Frusciante, John - The Slaughter Lyrics
I'll know her face a mile away
You'll be there in the slaughter
Freeing me when I'm cornered
Being arrested by the mind cops
They're the only ones worth changing what you do for
I guide my fate
And what it's good for there's no telling
It's blood
It's a flood
I'll know here face a mile away
She'll take my straight through that gate
Living there in a flower
You wouldn't have made it whitout her
Though she seems to stay in one place
She grows whit you life
What's slow and fast at the same time
It comes to life
And if it dies
You'd never notice cuz it
It slides as it climbs
I'll know her face a mile away
And I'll know my pain's a life away

Flea rocking that Upright!!!!!!!!! Chad on drums!!!!! John doing everything else. Sorry Swan!!!!
John gracias por tanto
genius!
I love reading Fru fan comments on here...a powerful closer of a track, gotta love that synth. Still remains his album masterpiece
This is so beautiful it hurts!!
Omg my jesus 💕😱😍😍😍😍😍😍✨✨✨✨ 1:19 - 1:21 ... That shit was so sexy 😍😍😍😍😍🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💕😱
I'll know my pain's a life away
I just realized I've been listening to the acoustic version this whole time... I thought that was the original.
this album feels like the narrative to my life, and the slaughter is always the song that is playing during the loss and the resolution
The melody for that last "away" is magical. Three fucking celestial notes.
Why are you guys talking about auto tune or whatever, the fact is that this song is absolutely beautiful it makes me wanna cry
I know my Pain's a Life away...
te amo John :3 ☺😊😀
Flea on bass
I love it!
r u guys reaching the 4 dimension?
I'm inbetweed dimensions.
Dude I'm stuck here
Yes sir
Wet Air yes
This album is better than "By The Way" bullshit.
@Nikolai Megdanov
respect for radio music? this is better than By The Way, far better, fuckin fan boy .
AutomobileFunk In my opinion "By the way" is a good album and I see it like an "Experimental album" for the RHCP. The singles are ones of the best by the Chili Peppers, but there are very bad and tiresome songs... the bass riffs are simple, it's not a negative thing, but I prefer Flea in other albums.
As to "Shodows Collide With People", in my opinion is similar with "By The Way", I don't know why, but I notice this though the style and the genre are differents. I enjoyed with many songs like "The slaughter", "Every person", "Carvel", "Song to sing when I'm lonely", "Omission", "Time goes back", "Water" and "Wednesday's song". The acoustic versions are very great :), but "Curtains" is better. XD
AutomobileFunk i saw you in the comments section under To Record Only Water for Ten Days, and maybe under Niandra LaDes, and you just assume your thoughts as absolutely correct, while what the other people think is bullshit. this is terribly annoying. just calm down man.
Lol I've seen this dude around the comments too...dissing John and his music left and right which is fine it's an opinion, but then he's on like every video..what a confused little boy he is
You do realise that most of the creative input on that album was by John Frusciante?
And if it dies You'd never notice it cuz it slides as it climbs
I wish John would come back to this style of songs
@adam k He always Used the F-C-Dm Progression😂
Rob Warrior Always? I don’t think so somehow.
I want him to do what inspires him. Thats the only way for his art to stay as pure as it always is.
most eloquently put, and I also agree...John is a spring of creativity. his creative mind in combination with his nimble fingers and insane talent(s) the finished product is on a completely different universe. his music alone could cause World Peace!!! it's just always such a spiritual experience listening to any music he gets in on. even if he's just there, there's just such a presence from him. perhaps I think he is larger than life lol
J.J. & Jeff you can't stay in a place of life forever. it's impossible. life keeps on a Rollin whether we're on board with it or not. life ain't, slowin down or stoppin for anything or anybody or anyone. Either get on board with life or live in denial , but life will still truck on by. #nobrakes. #nopitstops
Great one
big love
3:10 there is just something so dreamy and hypnotizing in the ending, i think it's quiet synth in the back. Magic.
who cares about the auto tune. It's not like he can't sing. clearly he can
It's my favorite part of the song haha
Adhesive Loki well he does it in an obvious way so that he's not pretending that's his real voice, and also people know that he can sing anyways and don't care about it.
It's not auto tune it's Vocal synthesiser
Yeah not autotune. I think it's him running his voice into a vocoder, through a Mellotron/Mellotron synth doing a flute sound. He's well known for loving Mellotron sounds, and experimenting like crazy in the studio.
back vocal at the 3:01 is so catchy
She'll be there when we die taking us where souls await rebirth
The creative force of the universe...
I call that place Nirvana, thanks to Kurt.
And Buddha (or "Boddha").
love when that drum machine kicks in!
HopiateForThePeople yessssssss!
Actually I think Chad played drums on this whole album.
Either way its fuckin Beautiful!
I'll know deez nuts from a mile away
lol wtf
Its a God dam FLOOD!!!
Peter Gabriel - Here Comes the Flood
best song ever
wait! wth? i dont remember hearing the first 30 secs, is there a different version i may have heard besides the acoustic?
Pirate.
Theres an acoustic version around
I don't know, or understand why people have a problem with an autotune. Anything that sounds good is music, why should you care if it's autotune or a sound of two cats having sex upside down(i am not saying that this sounds good), or a wind moving branches of a tree, in my mind, if something sounds good it's music.
