Gabriel, Peter - Mirrorball Lyrics

I plant the kind of kiss that wouldn't wake a baby
On the self-same face that wouldn't let me sleep
And the street is singing with my feet
And dawn gives me a shadow I know to be taller

All down to you, dear
Everything has changed

My sorry name has made it to graffiti
I was looking for someone to complete me

Not anymore, dear
Everything has changed

And we made the moon our mirrorball
The streets, an empty stage
The city sirens violins
Everything has changed

So lift off love
Lift off love

We took the town to town last night
We kissed like we invented it
And now I know what every step is for
To lead me to your door

Know that while you sleep
Everything has changed

We made the moon our mirrorball
The streets, an empty stage
The city sirens violins
Everything has changed
Everything has changed
Everything has changed

So lift off love
Lift off love (down to you, dear)
Lift off love (down to you, dear)
Lift off love (down to you, dear)
Lift off love (down to you, dear)
Lift off love (down to you, dear)

Gabriel, Peter Mirrorball Comments
  1. f.... ....

I'm in absolute awe of Gabriel and in love with Garvey and Elbow.
Like others here, I find Gabriel's take on Mirrorball brillant, especially the orchestral arrangements. I'm mpre than glad Gabirel did this. It's both a tribute to the original and it shows his inspired maestria in creating special, incomparable musical moods and unique musical structures (I like this better than a lot of other original material of his.)

  2. R.... S....

Guy Garvey must have cried like a baby, when he heard this.
    Fucking hell!
    What a dream!

  3. D.... W....

    Perfect!

  4. G.... D....

    Gorgeus 😍

  5. F.... B....

    .......better

  6. j.... ....

Don`t get me wrong ; I love Peter Gabriel`s work and his wonderful songs, but being totally honest and trying to be objective, I just really don`t think this adds anything worthwhile to the original Elbow version. No offence intended!

  7. N.... J....

Wow ! I’ll complete you.................. Peter you blow my mind ! What’s going on ! Superb ❤️

  8. I.... E....

This is my high school marching band’s second segment song. It’s so pretyyyy

  9. G.... E....

As an older person-63yrs- I LOVE this version. but also love Guy Garvey et al-consider myself so lucky to be alive and listening to music from such great artists....

  10. F.... ....

I prefer the soaring vocals of guy and this to my ears is too muddled with instrumental work

  11. b.... ....

You cant beat the original, but this one comes close

    b.... ....

not really true, just take bittersweat symphony as an example

  12. D.... W....

I get goosebumps listen to this song!

  13. W.... W....

The orchestra have produce a beautiful version.

  14. K.... H....

    Everything has changed

  15. L.... S....

    this is kickazzzz wow

  16. C.... H....

Fuck... My favourite Song covered in an unexpected way.... Thank You!!!

  17. F.... C....

    This song is.... IMPRESIONANTE!

  18. N.... A....

Brilliant song, did anyone else come here from the show quantico or the movie WALL-E? both great film masterpieces where peter Gabriel got to show off some of his skill in music making.

    N.... A....

Nathanael Avakian wall-E? Really? Yes, we watched quantico and the orchestra sounded in 02:00min like the song "Nowhere of Africa" :)

    N.... A....

Nathanael Avakian number 5 - Journey to kenia :)

  19. E.... H....

The animation was lovely and added well to the song.

  20. T.... K....

Original and best, but elbows cover is good too

    T.... K....

Tony Kelly -it is actually the other way around. Peter cover of an Elbow song

    T.... K....

    Peter Gabriel did originally

    T.... K....

Seriously, this was originally an Elbow song.  Gabriel recorded it for his album of cover versions, Scratch My Back.  Most of the artists he covered (including Elbow) then contributed their own versions of his songs to the companion release, And I'll Scratch Yours.

    T.... K....

It´s an Elbow song buddy. This is a cover version

    T.... K....

It's simple enough to find out who is given the credit for writing any song, preferably before shooting your mouth off.

  21. K.... C....

I absolutely adore Elbow, this is my favourite of theirs and one of my favourites songs of all time and yet I find this version by someone I never rated much before has blown my mind!

    K.... C....

