George Jones - High-Tech Redneck Lyrics

He's got thirteen channels of wrestling
Comin' in strong from a satellite send
A two hundred function remote control
Big screen TV with stereo
Football, baseball, nascar too
With picture in a picture it's all in view
And if it comes on just a little too late
With his VCR's he'll get it on tape.

He's a high-tech redneck
Mayberry meets Startrek
He's a bumpkin' but he's plugged in
He's a high-tech redneck.

He's got twenty sub-woofers in the back of his truck
A thousand watts of power and he keeps it cranked up
He ain't into hip hop, he ain't into rap
He likes to rattle them speakers with Ronnie Milsap
CD cassette digital tape, CB radar and scannin' short wave
And if he needs to talk to his honey at home
He just dials up her number on his cellular phone

He's a high-tech redneck
Mayberry meets Startrek
He's a bumpkin' but he's plugged in
He's a high-tech redneck.

He's a high-tech redneck
Mayberry meets Startrek
He's a bumpkin' but he's plugged in
He's a high-tech redneck...

I thought this was going to hit #1 on the Billboard country singles charts for George Jones in early 1994. Reached #18 (old chart method) and #24 on the new method in late January 1994. Still a big hit though!!

older country really stands out today as the good stuff. jamey johnsons stuff is about as close as u can get and thats why he isnt as huge as the others.

  23. J.... Z....

not bad, but still love organ music!

  24. T.... R....

I will miss the real country. it will be all pop soon. lol

  25. B.... ....

It's funny how one little thing can change your life. I was 11 when this came on CMT, and this is the song that really got me into country music. I was lucky enough to have an uncle that loved the classic country singers, and gave me a collection of CDs by George, Willy, Waylon, and the Hanks. The older I've gotten, the more their songs have spoken to me, in good times and bad. I was lucky enough to see George twice in concerts; sadly a talent the likes of which we will never see again.

    B.... ....

me too. I really got into country in 1991. I was 11 years old going on 12 and we got cable TV with CMT. I was like , wow!

    B.... ....

Same here for me with Hank Williams! When they write their lives it sure rings true. ;)

  26. A.... F....

    may me rest in peace

  27. J.... G....

I think he found out how cool he was yesterday. RIP GJ

RIP George I remember your tour at melody fair concert in Tonawanda NY and enjoyed it.
still got my hat.all your music will live on for ever and ever, just like all the other great singers.say hello to all of them from all of use still here on earth and we miss them as
    well.

  29. H.... ....

R.I.P. a legend laid to rest today.

  30. p.... ....

    Rest in Peace, George!

  31. T.... G....

Everybody remembers George for the weepers but he had some fun with the novelty songs too. If anything, this song predicted what a lot of C&W fans would be like today. That cell phone by today's standards is just below Gordon Gekko's in terms of pure clunk. Oh well, George you are loved and missed.

    T.... G....

Tony G. Pizza I remember this one from CMT back in the early 90s. Of course I knew George Jones from Dad’s record collection but this made me smile

Terminator 2 had just dropped and George is clearly not taking himself seriously so win-win!

  32. h.... ....

RIP Mr. George Jones. You will be missed.

  33. S.... S....

    RIP George.

  34. A.... W....

If Any Country Singer Understood How Great They Are They'd Surely Blow Up!

  41. J.... G....

    it's the george-inator

  42. D.... ....

One of the best, George Jones!!

  43. J.... J....

@StoogeWatcher @shelton705 I know. It's just funny to me that what use to be high tech is now low tech and out of date. What I find even funnier is Brad Paisley's online mentioning MySpace. It's not even that old of a song but no one uses MySpace even more. :P

  44. S.... O....

WOW! I always liked this song since I heard it a few years ago on a Country Line Dance CD I've got but I've never seen the video before! What a cool, funny video! I love it. George is awesome!

  45. s.... ....

    @JJohnston4Life
Darn him for not having an eye into the future. 20 years from now, the devices we have won't be high-tech either.

  46. a.... ....

@JJohnston4Life Yea but u gotta think, when's the last time u went out into the boondocks and saw this stuff lol

  47. J.... J....

It's funny because none of these devices are considered high-tech. In fact, it's all out-of-date.

    J.... J....

Jesse Johnston obviously ! The song’s like 20 years old now & even then the song was meant for laughs and probably used the oldest, biggest chunkiest looking tech for extra laffs

  48. 2.... ....

This is brilliant art.... to heck with the Lourve!

  49. u.... ....

    lol he says function

  50. T.... &....

Am I the only one that realizes he is saying 200 fuckin remote control?

  51. W.... J....

George, what a timeless classic for country music lovers

  52. m.... r....

@KLUNKET you have to admit george jones looks better at 80 than he did in 80

  53. t.... ....

    What a great singer!!!

  54. M.... ....

lol 2:17 wow didnt see that comig

  55. H.... P....

    @KLUNKET No he's the Georgeinator.

  56. b.... ....

  60. H.... P....

    The Georgeinator :D

  61. b.... ....

@Whatzupa I've been looking for an updated version. Let me know if you find it again.

  62. K.... ....

George Jones as the Terminator- awesome, simply awesome! His voice did act like a finely tuned machine for 50 years, and his body withstood more abuse than 10 men and he is still walkin and talkin at almost 80 years old- maybe he IS the terminator? I think if he actually understood how great he is his circuits would overload! lol

  63. J.... J....

lol, and this is all old technology. Stereo... lol Find me TV without stereo. Find mr a TV that goes back over an inch deep.

  64. J.... J....

@nickatdusk I love both of those songs.

  65. N.... A....

Songs like this, "It's Finally Friday", and "I Don't Need Your Rocking Chair" are too gimmicky, and can only help to degrade George's reputation. Kinda sucks that the record company made him record such crap.

  66. C.... W....

This song came out in 1993.

  67. T.... P....

uhh yea whewn i was likw 1 this song csame out im 14 now

  68. M.... A....

I remember being like 7 when I first heard this song, and I have loved it ever since....n now I'm 23...Nothing like some good ole country.....

  69. i.... ....

    this video is pure perfection

    keep rocking possum!
