Genesis - Anyway Lyrics
All the pumping's nearly over for my sweet heart
This is the one for me
Time to meet the chef
O boy! the running man is out of death
Feel cold and old, it's getting hard to catch my breath
The rocks, in time, compress
Your blood to oil
Your flesh to coal
Enrich the soil
Not everybody's goal
Anyway, they say she comes on a pale horse
But I'm sure I hear a train
O boy! I don't even feel no pain
I guess I must be driving myself insane
Or heaven plug a hole in the earth - "how wonderful to be so profound
When everything you are is dying underground"
I feel the pull on the rope, let me off at the rainbow
I could have been exploding in space
Different orbits for my bones
Not me, just quietly buried in stones
Keep the deadline open with my maker!
See me stretch; for God's elastic acre
The doorbell rings and it's
"Good morning Rael
So sorry you had to wait
It won't be long, yeh!
She's very rarely late"

Disconnected good in parts
great song
In 34 non stanno troppo bene
All the pumping's nearly over for my sweet heart
This is the one for me
Time to meet the chef
Oh boy, the running man is out of death
Feel cold and old, it's getting hard to catch my breath
It's back to ash
Now, you've had your flash boy
The rocks, in time compress
Your blood to oil
Your flesh to coal
Enrich the soil
Not everybody's goal
Anyway, they say she comes on a pale horse
But I'm sure I hear a train
Oh boy, I don't even feel no pain
I guess I must be driving myself insane
Damn it all
Does earth plug a hole in heaven
Or heaven plug a hole in earth
How wonderful to be so profound
When everything you are is dying underground
I feel the pull on the rope, let me off at the rainbow
I could have been exploding in space
Different orbits for my bones
Not me, just quietly buried in stones
Keep the deadline open with my maker
See me stretch; for God's elastic acre
The doorbell rings and its
"Good morning Rael
So sorry you had to wait
It won't be long, yeah
She's very rarely late"
I'm still in awe whenever I listen to any part of the Lamb, or blown away when I listen to the entire album.
Amazing story, a real story. Incredible lyrics, amazing music.
I don't any weak spot on the entire thing. Any weaknesses are minor, and don't affect the overall greatness of this. Sad that the plans for a movie based on this story never came to pass.
Anyway what a great song.
Great song!
Genesis, "Frustration", 1970, BBC ...the first "Anyway"
Wow! I LOVE this song! One of my all time Genesis faves. And the segue into “Supernatural Anaesthetist”.. it just doesn’t get any better than this!
Damn it all!
I love that line too....wish I could have seen them perform this live...Damn it all !!
FanTastiK !!! Il loooove this TracK
So sad this song ends at 3:18, make it 23’ please...
Quel morceau génial !!! Je ne m'en lasse pas, malgré les années . GENIE à l'état pur
Later they mutated slowly to „ I can’t dance „
This song makes me think of the last game of thrones episode, I was literally humming it the exact time that pale horse showed itself , kinda had a wow wtf phychic moment.
Anyway they say she comes on a pale horse, but I’m sure I hear a train!!!
Tony Banks is key on this song.
Am I the only that hear a lot of metal stuffs in this song...
No. Many metal-bands like old prog, like this from 1974. In fact Meshuggah thanks Earth, Wind and Fire on the sleeve of Destroy Erease Improve. EWF is more fusion/funk, but still :-)
Disco fantastico forse il più bello dei Genesis
Perfect just like any other song with Peter Gabriel era!!!!!!!!
In this Peter is so impressive... Masterpiece...
intemporel… I miss u Genesis…i Feel alone since u r gone… Waiting 4 the new genesis … .
Musical perfection.
Steve Hackett's Guitar solo is fantastic !!!
A perfect example to play somebody who needs a reason to appreciate the genius of Genesis
One of the most progressive albums ever recorded bar none.
Agreed 😉
Got me thru some tough sh*t when 17, this album.
This was written originally in 1970 for a docummentary... (Search "Frustration") A great thing recovering it. In that recording there were pieces that later became, for example The Fountain of Salmacis...
Meglio di così non si può suonare
Why does nobody make masterpieces like this now a days? Musically speaking we live in a time of desolation!
Amazing what they accomplish in this song in a little over 3 minutes
!!!!!!!! Wonderful !!!!!!!!!!
*_1:56_*
turbohackett!
01:26-01:51..the genius of tony banks
La perfezione
Anche questo piccolo meraviglioso tassello della mia vita, mi fa essere quello che sono ..Grazie Genesis I love you all!!
So in love with this record. I just wish the synth were louder in the mix!
bellissima ..che ricordi................
capolavoro ! la piu bella dell'album
pezzo stupendo come magnifico tutto l'intero album!!!
Este álbum es la belleza suprema y éste tema una de sus mejores joyas, aunque sería harto difícil decantarse por cuál sería el mejor, ya que todos ellos son insuperables. Gracias amigo por subirlo y eternas gracias a Genesis por crearlo.
Argueably the greatest Genesis track
'how wonderful to be so profound,
when everything you are is dying underground.'
