Gary Numan - Telekon Lyrics

Where is my outline I start to fade
No concentration means 'fail' these days

I leave the table saying 'I am real'
I feel the pressure like your eyes on me
Don't mention that name and books on love
I can't be sure, I can't be sure

You end on reel one
You end on reel one

You quote from 'anxious' and things we do
I need protection from the likes of you

Do you begin to see that I don't know
I live on memories that are hard to find
Send me a card and write 'I think of you'
I'll say you lied, I'll say you're lying

You are, you are

Tell me a secret I'm sure to fall
My dog runs A.W.O.L. I blame you all

We're in formation saying 'safe, safe, safe'
Turn up my collar and mix with dark
The speaker turns on me spot her eyes
It's hard to breathe, it's hard to breathe

You end on reel one
You end on reel one

You are, you are

I met my girlfriend in 1979 and we saw Gary Newman a Hammersmith 1980 and again in 1981 and me and her are still going strong.

One Christmas my brother and I ( we were still kids. I was only about 12 ) had some money left over from the money our mother had given us to buy Christmas pressies so we decided to go and buy one album each as a pressie from ourselves to our selves. We had to choose someone we had never heard of before. I chose this album and what a great piece of luck that was. Became one of our most play albums in the early 80's.

    And what if God's dead
We must have done something wrong
    This dark facade ends
    We're independent from someone

    This wreckage I call me
Would like to frame your voice
    This wreckage I call me
Would like to meet you, meet you
    Soon

    We write suggestions
    Suggesting fading to silence
    And that must please you
    My mirror's tarnished with 'no-help'

    This wreckage I call me
Would like to frame your voice
    This wreckage I call me
Would like to meet you, meet you
    Soon

    Turn out these eyes
    Wipe off my face
    Erase me

    Replay 'The end'
    It's all just show
    Erase you

I need to I need to I need to

    This wreckage I call me
Would like to frame your voice
    This wreckage I call me
Would like to leave you, leave you
    Leave you, leave you soon

This Wreckage stalled in the UK, peaking at #20 in December 1980. Gary should have released "Remind Me to Smile".

Had this on cadette back in the 80s. Bought it on vinyl recently. Class album. By far his best I think. I bought replicas and the pleasure principal also on vinyl. But telekon is the best.

  17. S.... S....

Most underrated artist of the 80,s

  18. S.... ....

Gary Newman... unusual name for a cyborg don't you think humans....his sound should of been in blade runner.

Gary Numan is an escapee from The Borg Collective

  22. s.... s....

THIS TUNE IS A KILLER BUT WHAT HAPPENS TOWARDS THE VERY END IS MAGNIFICENT FRAME 5:12 the song would have departed into rich territory if he had expounded on the change

  23. s.... b....

When i first heard this album at age 14 it completely blew my mind . It changed everything that i thought i knew about music . I feel so lucky to be at the age where i grew up listening to the most awesome music ever made .I have exposed my own children to the music i grew up with and they absolutely love it and agree with me that music like this will never be will be able to be replicated ever again .

  24. J.... M....

It's good to get a dose of "This Wreckage" again. I must've listened to this song a thousand times when Telekon 1st came out. And to think that Gary played guitars originally with the Tubeway Army before switching over to synth's and keys. Another genius hits the airwaves with his "Ahead of his Time" music.

    J.... M....

    Same here xx

  25. J.... B....

I get the chills just from the opening....

  26. P.... C....

Gaz rocks pity he's a Bowie fan just takes a shine off perfection

  27. T.... M....

Simply a legend. Without him, we wouldn't have Nine Inch Nails.

    T.... M....

And he is still performing and making music to this very day.

  28. B.... R....

Gary Numan is like the science fiction type of music maker.

  29. a.... h....

And what if Gods dead?? CLASSIC!

  31. c.... r....

    Could someone help me out?
When is this album from? (I have my album collection put away but thinking of taking them down from the attic)

    c.... r....

