I think it is about a person who failed at a previous relationship with someone and he's realized that the person he loved has moved on and he waited too long to mend it.

This is impressive. I cannot stress enough well this song fits this imagery.

I can count on one hand and another finger how many songs that I have played over and over and over and over and over in the last 43 years and this is one of those.
It started with Mouldy Old Dough. Go figure!

The film is "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" from 1966 starring Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor.

On another little fact of "Fame," that brought me back here....of all people, it was Liz that brought about the meeting of Bowie and Lennon. That's one freaky show. So sad, everything that has a beginning also has an end.
