This album had an experiment/gimmick!! If you listen, there are NO cymbals in the percussion!! Basically marimba and drums drums DRUMS!! The drums were recorded within a brick enclosure. Phil Collins was the drummer here and he reused this technique to a great deal of success on his Face Value album soon thereafter and subsequent Genesis releases.

He used the gated reverb from Intruder that Padgham discovered by accident.

Jennifer Skippings I think I love you? Birdie is an overlooked film for good reasons...I guess. However, it had heart that never deserved overlooking. Modine and Cage were not necessarily at their artistic peaks but they served the brilliance of the film’s director pretty damn well. The cinematography was genius. The soundtrack/score is aaaallllll PG as far as I’m concerned. Good on you for admiring under appreciated art. Be well and never mind the bullocks YouTube commenters.

I saw Gabriel at Hoffman Estates near Chicago on the "SO" tour, it was an outdoor event and it was raining. Early in the set he sang this song and when he sang "it's only water" he held his arms up and the rain immediately stopped. It was one of the coolest moments I have ever experienced at a show. I thought he was a god. Still think that.
