Gallagher, Rory - The King Of Zydeco Lyrics

Well, it's a straight line as the crow flies,
To a heaven here on earth.
And if you make time, it's a cool drive,
Head down to the coast.
If your taste runs to the gumbo,
Don't know where to go?
Let me introduce you to the King of Zydeco.

If your head leaks like a strainer,
The sea comes to your door.
A strange sound from the juke-joint,
A mile just down the road.
Believe it when you hear it,
The sound of the rubbing board.
Let me introduce you to the King of Zydeco.
Yeahh..

Move it over,
Open up that lane.
Roll it over,
Buddy, I'm insane.

You won't feel like a stranger,
You've found a second home.
You can get out of your tree there,
When that music hits your soul.
Bye-bye Big Brother,
'Cause I'm going away,
I wanna listen to the man,
They call Clifton Chenier.

Feel like a statistic,
Feeling shrink-wrapped too.
It's fun-time baby,
You've been too long in school.
Head down to the place,
Near to Thibodaux,
Let me introduce you to the King of Zydeco.

Move that semi,
Buddy, I'm insane.
It's now or never,
I can't touch the brakes.

Well, it's a stone's throw from the Bayou,
And I can see the sign.
Shining like a beacon,
Right on through the night.
No more airs and graces,
Gotta catch the show.
Let me introduce you to the King of Zydeco.

  7. L.... J....

Less than 4,000 views a year for a masterful musician such as Rory, that's a great pity.

+Fa'a Fayo.......exactly right. Also I dare say, the reason the accordion features heavily on this great track. Rory admired Clifton Chenier, a wonderful accordion player from Louisiana also referred to as the "King of the South". Rory actually referred to him as the "BB King of Zydeco". Although they once shared the same bill, Chenier died (1987) before Rory could ever meet him. Another reason I so strongly believe that Rory belongs in the Blues Hall of Fame. All of the old Bluesmen who Rory so loved, gained inspiration from and payed such great homage to are there, this is where Rory deserves to be remembered. He's more than paid his dues IMO.

+Linda Jones Me again! Rory stated he didn't introduce himself to Chenier, when he had the chance, because of his shyness...Bye my dear!!!

But this song is a tribute for Clifton Chenier not John Lee Hooker... just read the title, The king of Zydeco is Chenier, and listen to the lyrics "I wanna listen to the man they call Clifton Chenier"

You're right, but the description does not refer to this song since it is identical for every track uploaded of this album on this channel. It instead referres to Middle Name, mentioned just before. I'd say it's bad communication on their part.

Rory is a true and under appreciated artist
