Genesis - Dusk Lyrics
See my hand is moving
Touching all that's real
And once it stroked love's body
Now it claws the past
The colours of the morning
Friends to believe in
Tears soon forgotten
See how the rain drives away, another day
If a leaf has fallen
Does the tree lie broken?
And if we draw some water
Does the well run dry?
The screaming of lovers
Like two angry tigers
They tear at each other
See how for him lifetime's fears disappear
Once Jesus suffered
Heaven could not see him
And now my ship is sinking
The captain stands alone
A pawn on a chessboard
A false move by God will now destroy me
But wait, on the horizon
A new dawn seems to be rising
Never to recall this passerby, born to die

Genesis Dusk Comments
The 12-string opening...simply magnificent.
Trespass is one of my favorite Genesis albums due to its pastoral atmosphere. Twelve-string guitars definitely painted a wonderful landscape which makes me wonder in something wondrous.
Man his singing at 3:17 shivers
Reminds me of The Moody Blues. I think they may have even been influenced by them in the early days.
Peter best singer ever.
E dos confins da única e extraordinária obra discográfica dos Genesis, salta esta preciosidade melódica que só tem par na sua restante obra. Não gosto dos Genesis, eu amo Genesis. Cresci com eles e eles comigo.
Unforgettable nights
Long ago, one of my jobs was at a small suburban train station, opening it up in the early morning and attending to travelers.
I would wake up, quickly get dressed, and step out into the cold, where i would walk along the train tracks to work, all the while the snow gently falling on my hat. Underneath my hat was my delighted head, listening to headphones. This was one of the tracks that during that time of my life filled my ears on a daily basis. Listening to it sends me right back to my stormy youth, which found particular calm and quiet especially on those walks.
Utter beauty, from when he played the flute.
#OdedMusic #OdedFriedGaon #Audioded
I haven't listened to this in forever. It just seems to get more beautiful with time.
Stagnation and Dusk....easily the highlight of Trespass.
Don't forget White Mountain!!
Gave me chills
YOU!! YOU ARE MY ENGLISH HOMEWORK XDD
who's Charlie?
Charlie is the main character from the book "The Perks of Being a Wallflower." This song is mentioned in the book in a mixtape Charlie made.
@Natalie don't know that, thanks
Artistas assim não existem mais...
Magnificent use of a triangle
like me in primary school :)
Thanks Charlie, for being such an excellent drummer (listen to "Moonlight Mile"... it's magical because of Charlie's touch)
When this song was recorded, Phil Collins was not even in the band. But a bit later, Phil Collins would actually even be in the band
Coś pięknego!
From my album. The loved one.All too perfect...in my point of view.Phil, stick in the drums...Let's P.Gabriel sing....
Charlie sent me here ❤️ I'm a wallflower
Trespass...Today is a day to celebrate, the foe has found the fate
One of the best songa made it by Genesis
Is pure
Is beautifull
Is natural..like folk..
For me, and because
Each (morning) day
for the rest of my life
I prayze to God when
I remember that song...
Charlie, u gay?
Fuck off
I feel this
Who the hell is this "Charlie" guy that everyone keeps bringing up?
He's just a fictional character
So estou aqui por causa do charlie e.e (as vantagens de ser invisivel)
😯😌 Charlie brought me here. True.🎶

Who's Charlie?
Beautiful song and amazing atmospheres,
This record improves with the years :)
This is pure peace, pure feelings, pure magic. Thanks genesis to exist!
I thought I had JUST gotten into Genesis. Apparently I've been listening to it for 10 years
Peter's voice at it's very best.
everyone here for charlie ?
Brazillll 2017 ❤
What is this talk about Charlie?
Cameron Pearce Charlie is from the book Perks of a Wallflower and he mentions this song
An early gem by Genesis.
Came for the Perks reference, stayed for the awesomeness of early Genesis. Now I just have to decide between listening to either "MLK" or "The Knife" next
Do The Knife. It's an all-time classic Genesis track.
or stagnation
Thanks Charlie
con affetto,
Charlie
The band play this down as one of the weaker tracks on the album. I think its quite good.
I think this and The Knife are the strongest tracks on the album.
Really? Wow. But this is a masterpiece. It's gorgeous.
Tony...grrrr
I actually love this one and Visions of Angels more than I do The Knife, which was their popular one from this album
You have to listen to the Live '73 version of The Knife, it's so much better, mostly because of Phil's contribution, I would say. Hackett is also great on that one, though Phillips' touch on the original album is quite charming in its own way.
Just started to read perks of being a wallflower and I'm downloading literally every song and am falling in love. I don't regret reading this
+Basically Suicidle I just started reading it too but because of school. It's not the kind of book i would normally read but so far it's way better than every book i ever read in school xD
Basically Suicidle Absolutely same. Btw nice profile pic Philly
Love, Charlie x
Love this song. So...mystical.
Flute break from 2:06 to 3:00 ALONE is enough eargasm to sustain a lifetime...
@watcheroftheskies617 Isn't that something? It rises this song from exceptional to genius status.
Peter's voice is just superb in this.
lol i tried to get rid of the fly just now
Charlie sent me. Back in the day when I was charlies age we called this head music and people like charlie were heads and heavy dudes. je suis charlie!
I understand you
oh yea man I'm with you and you also look like I do I'm still a head man I've actuality got a hobby band called the blues dudes Peace
What do you fell allright now? when you are listening this music.
Charlie brought me here, 1 Year ago. And now again.:)