@Bea Jiménez I don't know... I don't care if someone can or can not sing. If I hear a beautiful sound it's music. And that's pretty subjective. You know, maybe some of the singers can't sing but they have beautiful melodies in their head and they use autotune to make their voice sound the way they hear it in their head. I'll probably get hate for this but, Kanye West is( or was) a great producer and musician and he uses autotune on his voice to get certain sounds, clearly everyone knows that he uses autotune, he isn't tricking anyone, he is just making music. I have a much bigger problem with things like singing just about money, chicks, cars, but I try not to be a hater. :D
@Ungrowing I totally agree, if the musician has good ideas it can be a helpful tool to make their music, the problem comes when they do it only for profit, I was referring to these kind of people, I should have written it lol
+Bea Jiménez I'm a little late, but it's not auto-tune. John altered his voice using a vocal synth.
+Raziel Díaz hey !! I wasn't sure about it being autotune, I wrote it in the first comment: "(not sure if thats autotune though)". Didn't know it was a vocal synth tho, thanks!!
I totally agree with you about Kanye, he might not have the best natural voice and not the best personality but he's a very tanlented musician
pristine
What did that comment say? I'm curious.
Pristine and beautiful. Thanks John.
You'll be there in the slaughter
No words to describe feelings
Emotions.
Same Here. As a die hard JF and RHCP fan I am falling in love with this record. Just started listening to it about a week ago and now it is playing basically nonstop in my car. It's a brilliant record!
Sublime.
No, a year-old post replier, i had a typo... i have many
Vocoding is basically more heavy autotuning. You people really don't like that word, do you?
what i don't get is, why it's took me 9 years to discover this album!!
It's frickin amazing!!
I agree it could be about a substance :)
this .. 100% this.
I don't, because John made this music to express himself and all these layers are part of his creative process.
Yeah I know what you mean, I love it too, but I do miss his guitar sounds :/ but who knows, he might release an acoustic version like he did with SCWP, but that's wishful thinking!
That shit grows on you man ... At the start I was like " What the fuck is this?" and then I found myself humming the songs like an hour later :p
"I’m releasing this acoustic version of the album because there was so much production on the record -- there's so much layering of different types of sound and things -- that I just thought it would be nice for some of the fans who prefer a more raw, stripped down sound. They will just hear the songs in their raw form." This just shows how much he cares for his fanbase. I love this guy. He knew that this wouldn't be for everyone, so he released it acoustic for the people who prefer it that way.
There is a version of this song entirely acoustic, just type slaughter acoustic, its a rare version, but very good, anyway, this version is just perfect, the acoustic is a version of this perfect piece of work, the entire ''fog'' thing around his basic skill is what makes so awesome in my opinion.
what do you think he is speaking of?:)
the guy is using TALKBOX....not an autotune...it takes skills to properly use a talkbox....thats the difference
.....have you heard The Empyrean..... His best album by far, highly produced and awesome. Plus he has plenty of acoustic stuff anyway, listen to Curtains if you want acoustic, or the acoustic version of this...
Flea played in this one!!
He if he played all his songs acoustically all the time, it would get really boring. part of johns style comes with messing around with effects, its part of why we love him!
Love this song by john now i clearly miss john in rhcp!!!!!!
not auto tune
*vocoder, and it's basically just an effect on his voice intended to make it sound really processed... they've been using them since the 70s
People complain when he does super produced work, people complain on his underproduced work, I love both :P depends on my mood
@EastTNSurvivalist Its not an auto-tune its a vacoder affect and it has only about 10 seconds of using it at the beginning
@Kozmikreeko31 i don't think that he's actually speaking about that.
This is about the only song that has Auto Tune in it that I actually like...
Sooooo difrent from chili peppers.....!!!!!
damn! what an artist, a true one in fact. This song always brings chills down my spine.
Rock on, John Frusciante!
oh, my god, the world's best song ever. for sure.
If I had to read Johns mind about what he was stating when he said, " all know her face a mile away." It hits me man, He will finally have found his love he has always been looking for. And He has tried to find her for so long that he will know her face a mile away. love you john.
Is someone seriously doubting John's vocal capacities ? Shame on you.
He sings the same line later in that song without any effect. He only used the vocoder for artistical reasons and it sounds pretty great if you want my opinion.
Vocoder takes musical skill to use, auto-tune makes up for some of your lack of skill
Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah . Just listen.
@KerryShaw845 Well said m8.
as commented, it's a vocoder, not autotune used on this track...and it's not all the way through which sort of proves that he can sing. As does all of his other music. The guy is a genius.
@IntuitiveMediums He is using a Vocoder not AutoTune
CLARIFICATION he is not using auto tone. He is using Vocoder. Where you play a synthesizer and speak into a mic to shape the form of the words using the notes. Its completely different.
dunkeykong
What is this fuss about the autotune? He is'nt using it because he can't sing, he is using it to create a very surreal and very john-ish vibe to the song.
who cares if autotune is used, this song is beautiful and john is an absolute gift to this world of many issues. at the end of any day, a good one or a bad one, i can always come back and listen to johns voice, his music and his soul
blew my mind
Where's that lovely 'shut up and enjoy the music' sign when you need it? :)
@moonlightfiasco so true. thats why all these rappers when 'autotuned' sound like fucked up aliens. they have to fuck with their voice so much just to get the pitch that they ruin everything else, it's played off as stylistic.
There is a brilliant way that he talks with music...
@devilangel27 He's using the effect as part of the music, he doesn't need correction in his voice... obviously. Plus it sounds cool as fuck.
Autotune, like everything (except mosquitoes), has its place. When used for emphasis or effect, it's perfectly fine- so long as it's not overdone.
at least it was before the autotune craze..... i guess it suits the song.
@devilangel27 auto tune??
I never thought john frusciante would use auto tune..
Cheers for putting these up, hope they stay here ;)
