Genesis - Heathaze Lyrics
No cloud, a sleepy calm,
Sunbaked earth that's cooled by gentle breeze,
And trees with rustling leaves,
Only endless days without a care,
Nothing must be done.
Silent as a day can be,
Far-off sounds of others on their chosen run
As they do all those things they feel give life some meaning,
Even if they're dull.
It's time to stop this dreaming, must rejoin the real world
As revealed by orange lights and a smoky atmosphere.
The trees and I are shaken by the same wind but whereas
The trees will lose their withered leaves,
And they can't refresh me those hot winds of the south.
Oh I feel like an alien, a stranger in an alien place.
Now the light is fading fast,
Chances slip away, a time will come to pass
When there'll be none,
Then addicted to a perfumed poison,
Betrayed by its aftertaste,
Oh we shall lose the wonder and find nothing in return.
Many are the substitutes but they're powerless on their own.
Beware the fisherman who's casting out his line
Into a dried up river bed,
But don't try to tell him 'cos he won't believe you.
Throw some bread to the ducks instead, it's easier that way.
I feel like an alien, a stranger in an alien place.
The trees and I are shaken by the same wind but whereas
The trees will lose their withered leaves,
I just can't seem to let them loose.
And they can't refresh me those hot winds of the south.
I feel like an alien, a stranger in an alien place.

Genesis Heathaze Comments
The greatest rock music ever written by the greatest band ever - nothing more to say :-)
The chorus, both lyrically as well as musically is so damn strong!
This song kills me every time. I mean, "Don't try to tell him, because he won't believe you. Throw some bread to the ducks instead - it's easier that way.
I feel like an alien, a stranger in a strange land". I mean, the state of hopeless futility this song captures. . . .
Una delle migliori canzoni del dopo Gabriel tra le mie preferite.
I often wonder if Phil hadn’t made it big what direction genesis would have taken
Banks and his worknon 7 stones and this, not to forget Gabriel and obviously Collins!
Love it. It was a song that didn't interest me on first listenings, now it's timeless to me. God....what was I doing in 1979? Just surviving......
Ungrateful bitches. If you only knew when they play in concert is a cross between Smule and Flock of Seagulls keys! It sucko on a bloco of Ice.
One of Mike Rutherford's more shining moments of bass playing ...as if there werent enough already !!
This is a thing of Beauty.
live for the moment. seek not tomorrow.
fantastický....
Wot a great album always really loved it
"We shall lose the wonder and find nothing in return, many are the substitutes but they're powerless on their own." When I look at my 10 month old granddaughter everything is a wonder to her, but how jaded I've become as life has gone on.
Solo per persone che possono frantumarsi il cuore💔 poi possono permettersi di raccogliere i pezzi e rimetterli assieme❤️💐💐💐
It brings me back to 1980, banks you are a genius!
Totally obsessed with this song💫
I need a mime, a camera man and a director of photography. Anyone?
A stranger in an Alien place? Not this song.
This is a simply, brilliant song!
ps: Tony Banks has the rest, presumably?
I understand Mr Collins has most of the money ever created by the hands of Man?
He was short-changed.
My God, this album was /is so Beautiful !
I couldn't agree more. I have been listening to this album since it was released in 1980. I never tire of it. This is amazing music.
So beautiful.
This and The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway my 2 favourites xxxx
What do you need to be on to invent stuff like this?
Either way, I want some of it.
"Progressive" Rock is an unfortunate misnomer given that these songs will be the Classical Music of future generations.
God knows, One of the most beautiful songs from Duke!
That chorus!!
Phil, la sue voce
Banks is the best song writer in the band...This is genius!
Perfection
ascolto questo brano con la stessa nostalgia di quegli anni quando tutto sembrava facile, leggero per farmi poi sentire un alieno in un paese straniero.....I feel like an alien, a stranger in an alien place"
This song touches deep, deep into your soul on an emotional level....
Banks is a genius
The fact that Tony Banks hasn't been knighted for his musical achievments is just insanity. What a genius. Sooner or later people will discover the amazingness of this album. Definitely one of Genesis finest works. Pop meets progg in a rare and magical constellation that IMO beats many of the Gabriel albums. Dukes Travels, Man Of Our Times, Duchess, Heathaze, Cul-De-Sac... Duke has so many marvellous tracks!
Genesis at their very best - proves how music has declined into farce over the past 25 years!
throw some bread to the ducks is a metaphor for doctrine.
Great song; slaughtered by this atrocity of a remix. What happened to all the dynamics?? Listen to the original https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8qatJ7JIaY
Another one of Tony and Mike's beautiful songs, augmented by Phil's vocals!
Gyönyörű, lebilincselő, csodálatos zene. GENESIS!
My only wish was for Genesis to perform this live...
"...Throw some bread to the ducks instead; it's easier that way."
That's the beauty of GENESIS.
The sleeper song on the album , a song you may not hear on the radio so you would miss out .
I love it 😍
.
Love this song .
Fantastic emotional song.
Anyone apart from me still listening in 2019!? Great song.
yes on 20 april 2019
Awesome! ! !
October 8th 2019. Mexico
Yes on Nov 21, 2019...absolute perfection!
