Gang Of Four - Cheeseburger Lyrics

(I need a cheeseburger to go)

I move from one place to the next
I hope they keep down the price of gas
I shoot fast while you talk dollars
See how I will run the table
I won't see my dollar go where they rig it
High numbers low numbers 8 ball break

The last cent is coming out of his head
To be honest or a son like his own
And all this changed we're sure of the rides
The old country's in the back of his mind
I hope his home is somewhere you go to sleep
High numbers low numbers 8 ball break

No classes in the u s of a
Improve yourself the choice is yours
Work at your job you can make it pay
Make friends quick buy them beer
You never know when you're gonna lose them
High numbers low numbers 8 ball break

I'm at the wheel of the company truck
On the road and all alone
Sometimes I think money is my only goal
It makes me sad
Work on up another four miles
Coffee fries and a cheeseburger

And they say there was no good music during the '80's.

technically 1977 to 1983 were phenomenal underground music movement, while 1984 to 1989 was like a sudden drop-off, it became  strangely less creatively-expressive, people became less individualistic and more clone-like, all doing the same thing, it became less free and more materialistic, there was a lot of  less inspired, less interesting characters that merged into the scene at the '84 point… the club scenes  all closed during 1982-84 and were replaced by record spin dance clubs, that happened in other cities at the same time, while many bands tried to keep the early spirit alive, it was just overwhelmed by a shallower wave. and mtv was awful from the start, they did absolutely nothing for the bands like early gang of 4 and all the really interesting bands of early 80s.  many younger people don't see that side of the era.  many great independent albums and bands doing their own thing 77-83.

@Preliminimal Pretty good summary of how I remember it.  Can't say enough for the second half of the '70's either, but your right, music fell of a cliff and never recovered.  That goes for everywhere from the UK to California although of course details were different everywhere.
