Garland, Judy - Zing! Went The Strings Of My Heart Lyrics

Never could carry a tune, never knew where to start
You came along when everything was wrong and put a song in my heart

Dear when you smiled at me, I heard a melody
It haunted me from the start
Something inside of me started a symphony
Zing! Went the strings of my heart

'Twas like a breath of spring, I heard a robin sing
About a nest set apart
All nature seemed to be in perfect harmony
Zing! Went the strings of my heart

Your eyes made skies seem blue again
What else could I do again
But keep repeating through and through
"I love you, love you"

I still recall the thrill, I guess I always will
I hope 'twill never depart
Dear, with your lips to mine, a rhapsody divine
Zing! Went the strings of my heart

[Instrumental]

Dear when you smiled at me, I heard a melody
It haunted me from the start
Something inside of me started a symphony
Zing! Went the strings of my heart

'Twas like a breath of spring, I heard a robin sing
About a nest set apart
All nature seemed to be in perfect harmony
Zing! Went the strings of my heart

Your eyes made skies seem blue again
What else could I do again?
But keep repeating through and through
"I love you, love you"

I still recall the thrill, I guess I always will
I hope 'twill never depart
Dear, with your lips to mine, a rhapsody divine
Zing! Oh, Oh, Oh went the strings of my heart

Awwww~ she looks so cute here! its so sad that this might be last song her father heard before death :(

  5. M.... B....

Such an angelic voice whenever I hear this song.

I don't know how she kept composure knowing her father was passing away during her first radio performance of this song.
She was told to sing only for him.
    And literally from her heart.

  6. K.... ....

One take Judy, she was amazing.

  7. M.... G....

This is the recording they used for Judy's audition in Life With Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows.

Sweet🥰 now we have Miley Cyrus

    L.... ....

    L.... ....

@D0NNA my point is sarcastic..I can't stand Miley!

    L.... ....

@Letz oh. Sorry for my comment. I were little bit rude. I am happy cuz you also think that Judy is better than any other singer/actress, but Avril Lavigne is actually my favourite singer. However, I love Garland and Lavigne :).

    L.... ....

  16. B.... G....

I don't know why, but I can smell fresh-cut grass when I see Judy sing this song.

  32. I.... ....

    Such a cutie

  33. M.... A....

Judy had the most beautiful voice, so sad her horrible mother made her a drug addict and then sold her to MGM to those pigs who continued giving her drugs, pedophiles executives, so sad. I watched her last t.v. appearance on the covett show it was so sad to see her like that. If you want to watch here is the link.

    S.... B....

    @Taylor Maddux your welcome :)

I love Judy Garland, Marilyn Monroe, & James Stewart. ❤️

    L.... S....

Liana Soares I love her too.. sad girls can’t be like her. She’s so perfect!

  36. J.... L....

Judy thought she was ugly. I wished she knew how beautiful she really was. And that voice and talent...one of the greatest!

  37. t.... g....

Oh wow Uncle Henry on the left at 1:47

  38. W.... ....

If there is a afterlife, I wonder what she is doing.

  39. L.... F....

Ughhhh what a beautiful soul and voice. The greatest talent, of that era and forever in my heart.

  40. D.... G....

    Her voice is just 😭😭😭

  41. P.... L....

She was 16 when she recorded this. Take that crap pop singers of today with no talent!

    P.... L....

Paul Latimer - just one small correction, she was 13 when she sang that song.

  42. B.... B....

She’s the kind if i could have carried her books to school for her I would never forget her.

  43. j.... ....

Her voice radiates with her heart.  That is what makes a singer great--when they sing with their hearts.

  44. D.... S....

    NORMAN !

  45. P.... L....

How DARE you take the camera off Judy during a performance!

  46. R.... S....

Beautiful lyrical performance by the young Garland.

  47. s.... ....

    That sublime voice......Heaven.

  50. M.... B....

    I love her

  51. R.... A....

    Beautiful!!!!!

  52. G.... ....

And they(MGM) said she was plain and ugly??? Far from it !!! How dare they?! This is beautiful!

  53. A.... P....

    I love her...forever Judy Garland!!

  54. L.... W....

For a girl at this age to sing the finish in this way is pure genius . A talent that was god given , the very best . It’s not only that she reaches the notes , it’s the Sound of her voice that sets her apart . This song and the dear Mr gable ( you made me love you ) are the very best so by the time over the rainbow came out she was already recognized as the best

  55. H.... ....

This when Judy Father Died It was so sad please go watch me and my shadows Judy Garland if you already saw it already let me know! :)

  56. S.... ....

    She is so beautiful

  57. 4.... s....

