I  was all strung out on heroin when this song came out by Sam Cook. I am white but I was always attracted to black gospel, ever since I was a child, and was  influenced by such gospel groups  as the ABC Trumpeteers , the Soul Stirrers, etc. I would sing this song silently  because I so much identified with it. Clean and sober 28  years. Thank You, God

It's a song about civil rights and as Adam Lambert has said before performing this song we are in a civil rights movement right now. Gays, lesbians, and transgenders get told all the time that they are not wanted around certain places and people treat them differently. They may not have different colored skin but because they are different then what society thinks they are denied certain rights. All men are created equal and that's the way it should be.
