Gary Numan - She's Got Claws Lyrics

You are distraction
Like pictures on the wall
I don't like eyes
You are attraction
It gets to be routine
You're up I'm down

She's got claws
But the factory knows
We're dreams in cold storage
We could dance the night away

You say you love me
Maybe you do
A patience I can't steal
I don't believe you
You said 'straight'
It's like giving up hope

Here on the ground
On the floor
Screaming nothing at all
Here on the ground
Like some whore
Looking down on you all
Too much advice. I'm not sure.

Laughing hyenas
With pens for charms
You'll just suck in the boys
We have to leave soon
Shut the door
This house is far too cold

She's got claws
But the factory knows
We're dreams in cold storage
We could dance the night away

Gary Numan She's Got Claws Comments
  1. M.... W....

Curtailed the brilliant ending. Still good though.

  2. E.... ....

Who voted thumbs down on this? Gary is a legend and he is finally getting the recognition he deserves!

    E.... ....

So what? He's already had recognition for his early work that doesn't disqualify him from criticism. For the record I like Dance but She's Got Claws is awful.

    E.... ....

@Jeremy Horne Well, I don't know if you are a loyal fan or not. Anyone that knows the full story of Gary's career is aware that people including yourself aparently and the music press , downright hated everything after Telekon. Gary's career was a rollercoaster, and he had lost confidence in himself. You may not like his music during that in between period (1982 -1994) but there are people who do. Not everything is masterpiece but to say it all sucks isn't fair. You have a right to your own opinion, but so where do you come off making comments on YouTube about it where fans just try be positive? If you don't like it, don't listen to it. Find something else to watch because that just makes you look like a hater.

Clever use of the drum machine on this track.

    A.... J....

Agreed! Gary used real drums and a drum machine mixed together. One cool thing Gary did back then was run the drum machine through an phaser effect. You can really hear it really well on the intro of White Boys and Heroes. So even though it was a preset pattern, it still sounded unique. Gary has always had his own sound, and I think that really sets him apart. Especially his voice, no one could ever sing like him. I'm glad he's finally getting the credit he deserves. Can't wait for his new album. Sign up to his making music campaign, its definitely worth it! https://garynumanmm.tmstor.es/

i think im one of his only fans who really likes the dance album it's definitely in my top 5, i always come back to it. something about it just enchanting to me.

Dance is my top Numan album, always has been, it was a massive departure from his early stuff, I loved the image as well and tracks like Stories, Boys Like Me, Moral and especially Cry The Clock Said are awesome

    k.... x....

@Nigel James i totally agree. its nice to see someone who actually likes it.

    k.... x....

Probably more than you think but it's an absolutely class album, have been a Numan Fan from the early 80's and in my opinion he has never bettered this

You are definitely not alone. Dance was an album that I never expected to like and it wasn't until I really listened to the lyrics that I had a whole new appreciation for it. After awhile I realized what the vibe was and fell in love with the instrumentation as well. One aspect that really makes it stand out to me is his use of the Yamaha CP-30 Electric Piano. It is truly unique and can be heard on the entire album. You can hear it on Telekon and I Assassin as well.

  5. D.... F....

Was very much into Gary Numan from the first Tubeway Army album until this track and the Dance album came out and killed it for me. Awful

  6. l.... r....

Marvellous song! Big love from Russia!

  7. S.... ....

The funny thing is, in my opinion, that Rob Dean and Roger Taylor, both quite good musicians, also play on this album. Nobody mentions them yet. Makes clear what outstanding musician Mick Karn was. And still is.

  8. c.... c....

The dance album was kind of sucky despite the mick karn vibe. And that suit from the 40s is questionable.

  9. S.... ....

Hey Gary Numan are these in HD?

  10. n.... k....

    They’re coming thick and fast...

  11. T.... B....

This looks better than I expected, I am curious what processing was done to the original digitized video for this version.

  12. S.... ....

    Go Go Gary Numan

  13. j.... i....

Watch Japan's, "Gentlemen Take Polaroids" video...

    j.... i....

Mick Karn plays bass on this I think.

  14. j.... i....

Gary Numan + Japan = New Wave Jazz 🎷

  15. E.... ....

I love the Dance album so much. It's probably the album that I go back to the most often, along with Telekon and Pleasure Principal. It's nice to finally get to see the videos from this era - the Boston area video music channel didn't ever play them. 😕

    E.... ....

Alot of people including critics really did not have nice things to say about Dance when it came out. Dance is my favorite for a couple reasons. Instrumentation and subject matter. Slow Car to China and Cry the Clock said, really stick out to me. After having a relationship end baldly, the lyrics were exactly what was going on in my head at the time. Coupled with the Yamaha Cp30 electric piano which was slightly out of tune really completed the vibe of both songs. I'm guessing some people thought that the album was too long and slow possibly. I wish Gary would play something live from Dance again. In 2000 he did perform Dance live on the Scarred album and it was amazing. Sorry I'm babbling now. I got a little too excited that someone else liked Dance as much as I do. I feel like I'm the only one who does sometimes

    E.... ....

I completely agree! It's by far his best work. The atmospheric-ness of the long songs, the experimentation with the short songs, and the amazing bonus tracks just make it such a unique experience. My favorite track is Stories, with the titular song at a close second. There isn't one weak moment on the album!

  16. A.... ....

And this is the very song that ended my future love affair with his music. First four albums, legendary. Everything else after, and that Warriors Tour, ended it for me.

    A.... ....

Agree. It stunk from here onwards

    A.... ....

@David FE Rubbish. Music For Chameleons is one of his best songs in my opinion.

  17. B.... S....

    Love this fucking song.

  18. S.... ....

    Thank for the gems :-)

  19. D.... I....

Love Gary Numan! New wave rocks always!

  20. f.... s....

Gary goes Howard Huges. Long live the space cadet era though.

  21. S.... B....

Very Japan like. I think Mick Karn played the saxophone and bass on this so not too surprising

    S.... B....

You are correct, Mick played on the Dance album.

  22. M.... F....

Superb, haven't heard this for a long time.

I've included it in my new playlist of 1981 pop videos: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL6oCQqv2KW6Ubyfs-hFMp-0u2q01-THu4
