Gayle, Crystal - Wayward Wind Lyrics
In a lonely shack by a railroad track
He spent his younger days
But I guess the sound of the outward bound
Made him a slave to his wand'ring ways
A restless wind that yearns to wander
And he was born the next of kin
The next of kin to the wayward wind
Oh I met him there in a border town
We vowed we'd never part
Tho' he tried his best to settle down
Now I'm alone with a broken heart
Though the wayward wind is a restless wind
And he was born the next of kin
The next of kin to the wayward wind
The next of kin to the wayward wind

Gayle, Crystal Wayward Wind Comments
Very talented artist but Gogi Grant's version is hard to beat, it was at the top of the charts for 6 weeks!!!!!!!
Her voice, interpretation, and elocution is magnificent. Perhaps the arrangement is too fast and too pumping for the song.
Several recordings are good including this on. Gogi Grant and Gale Storm
Gigi grant's version' song is the best version.
Deborah Kaplan I heard this song when I wad about 15 in the early fifties know I'am 78 and Gogi Grant is the song.
Sorry. Frankie Laine's is the best!
I just miss my grandmother so much, she had this on tape long before CDs were born, and I sat in my bedroom listening to it over and over!
Fell in love with her voice from day 1. Shes the best of country music.
+BF STENDER You've summed it up, BFS! Thanks for visiting.
Best Regards,
David
Been listening to several versions of this great song, Crystal's is among my favorites. So many of my favorite artists have done this with their own trademark voices - Sam Cooke, Eddy Arnold, Patsy Cline, Tex Ritter, just to name a few. I really like Gene Vincent's version from 1958 as well. Thank you for posting!
You're very welcome, Dana! Labor of love--long time fan here. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

I do love this lady's singing...but on this song I perfer Patsy Clines version
Thanks for visiting and commenting, Sam. Hard to top Patsy, but I'm glad you liked this, also. Fun to compare renditions.
Best Regards,
David
Thanks for visiting, and commenting! I too think she has a remarkable voice. I do remember Gogi Grant's version from the charts in the 1950's, which seemed to set the standard then.
Not the best interpretation because of the anachronism. But, maybe the version I prefer to listen to from the many interpreters of this classic.
What anachronism?