    Why is she so adorable?

  58. s.... d....

this song calms me down so much. her voice really does suit this song.

  59. D.... p....

    So triggered right now.

    D.... p....

    Saint Plague why?

    D.... p....

    Because its 2018...

    D.... p....

Saint Plague I see what you mean, American culture was at its peak back then...

  60. I.... A....

Judy, I love you with all my heart...

  61. P.... C....

    Judy garland is my sister

  62. D.... L....

I do not think there has ever been anyone like her.. She was so talented and sang, danced and acted equally well. Also, her singing voice has such emotion and feeling it goes straight to the heart.

  63. g.... s....

    That singular voice..

  64. D.... S....

    My heartstrings just zinged.

  65. H.... J....

You can tell that they filmed the last part of this scene at another time; look at her hair as she sings "I knew I loved you heaps..." its more feathered in back. I think it's because they filmed and recorded the swing version that finished the number but decided to axe it and have Judy finish it off as a pure ballad instead.

  66. S.... ....

she seems so sweet and innocent, what a nice voice

  67. j.... ....

People who know Garland from the more histrionic and overheated performances if her late career may well forget the freshness, luster and pure tonal beauty of her singing voice during these early years. I know of no pop singer in the history of American music that comes close. (so damn sweet and lovable onscreen here, by the way--and it's all 100% unforced, and natural. Called 'talent' , I guess, and this was one of a kind!

    j.... ....

and not a single AutoTune or MeloDyne in sight either, unlike the so-called stars of today.

  68. D.... K....

    Just perfect!

  69. K.... o....

Anyone can tell me where I can find this movie plz!!! God it's so hard to find!!

    K.... o....

I got my copy at Warner Archive Collection.

  70. r.... b....

Judy is such a pretty girl with a lovely voice.

  71. A.... ....

She sang this on Arthur Godfrey's old radio show.

  72. C.... M....

    Just gorgeous l!

  73. F.... L....

she almost hit a 10 second note... it was at least 7 second long note at the end... happy 95th birthday Judy Garland.

  74. F.... L....

she almost hit a 10 second note... it was at least 7 second long note at the end... happy 95th birthday Judy Garland.

  75. D.... E....

I fell in love for the first time when I saw Judy sing this. I'm only 49, so you can imagine that, in my day I probably only saw her in "Listen, Darling" once on cable. Judy was my first crush. She was perfect. What's not to love?

    D.... E....

My first crush too after seeing her Meet Me In St Louis.

    D.... E....

@Charlotte Luckey my first crush when I was twelve and saw her sing to a picture of Clark Gable "you made me Love you"

  76. W.... 1....

Perhaps the grestest talent in the history of show business. What those Hollywood bastards did to that poor girl was CRIMINAL.

    W.... 1....

    WATCHMAN 117 I agree

    W.... 1....

Also blame her mother. She put her kids on sleeping pills, and amphetamines.

    W.... 1....

WATCHMAN 117 you are 100% correct in your assessment. Judy Garland not only had the greatest voice of any person that ever lived, she touched her audiences so personally that a we immediately feel a bond develop. When Judy sings, she overwhelms the senses because every time she sang, it was her being true which is why she was so winning. Some singers can sing the same songs in the same key or even have a high octave range, but no one reaches and touches the listener so much so that they stop whatever they are doing just to watch her perform. Just look at her on stage performing. The audience focuses on her and doesn’t really watch whom ever is with her performing. I don’t care if it’s Sinatra or the President of the United States, she steals each and every moment. Her talent and presence is baffling and that’s why when younger people discover her on YouTube or tv or movies or internet, it’s like an epiphany when they see her appear and then shows them what real talent is! RIP Judy

    W.... 1....

    The greatest.

  77. M.... J....

So innocent and beautiful this movie was a fav. I watched this song over and over then I found Barry Manilow and Judy sing this on you tube when she was older, it was so sad!

  78. J.... M....

That song touched my heart and her voice sounded beautiful and it made me want to cry.

  79. D.... K....

    Love her voice. So sweet.

  80. B.... B....

Off imitated, but never duplicated. That was talent.

    B.... B....

You are correct. I am 32 and i absolutely adore judy garland. Her voice is like no other.

  81. S.... ....

    Really lovely!!!

  82. S.... L....

RIP Judy... You have been greatly missed and will always be remembered.

  83. H.... T....

She looks so young and innocent here!

  84. C.... M....

Judy had the sweetness of Deanna Durbin - before my time but I can really appreciate her rendition and her innocence at that time.

  85. T.... ....

    So sweet.