    I believe it's September 1980.

  32. D.... W....

When push comes to shove...and I had to choose my all time favourite artist I'd have Gary Numan and Roger Waters from Floyd fight for my honour....I adore and am built from both men.I fucking LOVE me Gary

  33. T.... H....

A holes, "cars" is not your enemy, just because it went mainstream it aint a demon....gary just gave u a great true. If this song" wreakage had gone mainstream, you facetowels would be saying f wreakage.

    T.... H....

Listen c*ck s&cker, Cars is one of Gary's worst songs. This is much better and the real Numan fans like the abstract not the mainstream.

  38. G.... P....

    I. Love. Gary. Numans. Music

  39. R.... N....

Bowie was a genius... his music lives on forever... however, Numan really did something visually & musically unique in that era... like Bowie's Ziggy Stardust, Beatles' Srgt. Pepper

    R.... N....

I'll never understand how people cream their pants over people like David Bowie and The Beatles. The music is simple. The voices are terrible. I can only chalk it up to the fact that those must have been the songs playing while good times were being had on booze, weed and LSD, so, "Pavlov's Dogs" goes into effect.

    R.... N....

Southern Fun I’m not too into Bowie but I’ve gotten pretty into the Beatles over the last year and a bit. I love the Beatles and I’ve never been high in my life. I don’t worship them like some others do. For example I really don’t like The Beatles Magical Mystery Tour. Apart from I Am The Walrus And Strawberry Fields I consider that album pretty mediocre/bad to my ear. SGT Peppers also is far from their best work in my opinion. It was transformative at the time and obviously important for music as a whole but it’s also not as great as some claim. The albums that I love are mostly Rubber Soul, Revolver, White Album and Abbey Road.

  40. R.... N....

Just wish he didn't wear that particular hairpiece in the past many years... He blew everyone away in '79-80... even Bowie. This is why Bowie hated him. Numan synthesized Kraftwerk & Bo's Thin white Duke spectacularly. However, it's Numan's music which charted in '79, not anything from Low, Heroes, or Lodger... sorry Bowie fans. Bowie got Numan back with Let's Dance, big-time

    R.... N....

"Let's Dance?" Ha! That album was total commercial crap! Bowie himself hated it! It was a "money grab" so to speak, for radio play.

    R.... N....

    and bowie

    R.... N....

your talking bollocks now, Bowie was on another level, numan was good but just for one day Bowie was for ever and ever.

    R.... N....

Mitch Morris yup, I like both Numan and Kraftwerk

    R.... N....

The way I see it, they're different types of musicians. Bowie was an improviser who got a team together and they bounced ideas off of one another. Numan seems to be a bit more independent and self-reliant than that, but both are still musicians, and great ones.

  41. f.... t....

SCREW CARS!!!! this album has ALL of gary numan's best tracks!

    f.... t....

Totally agree... One of Numan's best

    f.... t....

when i had a radio program in high school, a buddy loaned me pleasure principle & telekon. i was already familiar with overplayed cars and was never really impressed with it and even less all of the rest of the junk on that album, but telekon just has so many great melancholy classics like the aircrash bureau, please push no more, i dream of wires, remember i was vapour & i am an agent that STILL sound distinctive to this very day and that blew me away and made me go out & buy my own copy. i consider telekon to be equal to or even better than ANYTHING kraftwerk ever did as far as classical synth pop goes.

all 5 of those tracks are better than the lightweight pop that is cars. too bad the radio never gave his best stuff any play, but i did what i could with my tube powered 1,500 watts of monaural FM. LOL i never owned a copy of the pleasure principle, BUT, i bought 2 copies of the flying lizards' first album PLUS the white covered import PLUS the japanese CD.

you've NEVER heard telekon until you've heard it on vinyl! it looses a
lot of it's warmth & sadness digitized and maybe more than any other
album is a showcase for why analogue sounds better & digital can sound sterile. the remaster is even more detailed sounding than my CD, but even less organic. no matter how much better my digital systems have been than my cobbled high school stereo, telekon still sounded better on my 5 1/4" tweeterless open backed portable stereo speakers, re-purposed for its amplifier only portable record player & hot rodded to a moving magnet cartridge with a "radio shack" phono pre-amped low end garrard turntable that used to have a lowly piezo pickup.

    f.... t....

