I am proud to be a part of the last generation to have known a world before all of this. I thank God for my mother and the gift of music she gave me.

Honestly think Marvin was waiting on Tammi to get over David Ruffin. When she passed, I believe his dreams were dashed, thus leading to his downward spiral. Never associated "Distant Lover" with Tammi, but I can see him singing about her.

As a Senior in High School when this was popular this brings memories of someone I knew back then. Sadly things didn't work out. Hope she's happy wherever she is now!!  Update! She passed away from lung cancer June 8, 2018.

I think Marvin Gaye loved this woman. Really. She died young, sadly--and I think that led to Marvin's problems. What a shame. He loved her. If she were still alive, I think Marvin would still be alive, too.

On this day in 1968 {February 24th} Dick Clark conducted a telephone interview with Marvin Gaye on his ABC-TV Saturday-afternoon program, 'American Bandstand'...
At the time Mr. Gaye had two Top 10 records on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart...
"You", a solo effort, was at #7, and that was also it's peak position on the chart...
And at #10 was "If I Could Build My Whole World Around You", a duet with Tammi Terrell, three weeks earlier it had had peaked at #2 {for 2 weeks}, and the two weeks it was at #2 the #1 record for both those weeks was "Chain of Fools" by Aretha Franklin...
Sadly, both passed away at a young age; Mr. Gaye on April 1st, 1984 at age 44 and Ms. Terrell died on March 16th, 1970 at 24...
May they both R.I.P.

I miss Marvin and his music so much. He's my favorite musician of all time. Always get very sad when I think about the way his life came to an end. Tammi's death had a huge effect on him. R.I.P to the both of them

Marvin was never the same, after Tammi passed away. Also, I think Marvin would have given Tammi the whole world, (if he would have had the wherewithal to do so). He was very fond of her.