  86. W.... M....

I believe Judy before 1940 at age 20 was most spontaneous and fresh but after that became more predictable and less stylish. He early work is my choice.

    W.... M....

Judy wasn't 20 until 1942 and you obviously haven't seen Presenting Lily Mars!!

  87. W.... P....

Amazing girl, where could she be now, except in heaven, peaceful at last, and...singing ?

    W.... P....

Yes, singing and performing all on HER terms, and not because she’s being pushed to. Her mother was the one who pushed her into show business. Liza Minnelli went into it because she herself wanted to and not because she was pushed.

  88. M.... O....

I was brought here by Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows where Tammy Blanchard lip-synched to this song. Judy sure was a little girl with a big voice

    M.... O....

    That's a great movie.

  89. r.... ....

My mother loved Judy Garland. She was a year younger than Judy, so, they grew up together. Aug. 20, tomorrow is the 2nd anniversary of my mom's death. She had a bad fall in 2011, hit her head, and was never the same person after that. When visiting her once, I played this on YouTube. My mother's eyes lit up and said, "Is that Judy Garland?" It made her very happy.

    r.... ....

I lost my mom as well, a few years ago, who also loved Judy Garland. Strangely, seeing this comment made me feel so much better since we had such similar experiences. It seems our moms past at around the same time, and I as well once played this for her when she was sick and she lit up. Thank you for sharing your story, I wish you the best in the coming years <3

    r.... ....

@Olivia Mazzola I am also sorry for your loss.

    r.... ....

    D0NNA thank you <3

    r.... ....

Thank you for sharing how beautiful

    r.... ....

So sorry about your loss 💞💞

  90. M.... R....

judy es una de mis actrices favorita, es hermosa y tiene una bella voz, la adorooo!! :)

  91. W.... S....

    Bates Motel brought me here

  92. j.... ....

What a superb rendition. No one has ever sung this song again with as much heart.

  93. D.... K....

Seeing this clip, it makes me sick that Judy died so young.  Beautiful song -- really showcased Judy's talent.

  94. k.... b....

My absolute favourite Judy song and my favourite version. I get tears in my eyes looking at her pretty face and thinking thank God she didn't know what the future held for her. All that talent in one small package and and MGM just destroyed her. I am glad that Mickey was always there for her.

    k.... b....

Judy Garland was a really hard partier. People make her into just a victim, but if you listen to the stories it is really obvious that she was having fun and doing inappropriate things for her own kicks.

    k.... b....

@BattleMercy101 Yes That is a very good point you make though.

    k.... b....

Nutsilica: Renaissance moving comix That is a really unfair comment. You don’t seem to take into consideration that she was under such tight controls, restrictions...really abuse for her childhood that how do you expect her to turn out? You cannot treat somebody that way for decades from an young age in childhood and then throw addictive mind controlling drugs for decades on top of that and expect them to turn out “normal!” First of all her mind was chemically FOREVER altered by the drugs and she was also forever altered by the emotional abuse that she suffered thruout her childhood.

    k.... b....

@Liz Lessner I'm glad you said that because it was also true and you saved me from saying everything you said but maybe more!!!👍🤗

    k.... b....

Mickey Rooney was there but not truly there for her. He was busy trying to get into relationships with models and pretty girls. He didn’t really pay attention to her the way he needed to. They just were good together in show biz, but otherwise he was wrapped up in his own stuff to truly help her. And to be honest I think Judy loves him but he didn’t feel the same way.

  95. N.... D....

    Elle a 16 ans....quelle magnifique voix

  96. P.... P....

This song always makes me cry cuz I always felt that this was the song she sang for her father.

  97. A.... W....

I love young Judy garland. She's so beautiful

  98. P.... ....

Sublime. And I like how she scrunched her nose at 1:19

  99. F.... ....

I sang this, but I sped it up.. And went down 3 octives... I rocked it👏👏

    F.... ....

    hater -_-

    F.... ....

+Furzabawl173  You mean you tried to make it like the Coasters, or maybe the Trammps!

    F.... ....

+Furzabawl173 Is it on Youtube? I'm looking for a HOT version of Zing.

    F.... ....

+Peter Smith  If you're looking for a "hot" version, the best place to look is the Trammps (yes, it's spelled that way) mid-1970s disco version of "Zing." It was a hit and was played a lot on the radio--I remember it well.

    F.... ....

same! Everytime I sing this I go lower and it sounds superb I'll try it faster next time thnx

  100. S.... ....

My favorite Judy Garland song. Although the 1939 recording of this song is the best by far, only in this version  she sings the adorable lyrics: "I knew I loved you heaps and you were mine for keeps".
