George Ezra - Angry Hill Lyrics

He reads yesterday's news,
Cause today's just scares him.
Thinks of yesterday's blues,
Cause today's are just far too grim.
And it grows, on it grows.

And I see him down in the morning,
Lying blind without no warning.
Seen him running through the night,
Through the fall lead his enemies inside.
And it grows, on it grows.

And I'm learning how to walk,
Learning how to take my time,
Or the angels take him away and,
Lay his body six feet 'neath clay,
And it grows, on it grows.

And I see him burning to dust,
Seen him falling through the shadows,
Shed a tear and his cheek rusts,
Seen him falling through the shadows,
And it grows, on it grows.

And I'm learning how to walk,
Learning how to turn my back,
Or the angels take him away and,
Lay his body six feet 'neath clay,
And it grows, on it grows.

I'll walk and then I'll walk,
Lord, I'll walk, I'll walk and then I'll walk
Lord, I'll walk, Lord, I'll walk
I'll walk, Lord, I'll walk, Lord, I'll walk
Lord, I'll walk, Lord, I'll walk
And I'll walk, Lord, I'll walk, Lord, I'll walk
And it grows, on it grows.

He's as angry as the hills
He's got a mind and eyes and both set to kill, oh
Maybe that he may learn to walk,
And maybe that he may learn to take his time,
Maybe that I may learn to walk,
Maybe that I may learn to turn my back once more...

  49. Myeah Malalis

I've appreciated this song for so long, and up until now, I am still really grateful when I remember that Angry Hill exists in this world ❤

  50. Mr. Man

This is possibly the most detailed song ever. I have a clear picture in my head. Only the best songs can create a unique picture in someones mind. I have all senses. Smell, taste sight, hearing in my head when i listen to this song. It is a perfect melody of tragedy happiness and peace. It is truly a masterpiece.

  51. Ryan Mercer

Momilani on my Sons computer again. Would like to have all of G's songs. Some great songs were not picked for his last Album/CD. Could have another whole Set with what he has already! Mahalo Aloha!

  52. Vickie Dotson

So good, I feel my heart beat

  53. sunnyokapi

This is the kind of song that you don't just hear. You feel it and you taste it and you smell it and maybe even see it. It brings forth memories of darkness and it's pain but it's peace. There is such a connection I feel to this work of art and though I don't know George Barnett's meaning behind it I know what it means to me and I can't thank him enough for it.

    Bárbara Masu

I feel like that too, and I quite often need to fight the urge of closing my eyes when I listen to it while driving, lol! It's so perfect it can be that dangerous, hahaha!

    Haadi Qazi

    how fucking poetic

  54. Iwan Williams

love the live version so much more

  55. pitybowie

I see hope in this modern world. It call George Ezra.

  56. Bárbara Masu

This is so brilliant that I just can't listen to anything else, it's on repeat mode since I first listened to it!!!!!!! I keep thinking why he didn't make an official video for this amazing song yet... This is what I call perfection and I'm sure 53 people are uterlly deaf, cause they don't know what a quality music is made of.

    Mr. Man

I know exactly why there is no video. It's because there is no set meaning. It's supposed to mean whatever it means in your mind. Which makes it truly unique.

    Bárbara Masu

+Zachary Dimiceli, yeah, but even if the video were just him standing there singing with all the emotions showing off over his face it would worth it... It seems to me that if this song had a video maybe it would be known by a larger amount of people, you know? Since it's truly a masterpiece like you said, I wish it were broadcasted on the radio all round the world. I don't think I would have stumbled across this song if I didn't bought the album (and I bought it because of Budapest). This song is so awesome, but it's like nobody knew it, and I don't know why he doesn't promote it more often...

  57. Malin Hansen

I love George Ezra SO much I'm crying right now ... Oh my god, he has talent.

    Raghav Dhawan

+Malin Hansen No kidding. This guy is amazing

  58. Jason 56

I wish he would release an album that is only him and a guitar. He is talented enough for this.Unbelievable and genuine voice, only one in the industry

    Pancake Stack11

I totally agree! I love his non-acoustic music, but just his voice is equally good!

  59. Lotte Dings

I listen this song now for 1 year... still beautiful

  60. Vickie Dotson

OH, this song is so good. So so good just oh so good

    D'Artagnan Whiffen

    But is it good?

  61. Zinete Nery

    adoro suas músicas

  62. Faqihurrahman Andi

what is the meaning of the song? can somebody explain to me?

  63. Bita Murti

    amazing

  64. Hope Broome Saunders

George Ezra writes some truly beautiful stuff

  65. Grateful Minds Productions

America sucks because it has horrible music so unlike this I can't believe his voice! You are awesome George!!!

    Melissa Prescop

+AJ Brown Budapest got TONS of radio airplay last year here in America. Also, I've heard Blame It on Me several times on the radio. And George toured in the US most of 2015. I saw him live 3 times in Washington D.C. :)
I will agree, most of America's pop/mainstream music sucks, but some of it is good. If Budapest hadn't gotten so big over here I never would've found George, and neither would most of his US fans.

