Funkadelic - Super Stupid Lyrics

Super stupid bought a five cent bag
Thought it was coke, but it was skag
Super stupid did a one and one
Then his eyes begin to water and his nose begin to run

Oh, stupid with your ups and downs
Your maggot brain, your grins and frowns
Super stupid, you're here today
You've lost the fight and the winner is fear

Did-did-did did-um, did-did did-did-did-dum
Did-did-did did-do
Did-did did-did-did-dum
Whoa, hey

Funkadelic Super Stupid Comments
  1. M.... S....

Why does this never get credited for being proto-punk? They have all the same influences and arguably a much more punk sound than most of the other acts considered being such. So hard and so good.

  2. N.... P....

It proves definitively! that great solo guitar is not depended on are ever has been are ever will be on hundreds of fast notes are flourishes of complex but not precision perfectly timed ones! timing is everything great guitar playing and virtually everything else! is also!

  3. t.... ....

Met Eddie Hazel in a hole in the wall type club back in the eighties in southeast D.C. Brother was cool.

  4. T.... M....

Watched the doc on amazon prime wow crazy everyone check it out!!

  5. B.... S....

I seen a comment saying this song is, "the heaviest metal on the table of elements." Facts

  6. C.... O....

    WHO FUCKING DISLIKES THIS

  7. C.... O....

All praise Eddie Hazel, guitar god

  8. W.... ....

This part from 1:05 when George begin to scat to 1:25 is toooo short. One of most heavy guitar riffs ever.
Like a shredding axe. These 20 seconds alone I could listen for 1 hour.

  9. c.... ....

Recipe for making "Super Stupid": Add one cup hard rock/early metal riff, then add one cup killer Hendrix inspired psychedelic guitar.

  10. m.... ....

This track is the very definition of what HARD ROCK is!

  11. M.... P....

    Lord save us!

  12. N.... F....

Used to listen to this when my stephfather came from work with a red nose from cocaine.. he put this song so loud ..and said : listen guy ..this is real music. He rolled a joint and smoked with my.mom .. we lived in the desert of chile.. the sky was deep. This song too.

  13. L.... ....

    RATM parents.

  14. m.... ....

Is he using a Les Paul or strat? Sounds LP to me

    m.... ....

Sounds like strat. The tremolo at the end when he does the insane feedback play sounds like a strat trem, not a bigsby or vibrola. Could be wrong. I get a closer tone to this from my fatstrat with humbuckers than my single coil strats, through a germanium fuzzface clone. Same with maggot brain. Wish we knew the exact gear Eddie used. Maggot brain sounds like standard fuzzface until the climax where it has that ridiculously thick sputtery sound, like the amp is about to explode. Check out a song Funkadelic - Slide on in. It is a unreleased instrumental from this exact maggot brain period. He gets similar tones as super stupid and maggot brain, and you can tell it's a strat from his clean channels. He uses bridge pickup for the rhythm and first clean solo before the 2nd fuzz solo. And you can tell he had a floating trem.

  24. w.... ....

This is Funkadelic that I fell in love with in Detroit as a teenager! BAD AS HELL on all musical levels (and some cool ass lyrics too!)!!!!

  25. C.... K....

fucking awesome jam. eddie sure is smooth with that guitar 😎

  26. B.... S....

The ending is the the greatest play of feedback from any guitarist, the drumming from Tiki Fulwood, is in the league of the greatest of the greats. Loud, heavy, dark, and as metal as fuck.

  27. C.... W....

The whole album was off the chain til this day it's still hands down one of my favorite album's of be all time

  28. M.... P....

Just one of the greatest guitar jams ever

  29. J.... G....

Harvey McGee, drummer and close friend of Hazel stated that this song is actually based on Eddie himself. Said Eddie bought a bag of heroin on accident in Boston thinking it was cocaine. He did a ''one in one'', his eyes got wide and his nose started running. According to Mcgee, ''Super Stupid'' and ''Maggot Brain'' were Eddie Hazel's nicknames everyone called him because he seemed so accident prone to do things this like that. Not to poke light at Mr. Hazel's substance abuse but I always wondered the history behind his nicknames. RIP to Harvey Mcgee, Eddie Hazel and Tiki Fulwood (among the other fallen P Funk soldiers)

    J.... G....

Greatest band to ever bless the world. Eddie is still my number 1 and what made me pick up a guitar.

  30. O.... E....

Some cool blacks turned me on to this when I was 16 back in 1971.

  31. e.... ....

    can't fault this

  32. V.... M....

    Dedicated to our current administration

  33. B.... B....

This was the song I was them perform live in the summer of 71’. I’d just turned 16 and KNEW this was what time it was. Garry Shider, Ron Bykowski, & Eddie Hazel on guitars, Boogie Mosson on bass, Tiki Fulwood on drums, and Bernie Worrell on the keys. I was hooked ... and 48 years later, I’m still hooked.

    B.... B....

Tawl and Billy recorded the song but were not on the road with Delic when I saw them at VCU’s gym in the summer of 71’. Gary was out front in his signature diaper & Strat and sang lead on Super Stupid.

    B.... B....

Lucky! I would give anything just to see a live recording of the period with tiki on drums. So you seen eddie perform super stupid live!!!??? You are lucky

    B.... B....