Karen Coburn - I'm with you as far as Mirrorball being a favorite Elbow track. But I might be a few years older - Peter Gabriel has been one of my favorite musicians for a really long time. Blown away by this. What a perfect marriage!

    K.... C....

Karen Coburn this version can give one bumps... He is incredible...

    K.... C....

Have a listen to BLOOD OF EDEN and SECRET WORLD from US...and  SAN JACINTO / WALLFLOWER and RHYTHM OF THE HEAT from PG4... Then you may respect the man quite a lot more... oh,and I adore ELBOW too !!

  22. G.... V....

    Profondo come il mare.

  23. a.... ....

I don't believe in putting music in competition with itself, but this version beats the shit out of Elbow's.

  24. B.... ....

I love the song and the video.  (Very sneaky).

  25. G.... ....

    fantastic arrangement!

  26. G.... ....

listening to this version, it seems like it was written for him to sing! (I know Gabriel is a massive influence on Guy Garvey though so its probably not that surprising).

  27. U.... M....

wonderful. Thanks a lot for posting. Peter Gabriel is a genius.

    U.... M....

Ulrike Mayer , check out the original by Elbow... Both are wonderful!!! I heard Gabriel's version first.. It reminds me of musical arrangements like my father would do..😊

  28. R.... ....

On my MP3 player, this version comes before Elbow's. They're actually incredibly nice to hear back-to-back - complimentary to one another. I love both.

  29. P.... ....

Knowing the Elbow song first...well, what IS this? He just overwhelms you with the orchestration. The Elbow version is simpler, and more enjoyable IMO.

    P.... ....

It's from his "Scratch my Back" album/tour - all covers and in turn those he covered have covered songs of his.  I like both, but when he does this live - with a live orchestra - it really does blow you away.  His cover of Book of Love is astounding too.

    P.... ....

@Catriona Cuthbert I LOVE this version so much better than Elbow's.

    P.... ....

when i saw this live at Gabriel's tour, i genuinely burst into tears, the sound was phenomenal. id listened to the album over and over on the run up to the show and nothing compared to it live. the O2 was just.... there are no words

    P.... ....

I agree. I love PG, but he over-simplified it. I was introduced to this song, and Elbow when my son, thinking to make me happy, blared it at full volume from my office which is pretty much right under where my bed is, and I had finally jsut drifted off to sleep. We had a talk about it the next day. I have 3 hard copies of SSK just in case.

  30. J.... F....

When I bought "Scratch my Back" in 2010 I was surprised by this song. I had to lie down to listen to it.

  31. P.... R....

Judging by the other comments, I pre-accept I'm wrong.  But what the f**k is this?  Its awful.

    P.... R....

He recorded a whole album of cover versions expecting the artists concerned to return the compliment.  While most of them did (eventually), a number of them were unimpressed by his efforts and refused to play ball.  Fort the record, Elbow did reciprocate.

    P.... R....

    Peter Richardson be quiet

  32. Z.... ....

When peter gabriel covers you, you're doing something right.

    Z.... ....

Totally, what a compliment. That album from Elbow is indeed magnificent though.

  33. G.... D....

una verdadera obra de arte y la calidad del sonido... magnifica! felicitaciones!

  34. R.... M....

Питер - вырождающийся вид гениальных исполнителей.

  35. C.... B....

You know you've made it when PG covers your song. Elbow are a hard working band that have been around forever and deserve to be up there. This is what happens when two genius collaborate. The results speak for themselves. Mind blowing...

  36. D.... R....

    nice one, cheers.

  37. g.... ....

    THANKS !

  38. S.... H....

My favourite Elbow song well covered :D

  39. T.... L....

Amazing! Can you please tell me where you got the images from? Thanks so much.

  40. j.... u....

  42. R.... C....

made a fantastic video for my favorite singer/songwriter ever!

  43. L.... ....

It's weird to hear that when you know Elbow's song but it's an interesting version too

  44. G.... A....

Interesting. I quite like the arrangement, but overall it's not a patch on the original..

  45. a.... ....

    wow!!!!!

  46. S.... ....

    hey....it's beautiful Bernd, as allways!
    best regards
    bravo :-)
