Gary Numan - Slowcar To China Lyrics
She'll take a slowcar to China
She'll pay the rent for the use of you
She'll take a slowcar to China
She'll pay the rent for the use of you tonight.
You almost get used to such things you know.
The mechanics on the phone again, we break down.
The others you'd remember if I could spare some time.
In love with this elegant bitch
And here am I just a shy young fool
In love with this elegant bitch
She only sparkles at times for you tonight.
She forgets that we know,
I suppose the things I overheard were quite by chance
The only story I ever knew or cared for
Best left unheard I suppose, don't you?
You look for somewhere to start to look
We'll take a slowcar to China
Everything that you need is here
We'll take a slowcar to China
Everything that you need is here tonight.
I forgot not to call,
and now we're out of love.
She'll take a slowcar to China
A little green worm inside my head
She'll take a slowcar to China
A little green worm inside my head tonight.
There's nothing much to keep us alive, but 'Dance'.
All that she can say is goodbye. All things change I suppose
We'll sing without voice, without heart and leave no address
I well never ever see you again. I know.
Don't take a slowcar to China
She needed nothing and no one so
Don't take a slowcar to China
She needed nothing and no one here tonight.
You will pay like before.
Always one step behind.
You will pay Mr Jones.
Always one step away.
There's no one here to leave you behind but me.

Gary Numan Slowcar To China Comments
The thing I like about Gary Numan apart from his amazing talent musically,Is the fact that he is an entirely self made man and supports his family 100% financially .I don't like his wife though, the whole relationship thing she manipulated.Gary was never good with women and was always a fragile personality.
Still if his happy with her that's all that matters.
She forgets who we are
Exceptional listening with good quality headphones :-)
My favorite album of Gary’s, ‘Slow Car to China’ and ‘Cry the Clock Said, it’s headphone heaven
Sounds like a detective
Masterpiece !
...yes - the best one.
2:09 just beautiful
An awesome album from an awesome artist....and a monumental bonus that Mick Karn is a guest musician with his beautiful fretless bass playing 🤩
I'm glad to see that other people like this album as much as I do. Its obvious Gary was going through a tough time when he wrote this. I think anyone who has been toyed with emotionally in a relationship could relate to what he was going through. Gary definitely evolved his own sound from album to album. I personally like the Yamaha CP-30 Electric Piano that was slightly out of tune for the Chorus effect. The CP-30 has an extremely unique almost haunting sound to it and Gary used it starting with Telekon all the way up to the Fury.
And if you've never been to China well the slow boat leaves at one...
His earlier material was better.
Dance is his best album and you can't convince me otherwise
...yes - the best one.............
Couldn't agree more. It's just the right blend of moody works with more upbeat tunes reminiscent of his earlier works.
It's good but "Tubeway Army" is his (their) best. I checked!
i still don't understand how he got to this sound on the back of his previous records.. it's like it's from a completely different person, and the Dick Track outfit is a bit weird.
I think I, Assassin is his best, but I'd never say you're wrong for feeling that way about Dance. Imagine how boring life would be if we all agreed.
The roland cr-78 never tires ...lol
Replicant Lullabies. My favourite Numan album.
Underrated. I played this to death when it was first released. Tres funky ambiance with his perfect robot voice.
Gary numan is so inspiring
This album is great for listening to while writing.
On the cover Gary looks like a Black Woman dressed as a White Man.
Oh shit ,never noticed that.....you're kinda right....
Was Mick Karn playing bass on this,,very Japan-ish
+colin b
Yes, he was. He played a few tracks on this record. "Boys Like Me" even features Rob Dean.

Numan was besotted with Japan at this stage.
@Levi Tate I suspect that you may be correct there. In my opinion japan were a great band. Dance and gentlemen take Polaroids were the first I had, the same summer.
Yes on some he also played on the fun b side bridge what bridge
I skipped school to buy this album when it came out. This album is great!!
Nah...I prefer "Replicas", "Telekon", "Pleasure Principle".
