Funkadelic - Uncle Jam Lyrics

All right
All you inductees fall out and form some kinda line or something
I want all you young ladies to stick your chests out
And get your hips to move!
'Cause Uncle Jam wants you to join his army!
Come on, y'all

I know it's early, but you gotta get down
Go on and rock, Sue, rock!
I'm a soldier, in the army, of Uncle Jam
Come on and work out in that foxhole
Ain't no need to get dirty, but you can get down
This is the army with the mission to rescue dance music from the blahs
We're not gonna do it by fighting--Get up! Get down!
Uncle Jam wants you to funk with him
La da dee da dee dee dee dee da

You said you'd be ready, if he called on you
Now he's a righteous kind of leader
Just demanding funk and groove from you
Get down
I see you out there in that field, riding on that 88, feeling ok haHEY!
So you want to dance? You've got to join Uncle Jam's army
Pick your feet up
Come on y'all
If you want to dance? You've got to join Uncle Jam's army

All right you mugs- this is Uncle Jam's army, see?
And we're on groove maneuvers, see
I don't want nobody sweatin' till I tell ya
You gotta you gotta you got to
Marching in the foxhole
All right you mugs, so you want to dance?
This is Uncle Jam's army, and we're on groove maneuvers, see
You've got to join Uncle Jam's army

Just marching to the groove, honey
Got it going on the good foot
Gotta get on up
Happy feet, happy foot, happy time
Marching in this army
Marching in this army, see
Rescuing dance music from the blahs
Rescuing dance music from the blahs
Wake up!

Come on, y'all
Now here's where we start steppin'
Like we ought to do
You've got to join Uncle Jam's army
Wear those colors that make you look like you belong
Hey boy, cut your hair!
Come give it to me
March to the left, right, march to the left
On and rock now, funky, y'all, come on and rock now
March to your left, it's funky now? to the tune of Jam
Get it honey
I know you're groovin' when you're movin' now, come on
And get funky with your Uncle, baby
I'm your thrill sergeant!
Uncle Jam wants you to funk with him
La da dee da dee dee dee dee da

If he calls on you
All right you mugs, so you want to dance, hey?
Uncle Jam wants you! Uncle Jam wants you!
I - I don't think ya heard me
Uncle Jam wants you Uncle Jam wants you to funk with him
Come on, I said he wants you
He wants you to jam with him
Hey boy, whatcha doing sweatin' over there
Didn't I tell ya, ya ain't supposed to be sweatin', boy?
You-You-You You gotta you gotta you got to
You got to make me feel good
Oh there's something coming over me
I think I'll join, join the army
Sacrificing everything but the beat
Sometimes we got to fall in the foxhole called life
And I look up, and I don't see nobody trying to help me out
Oh, I feel good tonight

Now that was all right
But some of you all ain't doin' what you're supposed to do
I just see a few hands clapping out there
Uncle Jam's army, here- yeah
Disturbing the peace at the bridge of the river quiet
Marching in the name of the groove
No AWOP-absent without the P
Uncle Jam's army here-so you wanna dance?
This is booty do your duty time
We're soldiers on booty patrol
And I'm your thrill sergeant
And he's your thrill sergeant
Gonna keep you on your toes, cause Uncle Jam wants you
To do what you're supposed to do, and join his army!

All right you mugs, one more time!
I see you there marching in a foxhole
But there's one thing I want to say to you
Gotta reel it up and turn it round and round
So you wanna dance, eh?
Let me hear you say it loud and proud!
Feeling good? Let me knock on wood
Disturb the peace at the bridge of the river quiet
Loud and proud!
On to the left right, on to the one
On to the left right, on to the left
All right you mugs, so you wanna dance, eh
It's on the one!
All right you mugs, pick 'em up
It's on the one!
March to the left

OH BOY ON THE ONE P.FUNK STYLE! ✌

  40. F.... Z....

Funkadelic were way out there and way ahead of their time. Their early stuff fused psychedelic with funk beautifully and their late 70s stuff was pure alien dance funk. Some of the most complex bass and guitar playing married to fiendishly funky freakishness and utter zaniness. some great keyboard work also

  41. k.... ....

Brilliant!!!!! I can just imagine a platoon of Black soldiers shakin their booties in unison to a march!!!! I would love to see it. Uncle jam wants You to funk with him la da dee da dee da dee dee dum Marchin in the name of the groove

    H.... C....

Heshimu Colar I was in the 7th grade.

    H.... C....

George was warning us about these record lables back then. The Blash were the record lables that they were trying to save dance music from.

    H.... C....

Heshimu Colar You were WAY ahead of them at that age.

  50. M.... J....

Bootsy was sick on that bass!!

    M.... J....

isaac cotton I sure thought that was Bootsy oh well he was sick on that bass!!

    M.... J....

I know, there are so many great bass lines in so many p funk songs and I can never tell who's doing them.

    M.... J....

Marcus Johnson you are correct that’s bootsy on bass he co-wrote the song and you can always tell when he’s playing. From James Brown to p-funk🤘

    M.... J....

@George Moore That is not Bootsy on bass. that is Cordell Mosson. Look it up. Nobody can play the PFunk bass like him, ijs.

    M.... J....

Dionne Miller on this particular song it’s bootsy he co-wrote the song with George Clinton Bernie worrel and himself he’s the additional bass player on this track. Goggle it. He also played drums on knee deep. Boogie is on the album but not this particular song🤘

  51. 1.... ....

  68. B.... c....

This album was Georges highest point such as this song. A little after this came out the whole band will find out what happens when you make your own record company and use multiple labels to make albums.

  69. A.... ....

    A.... ....

@George Moore WHERE TO SING UP?
    Yours was no answer.

  70. r.... m....

