George Jones - Memories Of Us Lyrics
The old man has sold his apples
Isn't there any more
And the city square don't seem as big
As it did before.
We used to love so much
But everything is still the same
In my memories of us.
That old school bus has long stopped runnin'
And I heard the driver died
And the movie house is all boarded up
Where we set side by side.
And the sign that said 'State Champions'
But everything it's still the same
In my memories of us.
In my memories of us
Things are still the same
For yesterdays is something
Tomorrows can not change.
Where freckles just don't disappear
Ands pigtails never rust
And everything it's still the same
In my memories of us.
My memories of us...

George Jones Memories Of Us Comments
Love it
So sad, George was taking cocaine when he released this song memories of us.
His hair looked great! What a good look from the 1970s.
What a great voice.
He's The Best------- There is never going to be near GEORGE!!!
This is what vocal perfection sounds like. I mean just listen how this man could SING the word dust. Wow.
I think this song evokes wayback memories in all of us 50's and 60's guys and dolls. With out a doubt, a genuine tear jerker performed by GEORGE with seemingly little effort.
I personally think the studio version of this song lacks the punch this performance has, it's all in the phrasing of his words and the emotive, plaintive backing shuffle of his band.
I agree. I think this song has to be played live, in order to communicate the emotion. I'm amazed at the ability of the band and george, to perform this song so slow and soft. Timing is everything and this is a masterpiece.
Where can we see the rest of this concert?
Simply the finest country singer to ever breathe air and stand on dirt.
It does not get any better than this...one of his greatest & one of my favorites.
Absolute perfection by a Genius, appears effortless on George's part.
Words fail me after that performance. Just a real heartbreaking song by George, what did you or I expect ??
saw him many times as a dj in texas, one of his best when he was drunk in beaumont 1979.
country music
Brilliant 🎸🎵😍
Difficult to understand that this song was not a chart topper. Just love this song. His voice is at its best for that time in his life.
karen barnett Also what is hard to understand is why only 24 thousand views? Should be 24 million at least. New "no talent" artist are pushing the billion mark while so many haven't ever heard of George Jones. What a shame!
Good Country music. Not today's watered down crap they call country music
Love this song !!!!!
If there is any chance of obtaining the whole show on this night I would be happy to pay. Is this a possibility? I have probably watched this over a hundred times and it gets better each time!
ERIC SMITH plz jesus
I as well. Would love if the whole concert were released.
How was this song not a hit back in the day? This song has excellent poetry!!
George Jones at his best!! In my home state too!! Hell Yea!!
great song and video.
You can see that musicians behind him know that this was a great performance. For all George's greatness -- and he was the absolute best in any genre -- he was a very variable performer. I saw great concerts and I saw lousy ones. This one, though, is surely among the best. Brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for posting it.
Yeah, George could get sloppy sometimes; I think having to sing the same songs thousands of times would make you that way. But when he was feeling it, it sure sounded good. You should look up George's full concert in Louisiana in 1983.
yes every night depending on his mood almost every song would be different and Amazing, a one off never to be seen or heard again, we were blessed to have lived in his time
Perfection. Pure, absolute, undiluted, seemingly effortless perfection.
I agree......wow....this is true country music! He is hands down the greatest singer in history!
Awesome video. Thank you for posting. I live in Columbia. What venue was this? Although this was before my time, its such an honor to see this legend perform. The Voice of Country Music.
This concert was at the SC State Fair.
My how far the State Fair has fallen
all you can say is wow
BEYOND WORDS. I CANT EVEN THINK OF ANYTHING TO SAY IN PRAISE
What a song!!! And George sings it the very best.
george is so immersed in this performance that to witness his profound vulnerability feels almost like a violation of his privacy. "where freckles just don't disappear /and pigtails never rust" - only george can elevate the bathos of this lyric to the sublime. peerless.
I am not even sure sublime is adjective enough, I really believe GOD gave him that voice for a reason.
Loved his voice, you know it took me a couple times to really get into that song, when i was 20 yrs.old in 1975, but man how could you not like anything he sang, he was amazing.
He is just soooo damned good it leaves me at a loss for words. I love the shoes Jones was wearing on the cover of this album!
This song is legendary just like George, and this live version is great. Thank you!!!
ah just wonderful tnx so much to historysc, this is AMAZING and so great to get these rare live ones on here , the worlds greatest , doin it like no one else will ever be able to
Wow I love it please put up more if you can. This is just to priceless to not post the whole show if you can.
+ a million. That might have been his show of shows.
Love it!
Yes. More please.
Where in the name of God can I get this whole show?!