    Grateful Minds Productions

    +myperfectworld27 ya thats true

  66. Sharon Flores

Does anybody else think that the intro sounds like the intro to the Kansas song Dust in the Wind??

  67. SillyWilly

this is a song I want played at my funeral along with Barcelona and Budapest

  68. DeltaDoubleVictor

A George Ezra & Paolo Nutini duet would sound fantastic btw!!!!

  69. HAL TheBirdLady

    Dude, this guy is spectacular

    TheBri656

    Spectacular rival?

    Duck Overlord

+TheBri656 seriously nearly a year and you're the first to say that. good on you

  70. Chris Bond

do not forget.he is a singer/song writer..not this mass produced shit you hear on the radio everyday

  71. Chris Bond

this kid writes some damned good tunes.and he got the voice to follow them up

  72. lucethelo

    the introduction is so beautiful

  73. Rachael Faith

Why have i not heard this  till now! Love it!

  74. CADJewellerySkills

Just beautiful. I love how he sounds like he's been lifted out of a 1950's American proto-rock time warp, yet he's from Bristol.

  75. AntiR0b0t

One of my all time favourites. xoxo

  76. Jack Balcnion

OK so the problem I have is, how do you say BRILLIANT TRACK without trying to hype it up too much? People say music is dead,...listen to this, lord he goes...

  77. Amy Rogers

I love this song its my favourite George Ezra has such an amazing voice!

  78. jhanvi

My favorites by George Ezra are split between this song and Over The Creek - the talent is unbelievable.

  79. Charlotte H

this song honestly just gets to me - the sound, the build up, the lyrics and George's voice all work so well together; seriously beautiful

  80. Arte Designer3D

Excelente voz e canção. Música que viaja por constelações!

  81. Yasmin Padovan

  83. Liv Hines

I'm literally in love with all the songs on the EP. I think love might even be an understatement

  84. Emily Annear

I hadn't heard this song before as it's not on his Wanted on Voyage album but when i first heard this song, I literally fell in love with it. Love you George!

  85. Brad S Wills

Perfection IS his songs, inspiration in every sentence, write these and never stop writing, sing and never stop singing. Every song I hear of his gets more and more inspirational and every time I hear it, it stays as great as it was when new.

  86. Fleur Tamara

Because of the name I expected this song to be a darker, more intense song like Did You Hear the Rain..but when it started I just kind of smiled to myself at how gentle it was..this guy writes some beautiful stuff..

    gavin mcconnell

Listen to the lyrics, it sounds pretty dark to me, like a close loved one has passed away and hes trying to get himself together again

    Lucy Holmes

I also expected did you hear the rain to be a real soft and happy song, when it is the complete opposite. I love how he sometimes completely contrasts the melody with the title or lyrics - the dark lyrics with the soft melody makes this song so powerful in my opinion

  87. Samantha Philbrick

    Stunning

  88. Christie

Every one of his songs are the best I can never get enough of his music I hope he never stops singing or writing I love his music he is the best singer ever! :D

  89. Kess Maker

24/7 Listning to george ezra youre amazing greetings from holland

  90. Tabula Rasa

I almost never comment, but I found this AMAZING artist because his "Over the Creek" on and I've listened to all his music and Budapest, Barcelona, Over the Creek, Coat of Armour and this one are my favorites. I love his music and I wish I lived in Britain so I could hear him on the radio instead of Iggy Azalea or Meghan Trainor. This is REAL music and it's awesome!!!

    James Kalinowski

You never really hear him on the radio, same shit that gets played in America

    SUSAN E

AGREE! HIS VOICE IS SO UNIQUE! SAW HIM ON AUSTIN CITY LIMITS AND COULDNT GET HIM OUT OF MY HEAD!! LOVE BUDAPEST, BARCELONA & COAT OF ARMOUR!

    Paul Blyat

    Hell yeah

    Chris Jerrison

  92. Blondiest Doodliest

And just like that, I am in tears

  93. Janet DiGriz

I"d like you better if you didn't advertise for the destructive cult of scientology.

    Koala Farts

    Fuck off

  94. LyingPeaches

i have been looking for this and googling the lyrics and omg i am so happy i found it

  95. Rhiannon long

this song gets to me everytime

  96. Lisa Proude

Such a poignant yet soothing song that can mix ones emotions. George, with songs like these, you are here to stay. On another note, when I first heard this song, I could only think of the collective group from "The Walking Dead", especially for the character Rick Grimes for how dark he is becoming. Would certainly make for an interesting video to the song.

  97. NWcruisn

On the drive home I listened to a segment on NPR about this guy and had to listen to more of his music once home...........it's unique, soulful, poetic, amazing!  Read another comment on one of his songs, "baby face with an old man's voice", more like a soul man's voice............I'm 61 and yet I love this sound, it's ageless and timeless.  Later, have to order the CD...................................ENJOY!

  98. Henry Titi Cakeman

No sé como empieza pero me gusta!! :)

  99. Kassi Davis

This was released on my birthday!!
