@Mitch Reeter I agree with what you say but I also think its a bit more then that. He is incapable of writing a nice little love song because of "the oil slick coating the wings we've grown". I see this meaning the pain and suffering in their loves has hurt them and he doesn't know what to say to express his love because of the pain, "There goes a love song drifting out to sea. I'd sing along if I could hear over the oil slick". He then says "There is light but there's a tunnel to crawl through.There is love but it's misery loves you. We've still got hope so I think we'll be fine". He is trying to fix it with this little love song but it keeps getting depressed, "How predictable this is all you got. Yet another selfish signpost to my ruin of faults" He keeps failing to be happy and write a little love song and writes these depressing songs because thats all he knows. In saying "how predictable this is all you got" he is saying he keeps letting her down and he can't give her the love he wants to. I think its a bit more on the dark side then the funny side.

This is the best song of the last decade. In the context of their entire body of work, it is staggering. It represents such hope and growth and wisdom.

Seriously intelligent song writing. It's an incredible and succinct tour of the inside of a very busy mind.

and also it's one of their most self referential songs, it has a whole new meaning if you take in to consideration their entire discography, I especially love the line "only an idiot would swim through the shit I write"

Badass is not often a term used for Frightened Rabbit, but I think it applies to 1:12 for some reason.

I disagree...I feel this song is about when we attempt to lift up, praise or otherwise make our significant other feel good verbally, for some reason turns into critique and/or negativity for some unknown reason....usually circumstance that at the moment of wanting to praise, turns drastically usually due to our own inequities....

The lyrical content of this song is fantastic, and actually darkly funny. It's basically him saying "Hey, I tried to write you a nice, happy love song, but I accidentally wrote another really miserable, depressing song instead. Apparently that's all I know how to do. Whoops."

Which isn't to say I don't absolutely cherish Frightened Rabbit's many sad songs.

yeah this song is great. the final "chorus" (for lack of a better term) is amazing both lyrically and melody.
