Gentry, Bobbie - My Elusive Dreams Lyrics

I followed you to Texas
I followed you to Utah
We didn't find it there so we moved on
I went with you to Alabam'
Things looked good in Birmingham
We didn't find it there so we moved on

I know you're tired of following
My elusive dreams and schemes
Oh, they're only fleeting things
My elusive dreams

You had my child in Memphis
Then I heard of work in Nashville
We didn't find it there so we moved on
To a small farm in Nebraska
To a gold mine in Alaska
We didn't find it there so we moved on

And now we've left Alaska
Because there was no gold mine
But this time, only two of us move on
And now all we have is each other
And a little memory we cling to
And still you won't let me go on alone

I know you're tired of following
My elusive dreams and schemes
Oh, they're only pleading things
My elusive dreams

I know you're tired of following
My elusive dreams and schemes
Oh, they're only pleading things
My elusive dreams

  10. A.... B....

She is so under rated !

  11. m.... ....

I met her in Yorkdale Shopping mall shortly after this album was released.  She seemed so surprised that we knew her and graciously signed our school books.  I still have it.

  12. J.... J....

After a few plays to get accustomed I believe Slim Whitman does the best cover of this song. Love his falsetto ending. Very sweet and tender !!

  13. N.... d....

No, she is of Brazilian parentage.
The definitive interpretation is by George J and Tammy W - the recorded version.

  14. S.... ....

Love Bobbie Gentry ; Husky sultry voice ; when first saw her at age 13 had giant crush on her ; and still look for woman resembling her look

  15. D.... T....

Didn't Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood do a version of this?

    D.... T....

+Dave Thelander yes it is posted on you tube. its good but this one is smoother.. :)

    D.... T....

Dave Thelander tam my Wynette and George Jones as well

  16. M.... R....

  18. R.... D....

    beautiful, simply beautiful!

  19. t.... ....

Kinda like an old tyme Justin Beiber :)

  20. m.... ....

In my opinion not a Country singer sings as good as George Jones but in this case i prefer the Version of Glenn Campbell and Bobby Gentry and "The window up above" i prefere the Conway Twitty Version.

  21. a.... p....

I prefer the tammy wynette & George jones version but the original was tammy & david Houston

  22. M.... B....

Bobbie Gentry...still got a crush on her...dog gone she was gorgeous....

  23. d.... ....

Bobbie Gentry & Glen campbell was the first duets album in Country Music history to earn a gold certificate. It went #1 country and #11 on the top 200 album chart. It was also huge in Europe and had an international sale of close to 2 million- a staggering number for the late 1960's.

    d.... ....

His voice was like melted chocolate. Always has been.

  24. t.... p....

@ArgentumNZ i knew green grass was writen in the u.s. & it was a country song...what i meant was tom jones had the biggest crossover hit in my opinion...regards tommy (roger miller, king of the road is a damn great tune)

  25. A.... G....

@tommieparch Hahaha, both are good Roger Miller songs if I remember correctly. His version of Green Green Grass of Home is quite interesting (aka country) if the first you heard was the Jones boy. I still think that Miller does a better version of this though... there's a bit more futility and pain in his voice.

  26. r.... ....

Bobbie Gentry would look great in a 70 Dodge Charger.

    r.... ....

rossjohn93 She would look good in a flour sack.

  27. A.... ....

My favorite song on that album, which i still have.

  28. A.... v....

I prefer the duet of Tammy Wynette and Dave Houston singing this.

  29. E.... ....

I see Glen then when he was young but I cannot stop thinking of him as the drunk has been who Tanya Tucker called...."the horniest man ever'.......yuck I wanna go wash up

  30. J.... W....

For many years before I saw a picture of Bobbie Gentry,I thought she was African-American because of her husky voice.I mean absolutely nothing racist or stereotypical by that remark, but I'm just saying.

  31. s.... ....

Glen Campbell has a voice of liquid gold. Crazy song but I have always loved it! Can't resist it - diamond stuff.

  32. t.... p....

@ley68 do u think tom jones did the originl/ green green grass of home too ? even english singers gave an awkward shot at county. an aussie named keith urban is the biggest success tho. regards

  33. R.... G....

@srf1969 SWEETIE i REMEMBER IT ALL TOO WELL.tHEY WERE BIG STARS.

  34. R.... G....

I WILL NEVER EVER GROW TIRED LISTENING TO THIS SONG OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN!!! TNX A LOT!!!