maby come back after 5 years and feel young again bro? ;)
does anyone know which of the band wrote this?
@Tudval Stone I'd say it was an Anthony Phillips song
The entire band contributed, but it was primarily a Mike/Ant composition
All but Philips was a master.
Tudval Stone exactly
@TheEgg Man Actually, Ant was one of the most enthusiastic members of the band in the early days and the band admitted that they'd never been so close to breaking up when he left. It was Ant who created the doorway through which Steve Hackett walked. Also, guess who was the main source for: 'The musical box' and 'The fountain of Salmacis'? Yep. In his own way, Ant was a master too...
Peter's voice is so beautiful
sublime!
I grew up listening to this and all of Genesis stuff...Never grew tired of this!
I'm too!
So ,for you this is stuff ?Yo're a lucky guy.that's enough,My beloved daughters love this "stuff"...as you say.Today she thank me
@Pantibiblon No, not just stuff: this is COOL stuff and classic Genesis! Magical!!!
in charlies quote, did he think phil collins was bad or something? because he said collins wasnt in the band?
Phil Collins wasn't in Genesis when Trespass was released. John Mayhew drummed on this album.
Right, he first appeared on _Nursery Cryme_ along with new guitarist Steve Hackett, the latter of who replaced founding guitarist Anthony Phillips. "Ant" quit after the release of _Trespass_ because of stage fright.
Excellent!
What's Charlie's mix tape?
tomstickland haha, ik this is super late, but Charlie is a fictional character from the book The Perks Of Being A Wallflower. Charlie made a mixtape (this song was on it) for a Christmas present. I recommend reading the book because it’s a good one 😉. They also made a movie but these songs aren’t in it.
thanks charlie
Thanks Peter Gabriel, thanks Trespass and thanks Charlie
I hate how it takes the media for people to discover great music like this, but I guess I should be happy that you're listening to it at all. Now go listen to Genesis, with Phil Collins :)
Toriiibarger how else do we do it ? turn the radio on? they play ed sheeran on that.
read perks of being a wallflower ;) page 62
(before Phil Collins was even in the band!)
I think that's OK.
The next song in Charlie's Mix tape.
OMG THANK YOU STEPHEN CHBOSKY!!!!
me too :)
I love how the suggestions include Asleep by the Smiths, MLK by U2, and Scarborough Fair by Simon and Garfunkel...YouTube knows...
I thought I was the only person doing this
(before Phil Collins was even in the band!)
I'm calling it Charlie's mixtape :)
*perks, sorry to be a grammer nazi :/
the perkins of being wallflower :)
One of the finest pieces of Genesis. Period.
Y pensé en cuánta gente ha amado esas canciones. Y cuánta gente la ha pasado muy mal por culpa de esas canciones.
And now, MLK - U2 :D
That's because you ARE infinite :)
Changed mine too! I swear at this moment, we are infinite.
I feel infinite!
The book has changed the lives of many people. I feel infinite!
Isn't it amazing how one book can connect so many people?
Best book ever.<3
For you, Patrick.
Love always,
Charlie
really nice track!
shitty copyright stuff.. i can't listen to playlist :/
For those on the Perks playlist, I also recommend Carpet Crawlers by Genesis. It's a similar feel but just incredibly beautiful too :-)
I wonder how many of the Perks' fans actually searched for more songs from Genesis or any other band that is on the book.
Can you imagine not having youtube back then to instantly know what he's talking about. me neither.
(Before Phil Collins was even in the band!)
Before Phil Collins was even in the band
Then don't look at the comments.
exactly ! ;)
OMG the list
can't stop listening to this!!!!
You should be saying thanks to Tony Banks, Peter Gabriel, John Mayhew, Mike Rutherford and Anthony Phillips!!!!
Not this Charlie guy...
Nothing hates u
Haha... I haven't read the book not seen the movie. Everyone was talking about the playlist so I checked it out on wiki and I love it
It's amazing how so many people are making a Perks playlist, just like me. Beautiful.
Love always, Charlie.
the comments are from the book called The Perks of being a Wallflower. As for why this is funny; I have no idea...
Beautiful!
And finally...
Asleep by the Smiths (again!)