    B. SMILEY III ... Since 71’ I’ve seen Eddie perform Maggot Brain several times. I remember, at the Capital Center in DC (Landowver MD) right after the release of Standing on the Verge, seeing Eddie open the show with Maggot Brain, then leave the stage. I remember when Michael Hampton (Kid Funkadelic) and Glen Goins came on board which was after the Let’s Take it to the Stage album. Mike took over as the lead guitar and Maggot Brain guitarist. Michael Hampton is the brother of a friend of mine that I went to college with. Mike, Glen, and Jerome (Bigfoot) Bradley joined PFunk around the same time although the first time I saw Mike and Glen, Tiki was still on drums ... which was right after the Let’s Take it to the Stage album. Jerome, Glen, & Mike played together for the first time on the Mothership album. Jerome is a homeboy of mine and I was minimally involved in the Mutiny project.

    B.... B....

My favorite incarnation of Funkadelic is ... Eddie, Ron, Garry, Bernie, Boogie, & Tiki ... The same as the players on the Standing on the Verge album. ... Real Delic. True Delic. Man, they were something to behold!

    B.... B....

@Bruce Bennett wow! I am truly envious! Funkadelic and pfunk is my favorite band of all time, and I wish i can hop on a time machine and see what you were lucky enough to have seen. I'd also give my arm to be in the studio while eddie, billy, tiki, bernie, tawl, george tripping acid while they recorded these masterpieces. Seeing bernie go Beethoven on acid, like on atmosphere or tales of kidd funkadelic. When we lost bernie, we lost a modern beethoven. I guarantee they will be studying that man's genius in collage courses and music theory. If i had a choice, to either see jimi hendrix live, or eddie live, i'd have to go with eddie, and i love jimi. Greatest band to ever grace the world.

  34. k.... ....

Even the fade out is genius! My ABSOLUTE favorite FUNKADELIC song!

    k.... ....

That's my fav part. The insane feedback, harmonics and wammy action. Pure genius. Also, eddie's vibrato from these acid days, i affectionately call his, 'acid vibrato'. If you ever listen to eddie's acid guitar, on acid, you'll know what i mean. It's a spooky, unique vibrato has the feel of a trip, i which he seemed to only do when he was tripping acid. Lol i'm seriously considering doing a, 'understanding eddie hazel' video inspired by the 'understanding jimi hendrix' video since i am positive they will never make one about eddie, and I obsess over eddie's styles and can go into detail about what makes eddie special. Even his string bends have a unmistakable quality and beauty to them.

Not on this jam. This is the legendary Billy "Bass" Nelson! Bootsy was a funkster second to none, and he could rock too, but he didn't rock like Billy. Billy is a superb Rock bassist.

  58. B.... S....

Those last licks with the feedback, while the song fades out is freaking genius. His guitar sounds like a superhero named super stupid

  59. B.... S....

The most underrated guitarist in the history of american rock and metal. Eddie fucking hazel

    B.... S....

without question...why did GC not feature him more

    B.... S....

Brian Layton he def shouldve been a bigger star in the band, and gc couldve better emphasized him, but eddie seemed to battle his innerdemons and drug use, from what i understand. He shouldve just stuck with the acid and weed. Eddie should be as huge as hendrix, imo. People who know, know, but its not enough people who've heared of him smh

    B.... S....

    i agree

  60. J.... P....

Great musicians. Always loved this era of Funkadelic.
While the initial underground hip-hop gernre at tge end of tge 80s was great, the commercialisation that followed had a negative effect on black music.
Most younger black Brits I know dont get this music.
    Hip-hop reframed things very negatively.

  61. S.... L....

Been trying to hear this song for 40 years. Finally I'm able to download it. One of the greatest guitar riff of all time.

  62. 0.... h....

  63. B.... L....

ok, I'll say it...Eddie Hazel was better than Jimi Hendrix!

  64. s.... ....

One of the all time great rock groups though not thought of that way... Ed Hazel was phenomenal. Absolutely a peer if not an equal of Hendrix.

  65. F.... M....

Mother Earth is pregnant for the 3rd time, for y'all have knocked her up! The album cover is an Earth child crowning into the mind of the Universe...

why the hell does anyone put thumbs down on this

    O.... D....

Because they are dumb as hell Orlando, and wouldn't know a good song even if you hit them over the with an album.

    O.... D....

    Orlando Greenhill ...because they're IGNORANT!

    O.... D....

It's because they saw the name Funkadelic, and were expecting something like One Nation.

  76. D.... L....

    My new theme song.

  77. c.... e....

  78. f.... 4....

    EDDIE TIKI BILLY TAWL BERNIE

  79. R.... J....

this does not sound like anyone "but" Eddie Hazel. Hendrix could never play this way. No one can play this way. The sound...the tone....the approach....the selection of notes...the pattern/order of the notes....the style....this is "all" and "only" Eddie Hazel. My favorite guitarist!

    R.... J....

Robert Jones mine too. This song never ceases to amaze me

    R.... J....

They all were inspired by Jimi Hendrix...keep Funking!!! 😎🎸🤘

    R.... J....

I fully believe based on his Band of Gypsies 1969-1970 album, that had he lived, Jimi would certainly have brought the funk! Imagine a duet with Eddie!

    R.... J....

@remiem6070 band of gypsies was definitely funky, leading towards it. 100%

  93. K.... B....

    GET DOWN!

  94. R.... M....

91 racists think Eric Clapton is a better guitar player than Eddie Hazel

  95. j.... ....

This should have been a platinum album played on every Rock and Soul station in the country. Just sayin

    j.... ....

Funny you should say that jperryfan George Clinton was known to write some pretty interesting things on the inside of the album covers. One of the things he said was "If you bought one of these albums, buy another, as a matter of fact buy five more, because we need more than Weed Heads and Band X'ers buying our albums because we aren't rich yet.