Superb line...
How did they go from this to I Can't Dance???
@Frank Rizzo lol!!!
Simply put, it was a 2 phase transition. First PG left and if that wasn't bad enough, SH then left. This, unfortunately was the last "real" Genesis album.
Sadly it happens to alot of bands..... Journey, Styx, The Moody Blues etc.., They become too mainstream and poppy.. The 1980s werent kind to them.
Wrong Comparison, IMHO. 1974: Anyway. 1991: Dreaming While You Sleep. I Can't Dance Seems More Similar to I Know What I Like, Although Illegal Alien Might Be More Definitive. Or Perhaps, Harrold The Barrel? You Can't Compare Apples with Oranges. Perhaps You Should Give Another Listen to the Lyrics of Afterglow.
Until Duke, it was still progressive, but after... ouch!
This album will always be a part of me.I love it that much....
1:26
Apocalypse and revelation.
golden gloves or globes?...gloves does sound scarier :)
Quintessential Genesis
I could have been exploded into space, different orbit for my bones
Don't know what it is about this song, but somehow I think this is one of the best Genesis songs of them all, and that's saying a lot!!
"Does Earth plug a hole in Heaven, or Heaven plug a hole in Earth? How wonderful to be so profound, when everything you are is dying underground." The final question before expiration. As the music then attests
CAPOLAVORO ❣
How wonderful to be so profound...
When everything you are......
is dying underground....
Exellent :-)
Genesis fused the drama, delicacy and emotion of classical music with the rawness, ferocity and energy of Heavy Rock
tronlady1 totalmente de acuerdo
Peter Gabriel oh my god fantastic
This music is rare unique!
Ivanyi Attila also rare unique for the colony of slippermen
Genesis .... tra il bello della storia umana, ci sono loro
A top three track from this album for me alongside The Lamia and It.
it is sensacional!
I performed this song a'capella a few years ago -- without the wonderful instruments playing. I can attest it is possible to get completely lost in the lyrics! Some say it is about death. I have loved this well-written and well-composed song since it first appeared on LAMB LIES DOWN, an amazing album.
che genio sto pianista
giorgio broletti ...E CHE STRONZETTO ARROGANTE E PRESUNTUOSO SEI TU CARO GIORGIO....UN SALUTO A RICK E KEITH....STANNO ANCORA PULENDO LE TASTIERE DI TONY,VERO???!!!....SALUDOS MARICONCITO...
@Marco Monosilio
Eh?
A great song in all it's glory...lightning in a bottle
I like the lyrics of Frustration better.
excellent
40 some odd years later and I still remember every word and all those goosebumps.....
"See me stretch; God's elastic acre" -- maybe a reference to the curvature of time and space? Whoa ...
#Suckas Hahaha...
Beautiful work where all members of Genesis must be present to produce this work. Sorry, no faves here. They were ALL genius.
DAMN IT ALL
Wooow !!! "Anyway" le meilleur morceau de tous les albums de Genesis !
One of my all time favourites
todo este disco es tremendamente bueno
...here comes the supernatural anesthetist!
I feel strange listening on youtube and not the supernatural anesthestist coming up
No worries! Keep, my deadline open with my maker!
Superb guitar work on this song, and a true classic of an album, this Tommy and the Wall by Floyd my top 3 double albums. Although many will disagree, it's great having these great albums available for the new prog fans to see who kicked it off, The Who are different, just a class rock band, Legends
The Who are great. Checkout S.F.. Sorrow, by the Pretty Things.
gods elastic acre
no lamb on Spotify!!? wtf is up with that??! this record is too great to be forgotten
Next to no Gabriel on Spotify.
Chris Kusnell check again
now its here
It's there now
Marcial Silva “Forgotten”? The single greatest Prog Rock album ever made? I think not!!
"Time to meet the chef"
Have you seen Chef?
I love that line.
Questa è MUSICA ci sono molte band prog in italia ma aimè non se li Caga nessuno
I love this song!
One of the best from the album for me
frustration
one of the best
Un autre Chef D Oeuvre
Album top++ dans la discographie des 70', mélodies qui donnent la chair de poule!
Too young for the original tour. Thank you Musical Box for making a dream come true.

0.55-0.58 in the background the keyboards sounds just like a Nokia ringtone 30 yrs beforehand, you hear it clearly on the CD as opposed to YT though.
stupenda canzone una delle migliori dei genesis la voce di peter qui e' al top
Tony Banks at its best
extremadrummer Tony Banks: So necessary
Firth of Fifth
He is real good ... great album
Steve Hackett at his best. Killer solo.

**L'ALBUM ''L'AGNELLO GIACE A BROADWAY'' E' UN CAPOLAVORO ASSOLUTO DELLA ''MUSICA-PROGRESSIVE'' E DELLA MUSICA IN ASSOLUTO...!!! ;;; LEGGENDARI E MITICI ''GENESIS''(IN SPECIALISSIMO MODO DELL'ERA-''PETER GABRIEL'') GRANDISSIMI E VERI ARTISTI A TUTTO TONDO..!!! "Different orbits for my bones"
— pure genius!
I used to think it said "armies" and "songs" in that line. Seriously though, that is a standount line among standout lines.
Google +
life, death, sex and salvation - this song runs the gamut for those who can follow the allusions.