This was a great concept Album. The album cover was inspired by the iconic Huey P. Newton photograph.

  71. r.... m....

Philippe went from the Spinners to the Funkadelic's. That must have been a big culture shock.

    r.... m....

They actually said he was Down grating

    r.... m....

Actually he was originally with Boo and left for the Spinners.

  75. t.... j....

The song time 10:26 is my Bday ... damn.. NO WONDER I AM SO FUNKY!!
THEY BEAT THIS DOWN LIKE NO OTHER!!

  76. D.... Y....

Thanks for your comment GozerThe Gozerian. Earth, Wind and Fire is my all time favorite group. But I wouldn't categorize them as dance music. They don't really fall into any category. Brothers Johnson was really funk and without Quincy Jones there careers went back to studio musicians. However you are very correct with Chic. I was really calling out repetitive mindless efforts with overabundant string backup like Silver Connection or Andrea True.

  77. D.... Y....

Rescuing Dance music from the blahs was right!  Disco was destroying creative Black music. One of the greatest funk albums ever from cover to cover. Phillippe added a real jazz/skat element that added to its uniqueness. like a Funky Al Jarreau!

    D.... Y....

But come on now you KNOW my boy Al is funky tho

    D.... Y....

@GozerTheGozerian  That's because the Funk did not end!

    D.... Y....

    @Romeo Cologne
'Tis true. No one can contain the funk.

    D.... Y....

Phillipe was the best. He made the record jam. Instant classic.

    D.... Y....

@GozerTheGozerian they all had a different style of funk. They were innovators.

  78. J.... C....

    'Murica

  79. N.... O....

Cameo did ape a little of this with their Soul army at the start

  80. l.... ....

I didn't realize it, but that is the late Phillippe Wynn from the Spinners doing the drill seargent voice. I know he left the Spinners to go solo, but was in Funkadelic for a minute. They know they can take a song past 3:00 minutes and folks don't get mad, they just jam LOL!!!

    l.... ....

@lepoetress The master of the long jam is the Godfather of Soul James Brown and we could not get mad at him either

    l.... ....

    True that, James Bell Jr.

    l.... ....

    lepoetress

    l.... ....

All these years (decades) I was wondering who the hell the drill sargent was in this jam.....fucking brilliant!

    l.... ....

It was cool that's all i should have went 2 v75

  81. c.... w....

I always wondered whether this was Skeet, Bootsy or Boogie on bass guitar. That line is tight @ 1:58

  82. C.... H....

    Bootsy!!!

  83. G.... D....

i was n the US ARMY when this came out but was jammin this song so much i blew a speaker out.SO LET IT BE KNOWN THAT I WAS ONE NATION UNDER A GROOVE. ONE LISTEN AND U U U U GOT GOT A

  84. G.... C....

    Its all good.

  85. P.... T....

ALL YOU TALK IS ABOUT FUNK HERE WHAT THE FUNK ITS ALL FUNKED UP BECAUSE IM A FUNKATEER TOO SO GET TO THAT AND THATS WHAT IT IS ! GOING BACK TO WHEN I WAS 10 YEARS OLD AND ALWAYS HAD A WALKMAN RADIO IN SCHOOL WITH A EARPHONE AND TEACHERS THOUGHT I HAD A EARPIECE FOR HEARING AID AND THEY BELIEVED IT WHILE I WAS LISTENING TO FLASHLIGHT AND ALL MY FUNK ... NOW ... IM 49 STILL ACTING LIKE A KID WITH ALL THE FUNK THAT GEORGE CLINTON AND BOOTSY AND ALL HIS GANG GOING TO THE GALAXIES ON THE MOTHERSHIP .

  86. T.... ....

The Spinners mixed with P-Funk 5,0000 % real music.

  87. T.... ....

When I was in the 4th grade my gym teacher Mr.Ray would play this song when me and my track teamates would workout and later on in a youngters life a JROTC song.LoL arent RIP Mr. Wynn

  88. l.... ....

Damn Bootsy is workin the hell out that bass

    l.... ....

    Boosty/George Super Bad

    l.... ....

That would be Skeet Curtis and Boogie Mosson on bass

  89. m.... ....

Why did P-Funk do that at 3:10? Who in music history could or would write a change like that? Clinton is a genius. Phillepe "Soul" Wynne in an comedic, alter ego roll. He's one of the greatest singers who ever lived. Then they had the nerve to bring the change back at 7:26. Listen to The Brides in the back "Joy, joy, joy Joy!" And Bernie was playing something so spooky and abstract. I can talk about them all day. I'm done.

    m.... ....

    moehammondmedia Nuff said! !!!

    m.... ....

moehammondmedia That bridge is my favorite part!! I have doubles of this album and I would extend that part to death!! Clinton is no doubt a genius.

    m.... ....

Yeah. That bridge break is very addictive. Like the bridge from EWF, in the Stone. Addictive.

  90. s.... ....

GO ON..ROCK, SUE, ROCK! .....That bass @3:09

  91. G.... T....

Str8 up Funk! PERIOD. With the addition of "THE SPINNERS" lead & LATE GREAT singer Phillipi Wynn makes this trac Funkier. Can you dig it? I knew that you could!

  92. A.... ....

Classic... even this country ass white boy can groove to this.

  93. a.... ....

It is so funny haha I love it !!!

  94. F.... R....

Beginning at the 1:50 mark of the cut, the masterful rhythms are on; and they don't stop!

  95. D.... ....

My history teacher said he used to listen to this.

  96. O.... J....

That bass is like 8 day old collard greens...just stank! Straight FUNKY! Make it talk!!

  97. D.... L....

gotta get down,,,, gotttta get down. I pledge Allegiance To THE JAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
