Genesis - Entangled Lyrics

When you're asleep they may show you
Aerial views of the ground,
Freudian slumber empty of sound.

Over the rooftops and houses,
Lost as it tries to be seen,
Fields of incentive covered with green.

Mesmerised children are playing,
Meant to be seen but not heard,
"Stop me from dreaming!"
"Don't be absurd!"

"Well if we can help you we will,
You're looking tired and ill.
As I count backwards
Your eyes become heavier still.
Sleep, won't you allow yourself fall?
Nothing can hurt you at all.
With your consent
I can experiment further still."

Madrigal music is playing,
Voices can faintly be heard,
"Please leave this patient undisturbed."

Sentenced to drift far away now,
Nothing is quite what it seems,
Sometimes entangled in your own dreams.

"Well, if we can help you we will,
Soon as you're tired and ill.
With your consent
We can experiment further still.

Well, thanks to our kindness and skill
You'll have no trouble until
You catch your breath
And the nurse will present you the bill!"

Such a beautiful song. I believe Steve Hackett kept the old style Genesis alive. Then there were three was the beginning of the end for me.

    Tony England

And me. I could deal with Peter leaving but when Steve left, Genesis became something else.

    ToxicTurquoise 454

@Tony England Please stop acting like you know the band's history. You don't.

    Tony England

  27. NOEL françois

    Titre magnifique . Emotion intacte

  28. John Spencer

Unfair, all the comparisons to modern pop music. This was music that you had to search for back in the day. Prog is alive and well today. Steven Wilson, Southern Empire, Evership, Spock's Beard, Riverside, Haken, Kino-Frost*-Arena.

  38. Archangel Raphael

IF I had to use the lyrics of one group to help narrate my life, my journey, the quest, the purpose ... from genesis to a revelation to a trick called chasing me tale ... so this is what it sounds like when valleys and hills are alive with the sound of me music

  44. Luciano Longo

    amazing song

  45. ashleypurrs

This song always reminded me of a fairy tale, like walking into a magical book. It just transports me. One of the greatest songs ever.

  46. Laureen Bruno

Fuitution Future Intuition.  is a process that gives us the ability to know something directly without analytic reasoning, bridging the gap between the conscious and nonconscious parts of our mind, and also between instinct and reason. Happing now along the open ROADS

  47. Janet Harris

Our senses stand on the shoulders of these great musical artists

  48. Christopher Pittman

Crafty music, talk about symbolism, when you talk about the central banking system and monetary economics. That's what this is all about and the bondage that comes with it. Poor George

  49. tootstanner

This song along with "Ripples" has the tendencey to bring a tear to my eye with such beauty and emotion

  53. claudio grossi

un album ricco di armonie toccanti che penetrano dentro anche a distanza di 25 anni.........

Paulo Pires ,your brother is that Elf with big hat !
    Ahahahah !
And you know who you are ?
    The age goes by . . .

  57. Gab Pinto

It would have been cool to hear Peter Gabriel sing this But Phil Collins executed it masterfully.

    Ryan Freer

Gab Pinto - Absolutely. I always thought how great it would’ve been to hear Gabriel’s voice in this, Mad Man Moon, and possibly Robbery, Assault & Battery...though I certainly have no complaints. Phil knocked it out of the park.

    Gab Pinto

@Ryan Freer Peter Gabriel era was more about the storytelling. I missed the story telling fairy tail shit. That's the cream of Genesis I believe. But this and wind of the wuthering we're amazing musically.

  58. Uncle Steve

WHAT A GREAT SING ALONG SONG.

  59. bjcollis

    Flawless !!!!!

  68. Luka Meah

I once ruined a party by sneaking this track onto the record player.
People were in tears by the end.
The host threw me out as a result.

  69. BandfromtheBand

Steve Hackett added so much to this song!

  70. russell bertolino

music like that is not being written any longer.the golden age was over long ago.

  71. Lance Foley

A beautiful, pithy song...... I still remember listening to this song sitting on my bed ,in Ibra, Oman, thinking
what have I got myself into? I had just accepted a teaching there, then the most forlorn place you
could have imagined- and I thought, what have i got myself entangled in? Turned out awesome is what
it did- amazing people and great students- damn good pay- I got myself entangled in something awesome-
a providential song for me if there ever was one- thank you , Sultanate of Oman

  76. Grace Newsom

The song is absolutely beautiful musically. No question there.

What I really wanna know, though, is what the heck is up with the words. What are they talking about? It seems like it's about simple dreaming, but then there's all this about experimenting, and patients, and the nurse handing you the bill... I mean, _what?_

    Anybody have any ideas?

  77. MaxB

Mio album preferito, con W.&.W e Seconds Out

  80. Gary H

It has always amazed me that music like this could be created by young men in their mid 20's.

  81. jwp10001

It still blows me away how this band loses its lead singer and front man in Peter Gabriel and then comes out with one its best albums ever with the same Genesis feel but a with fresh sound.. Credit Collins. This song is beautiful and mesmerizing!!!!!

    Tony England

I totally agree other than I think the real credit should go to Steve and Tony.

  88. Ed Edwards

This is a work of genius.

  89. Christopher Robin

    This is Genesis full stop!

  90. ragnhild thingstad

When you look at the old english bands from that time, many still going on today, you find out they all had education in classic music. The most important from that is they learned how all things are put together - note by note instead of a whole chord with full fuzz. But there are exeptions, like Rolling Stones who still try to figure out what Hi-Fi is short for....

  91. tom day

The sweet sound of the 12 string. Not to mention one of the best album covers ever.

  92. Carnus Yves

  93. Martin Cunningham

The only post-Gabriel Genesis song I love.

  94. Richard Batty