    Aircrash Bereua, Vapour etc AGREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    f.... t....

    well. some of them.

    f.... t....

Though "Metal" was a great song! It was from the same album as "Cars" but is probably the better of the two songs.

  42. R.... N....

Great Numan track... the key shifts & synth flourishes are exquisite. His songwriting gets lost in his public persona in those years... great stuff

  43. J.... H....

Great album ... Great unique artist !! Thanks for posting :)

  44. o.... ....

    Back to back good albums...

  45. T.... g....

    me? what is me?

  46. H.... ....

    Better music than Lady Gaga

    H.... ....

She used to pretty Good with fashion, breaking boundaries and never wearing the same thing twice. That's quite impressive.

Didn't care for her music but I respect her for that

    H.... ....

Gaga didn't try to mimic Numan, not like Laurie Anderson.

    H.... ....

    Ur gay for saying that.

    H.... ....

@Lord Skeptic hey i looked at your channel.. the earth is definently flat.
    Cheers from Cali

I saw Gary Numan perform this live in the Palladium in New York in 1980. Very memorable.

    a.... ....

audioman628 my buddy tim and me went to the same show in Milwaukee at the old Auditorium...
We were the only two losers in that miserable high school who bought pleasure principle and Telekon...
After the show, we were so "gary newmanned out"
That for two entire school days, Timmy & me walked around with no expression,
Brought shit to school like a plastic triangle, and sat there and stared at it in the cafeteria during lunch...

To this DAY l give no fucks about all the shit we took
    As Sophomores that year...
Even made the preppy and jock as fuck yearbook in 81, they had took a picture of us staring at our triangular orb...
    "Remember THESE TWO?"
    It said on page 60...
"We really hope it's just a phase guys...."
It was. It lasted from the 81 stuck up preppy overkill
    Yearbook...
Right up to my 55 th birthday this year... No fucks given...

Well... Didnt get laid, which was why any high school kid put energy in2 anything in the hazy acid test 70s & 80s... That, scorin' dope, and getting a muscle car...
Mine was a Badass 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner,
440 engine, pistol grip 4 speed Hurst shifter, an N96 option pushbutton Air-Grabber hood... U flipped that bad hoodscoop open, and cracked that deep breathing 8 pipe symhony...
    U were a Real King
    In those moments..
But in life, all fame, is fleeting...
    Ciao.
Got laid @ 19 at an Exel lnn just outta town...
1982, and l did indeed "Excel," at going "lnn"
    (and out).
Yeh... That was bad and so was l...
I aint as good as i once was
But lm as good once, as l ever was!!
    Im outty...c ya....

    a.... ....

I was at that excellent show too!

    a.... ....

Saw him at The Fabulous Forum...it was a trip, some members of DEVO were on the floor and many many sleek, black suited Telekon warriors ready to battle Jon the God!

    a.... ....

@John John Gary has expressed an admiration for "goth" for decades. I recall seeing a programme (on ITV or Channel 4, if memory serves me correctly) in which he chose his favourite videos. It must have been either the close of the '80s or the start of the '90s. Amongst his picks were The Sisters of the Mercy, The Mission and, I think, The Nephilim.

    a.... ....

Sam V Have to disagree there some of the ive versions of the songs from the Telekom album and that from his 3 previous ones sounded awesome live on the Teltour, just listen to Living ornaments 80, and watch the 3 live available videos here on YouTube, including this one minus the intro !

  48. B.... ....
