Gary Numan - Me! I Disconnect From You Lyrics
The alarm rang for days
You could tell from conversations
I was waiting by the screen
I couldn't recognise my photograph
Me, I disconnect from you
I was walking up the stairs
Something moved in silence
I could feel his mind decaying
Only inches away from me
And I disconnect from you
Please don't turn me off
I don't know what I'm doing outside
Me and the telephone that never rings
If you were me, what would you do?

You know, I think he could pull off that fashion style today.

2:43 Anybody know the synth used????
You know he fed his synths through guitar effects pedals right?
Gary sings this song in concert too recently, and we love it..
Grace Jone's with Sly and Robbie cover of this from 1980 also worth checking if you like good dub.
feeling so connected to a song about disconnection
Tubeway Army is short lived band from 1977 to 1979.
Love the pounding bass lines!
He's still touring and releasing albums, you know!
Youtube needs a LOVE button. Get with the times....
This geezer travelled time I tell ya. This song is so relevant these days. "I don't know what I'm doing outside
. Me and the telephone that never rings."
Romance in the modern world, enjoy it kids ;)
If you don't get this it's your loss and I don't have the patience to make you see it anymore. It isn't about making my cliche understand, it's about making those who understand my cliche!
one of his greatest works predicts facebook and other social media
Came here to make Turkish coffee, now back in 79' with Gary Newman ..
God bless YouTube
Gary Numan is a visionary. This is more meaningful in 2019 than in 1979.
Sadly so, on many levels.
Absolutely!
The classic rock station in Orlando would play "Cars" behind the hourly traffic report and I was obsessed with that amazing hook. I had to know who that artist was! I wasn't even listening to anything like it and I considered myself musically diverse. Now he is one of my favorites.
I can't remember a single friend that had this album when I was rockin it. He had been on SNL and I heard praying to the aliens and was hooked. Great album!!!
Fantastic!
The Chain. The caller has hung up.
Me! I Disconnect from You!
i remember buying this at 13 ish and i was the only person within 5 mile that liked it......i suffered but cared not a jot cuz i had music at last.......love it and listen all the time .....epic
we would have been best friends...
@Leslie Schmidt back in punk rock days it went down like a lead balloon with the fellow punks i associated with but like i cared.... many of them liked some right dishwater ...LOL great days , we were ahead of our day now with hindsight ;0)
@Talorc MacAllan i had no friends because i moved to siberian hell @ the age of 17. this place just keeps regressing.
aye thats not good......pick yourself up dust yourself down and GTF out of there i would.......well as long as it was not Scotland with its back to the wall cuz then i would not ......so its a tuff one bro :0(
I have this as my ringtone...:-)
I was into him in high school. still have a couple of lp's in a box. 1979 "wierdo". Even saw him at the Warfield in sf... back then. I couldnt articulate what it was back then... wow i read his lyrics now and its ooooh fuuuck. This guy is the space baby from 2001 a space odysee.
all growns up!
This is really exciting! Thanks!
LOL...i know right...it seems music like gary numan, david bowie and the like during this time was more futuristic than music actually is today....40 years later.
Hi folks, hope you like that version!

dan breeden I love Telekon (as does Trent Reznor)
Fantastic
Yes, it is always wise to unfriend and block your ex on facebook and all forms of social media, because otherwise you will still pine away for them and never move on. This amazing Gary Numan classic is way ahead of its time.
synthia keyboard way before Facebook there was a concept to disconnect from people
Still a great album !
Just realised how alike <-> Motorway City ~ Hawkwind
sounds nothing like it. the chords aren't even similar let alone the melody. PiL, it could be argued, ripped off Motorwary City for the track off the 1992 LP That What Is Not called Acid Drops.

Der Wahnsinn.....super
bye bye cara
Gaz progressed amazingly from 'Tubeway Army' thru 'Replicas' thru 'Pleasure Principle' thru 'Telekon' thru 'Dance' and then what the fuck happened! A real pity because despite the recent resurgence in his career i think a time lost to indulgence.
Numan lost his way due to the nasty vicious music journalists of the time, everything he did was wrong according them. Plenty of other artists from the the same time have commented on this and agree his career was cut short because of them.
I was a fan at the time, not as simple as that in my opinion, he was never the critics favourite from the start.
I was also a fan at the time
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🎵🎵🎵🌍🌎🌎🚀🚀🚀🌌🌌🌌😄😄😍😍😍😛😄😄
Excellent
I first heard this song in a friends music collection at school, :^) cool music!

Funny how music takes you back to a time and place, Weymouth 1979. Jeez.
Yup..my first apartment on my own. October 1979.
Carl Newman sounds the same as Gary Numan.