Strong vocally as I have ever seen, content is so present and powerful. This song touches your soul even if you try to push it away. It makes you feel, don't waste it.
Loves it
I Love this song , reason why I´ve asked many times what "Heathaze" mean ? ...and no one seem to know,
my guess ...Heat and Haze ?
an obscuration of the atmosphere in hot weather, especially a shimmering in the air near the ground that distorts distant views
I remember a schoolfriend Genesis fan a fan for some time seeing the band in concert on the Duke tour in Edinburgh I think 19-
80...I saw them 81,82,83 but wished I had saw them 71,72,73,83 etcc
throw some bread to the duck instead, it's easier that way refers to sharing my poetry on jjcreator.blogspot.com
Hätte man nach AND THEN THERE WERE THREE noch als Weiterentwicklung in die 80er oder Neuanfang deuten können, gerade wegen der immer noch großartigen Melodien und Feelings.Leider waren Sie danach nie wieder meine GENESIS.
Gorgeus!!! 😍 I love this song
This song...the whole album is brilliant.
This song. Sublime
Thank God I was alive in the ‘80’s...
Beautiful song, Tony’s keyboards and Phil’s singing are awesome.
I played this to death when I got it for Xmas one year ( 87 ? ) I still love and cherish it...
This song is about a lost soul in a lost world. We all felt like this at some moment of our life... like an alien in an alien place.
Genesis after listening to them for 40 years still make me cry
Atmosfere irreali per un Collins superlativo.Trovo che questa canzone sia la migliore dei Genesis post Gabriel.La band ha raggiunto una radiosa maturità espressiva dando il meglio di sé in questo capolavoro!
This is the " The lamia" of the post-Gabriel era.....
This could easily fit on Wind and Wuthering, that definite Banks touch is omnipresent on this track
How can anyone say this isn't as good as the PG era of Genesis baffles me. Phil's gravelly vocals nails this song, and the melodies are just beautifully performed.
Fair play, this is CLASS, great song-writing. Along with Duchess, the stand-out piece of work on Duke
Genialissime morceau, plein d'émotion, de tendresse et de désarroi . Impressions & expressions
Ciao eccezzionali
Fantastically good track💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💚
Ciao eccezzionali Italia
Stupefacente 😍
But post-Gabriel Genesis still demands a reassessment. The songwriting team (Rutherford, Banks, and Collins) that would later sell hundreds of millions of albums is still casually derided in rock press. I have heard numerous times from early Genesis fans that the band should have ceased to exist after Gabriel’s departure, and I believed that myself for a number of years. However, my personal reassessment began with a bit of understanding of historical context, and careful listening of the masterful 1980 album Duke. Thirty-five years later, Duke stands out as one of Genesis’s most effective statements, both musically and thematically.
Tony's perfect piano performance on this song definitely set the tone for this beautiful tune written by him. Perfect example of somebody that knows how dulge deep into the emotion with the piano!!!
There's nothing more you can say about Phil as a singer. His singing was so beautiful and mellow in this song that it brings tears to your eyes. This by far one of Genesis 's best songs and it comes from Duke, one of the many classic albums that they put together. Tony's soaringly mellow piano playing on this song was also unforgettable. His piano along with Phil's dynamic vocals made a wonderful duet in this classic Genesis tune. Great song from a great album!!!!
Eccezionale
Phils the man
how the first bass drum beat of a song can change your life? phil collins have that power. god bless him
This song carries a subtle message about a possible messed up world where human beings would remain stunned at the irreversible harm they have caused to mother Earth and the entire humanity. Feeling like an alien in an alien place... And the terrible sensation that we may never come back to the normal world.
Thank you for this wonderful song!
Ciao eccezzionali
I never noticed it before the cut between the two vocal sections where there would have been an instrumental bit on previous albums is actually pretty obvious.
I am Brazilian , I am alien in my country !
As I am in Scotland, I am strange in an alien place !
this is a song much like my life back in school as well as Alone Tonight. singing along to it brought we hope in better days.
Banks' use of harmonic progressions is masterly; there is great harmonic work in songs like this, a particular talent that not too many popular composers of any genre share.
A human being cannot write or perform a song better than this. Undertow on their previous album comes close but this is even more powerful.
What I feel is, Genesis is me to a great extent, who I am, this is as a matter of identity; almost forty years of my life loving their music with all of my heart and soul. I would not be who I am without their refined and heart-touching music.
Arcy dobra cała płyta .
A hundred years from now, how many groups will be remembered? How many songs will stand the test of time? I like to think Genesis will. One of the supergroups in an era of beautiful rock music. One of the greatest amongst greats!
4:09 "And they can't refresh me those hot wings on the side" -- so typical of that establishment, I hope Phil didn't leave a tip.
3:17 - 3:41 Painfully beautiful. The last good Genesis song.
My all time fav of Genesis...
Perfect
The magic of Genesis is called Tony Banks. Without him, Genesis would not be Genesis.
Known as Boney Tanks. A genius but an ultimate shill.
Meraviglia
Ciao canzone indimenticabile
I feel like an alien, a stranger in an alien place.
I feel like an alien, a stranger in an alien place.
I love Phil's voice in this song, he is amazing and beautiful.
He was in his prime, he found his voice on this album!
Lagu yang amat cantik
