Gang Of Four - What We All Want Lyrics

This wheel spins letting me off
It's not the lack of trying
Can't put my finger on it

You can't help being hard up
Can't trust the gods we trusted
Don't think that's any insurance

Could I be happy with something else
I need something to fill my time
Could I be happy with someone else
I need someone to fill my time

This wheel spins letting me off
These doubts and nagging worries
Nothing to work towards

This demon on my back
Preaches the razors cut
The hope that does not fade

Could I be happy with something else
I need something to fill my time
Could I be happy with someone else
I need someone to fill my time

This wheel spins letting me off
It's not the lack of trying
Can't put my finger on it

You can't help being hard up
Can't trust the gods we trusted
Don't think that's any insurance

Could I be happy with something else
I need something to fill my time
Could I be happy with someone else
I need someone to fill my time

Could I be happy with something else
I need something to fill my time
Could I be happy with someone else
I need someone to fill my time

What we want's not what we get

  31. T.... V....

    Made in Leeds England ...

  32. K.... S....

    Abstract art in musical form.
This song is recommended to be played at high volume EQed to bring out the booming bass drum and bass guitar without losing the flavor of the harmonics and rawness of the guitar.

  33. P.... W....

Great Track...shared to the Netshows RADIO "Program 120" Playlist on youtube

  34. R.... H....

My band Groceries performed with Gang of Four at King Tut’s City Gardens in Trenton New Jersey

Best dance track ever, no doubt. First side of solid gold is almost as good as entertainment!, but the second is unfortunately weaker. Still good though.

When I was in college (1980-1984) we had no idea music would be essentially dead in ten years

    T.... M....

It's an amazing coincidence that Real Music died the exact moment you turned 30.

Every generation thinks this. Every generation is wrong.

    T.... M....

C'mon people at least tell him some good bands like Cop Shoot Cop, Arsenal, Harry Pussy, The Jesus Lizard, Unsane, Today is the Day, Neurosis, Melvins, Ride, Chapterhouse, Godflesh, Rapeman, Shellac, Cows, those are some nice 90s bands

    T.... M....

    its still not dead bro

    T.... M....

Think you need to get out more

    T.... M....

    pretty close minded

  62. S.... ....

  77. A.... S....

    Such a badass song.

  78. S.... ....

The only GO4 song that matters.

    S.... ....

This doesn't hold a candle to Damaged Goods. Still fucking superb though.

  79. S.... D....

    Such a relatable song

  80. K.... H....

No one has smarter, more pointed lyrics the GO4. Unfortunately, the irony loses most people. Too bad, there's so much here (and in other work as well.)

    K.... H....

Rings true more so now, I'd say. Geometrically if not exponentially more so, at least here in the States.

    K.... H....

I feel like wire is kinda better

    K.... H....

Bullshit. pompous fucks. if you can't convey your message directly and still keep it interesting then find a better song writer. no point in hiding beneath SUPPOSED ambiguity. Are they "art rock"? or PUNK? that said, I think much of their lyrical content is basically good. nothing out of the ordinary. much of it's good punk lyricism. so I'm not slamming GO4. I'm slamming this notion of artsy fartsy ambiguity being something "oh sooo amazinggggg" in punk to certain people, who don't understand REALLY GREAT songwriting. So if they are art punk then lets call it that.

    K.... H....

For me it is a push between Mark E. Smith, Nick Cave and these guys for most lyrical 'depth' meeting with the era's punk rock bravado. Or something wise sounding like that. But we are in danger of running dry of counter culture icons. R.I.P. Andy Gill.

    K.... H....

Loved them but let's not pretend we're so fucking smart for listening to them. Hate that snobbish shit.

  81. R.... M....

Got it all on vinyl. Great band

    R.... M....

did you regal in the glory of the beginning of this updownload? click

  82. S.... Z....

The musical introduction is too long. When are they starting to talk about Design Patterns? :D

  83. G.... T....

Every time I try to listen to this my wife interrupts me to discuss the latest performance of our Roth IRA. Life, eh?

    G.... T....

LOL... I guess I should give them a fair chance!

    G.... T....

Like WTF? ^^^ Way over my head ^^^

  84. J.... P....

    K.... L....

    Yes, and that bassline!

    K.... L....
