This guy had a great career and a wasnt really recognized for it in my opinion. Just don't hear his songs on the radio or Sirius enough. Now that he has passed we may here some for a few weeks.

I met Gene Watson in person WOW what an entertainer he is. I have been to several concerts not one half as good as Gene Watson's not George Strait not Tim Mc Graw not Vince Gill not even my favorite Mark Chesnutt. He is awesome and he came out and signed autographs for everyone. He belongs in country music hall of fame!!! Hope to get to see him again

Tammy Wynette recorded this song on one of her last projects "Next to You" and while it was good, Gene's version overwhelms hers by hundreds of miles! Nothing against Tammy, who I love, but her voice changed and got thinner because she smoked so much so her later projects reflected that change. Gene's voice hasn't changed a bit! He can knock anything out of the ball park! Let's get this man in the Hall of Fame!

What makes me sad are those great singers who have never been discovered by the major record producers. If y'all get a chance listen to Benny Barnes on YouTube. Benny has gone to meet Jesus but he was a good old Beaumont😙😃Texas boy who sold automobiles and he owned a nightclub there in Beaumont. I cannot ever remember a fight breaking out at Benny's Club. Everybody kneweach other and made strangers feel welcome. In fact, a lot of people met their better halves at Benny's. Benny doesn't have a lot of music on YouTube but what is there I think you will like. Thanks for reading this and I wish all of you well.😘Oh by the way, Mark Chestnutt is also from Beaumont...and Tracey Byrd is from Vidor just a few miles east of Beaumont. And guess what ...Clay Walker is also from that area and he and his band played for my daughter's 14th birthday at a local skating rink on Hwy 12 before he became famous .Well I'm going to go listen to Benny for a while! Gene has been my favorite since I first heard his voice in the 70's and remains my favorite to this day.  I positively LOVE his songs and never get tired of listening to him sing.  I've had the privilege of seeing him in concert 18 times through the years and will continue to do so every chance I get.  He is the best voice in country music and loves and appreciates his fans.

Janet54ful, Gene Watson has always been one of my favorites. My Mount Rushmore of traditional singers is Gene, Conway, Merle Haggard, and Charley Pride. That being said, if you look at his sales, he only had 1 huge hit. I think it was due more to the lack of marketing than lack of talent. He is one of the best vocalist ever. I live in Arizona which is just two states away from Gene yet he never comes to Arizona. We have a lot of casinos here. Charley Pride will be here in February. Gene needs to expand his route and come further west.
