I remember how I came across this song. I was 15 years old, and I came home from school and found a CD of Marvin's songs on it. My mom bought it, because she knew I was a fan. Once I heard this song, I was taken aback and it was very moving. Then, I let it play on repeat (something that I'm doing 19 years later) and I feel the same way. This man was a genius and this is a timeless gem of a song.

Man...just stumbled across this one. The first 40 seconds gives me this emotion that i can't explain. it's like joy and sadness all at once. Many of Marvins songs bring me close to tears and his voice has always had that effect on me. Soo beautiful...so, so, beautiful. I was a young teenager when he died, so I remember it well. I remember how it affected my dad, who died just 2 years after Marvin...he was a HUGE Marvin fan, just as I became one. Mr. Gaye was the epitome of musical genius, overflowing love, sexuality, sensuality, & calamity, all rolled up into one package.

I was born a month after that tragedy.

I can't believe I just discovered this song by him and I grew up with Marvin

Marvin was a tortured soul and his melancholy was often evident in his music, as in " Just Like", but he was a musical genius too.
I bought the first record he made, way back in 1961, I think it was....and bought every album he made after that. Read all the biographies about his life.
One thing I know for sure is that Marvin was a gift.....a gift to those of us who loved his music, and a gift to the world.
There will never be another balladteer like him, nor should there be......he was one of a kind!!!

You are correct this was recorded in 1978 and released in 1985 on the 'Romantically Yours' album on CBS.

None of this sounds like something he would do in the mid to late 60s. It has those innovative sounds of the early 80s....IMO.
