    Is Country Music

  66. P.... ....

Did I forget to say how much I loved the steel part. Hal Rugg

  67. P.... ....

Ain't nothing better. What a voice. Hers and his.

  68. c.... ....

Steinsteel: to say that Tammy did not love George whole heartedly is totally wrong. If you know anything of their history you know they were both madly in love.

  69. G.... A....

    great post thank you

  70. D.... D....

My Mother sang this all the time to me as a child growing up....I loved it !!! ty 4 sharing it!

  71. H.... B....

i dont think the audience knew how much awesomeness they were about to experience

  72. m.... ....

Just like Patsy Cline, Tammy had a unique voice - nobody sounds like her.

  73. C.... R....

Im proud to say i was k realated to tammy her and my mother look so much alike i wish i culd have been able to meet her she has a beutiful voice :)

  74. s.... ....

You can see that George is madly in Love with Tammy. She did not love him just his fame. But good Lord how they could sing together.

    s.... ....

They love one another tell the end..

  75. E.... B....
