Franks, Michael - The Dream Lyrics
I had this dream
In which I swam with dolphins
In open sea a transparent blue
(Maybe you dreamt it too)
And on the earth
The rain forests had not died
And the Amazon shined like an emerald
Somewhere, somehow, some way
We must hold back the dawn
While there's still time to try
Keep the faith, keep the dream alive
I had this dream
That we were all one family
(Maybe you dreamt it too)
Our family name
Was either Kindness or Compassion
We recognized each other
And we recognized the light inside us
Somewhere, somehow, some way
We must hold back the dawn
While there's still time to try
Keep the faith, keep the dream alive
Somewhere, somehow, some way
We must hold back the dawn
While there's still time to try
Keep the faith, keep the dream alive
Listen, the cry for freedom
Echoes from Red Square to Soweto town
The barricades are broken now
The walls are tumbling down
Somewhere, somehow, some way
We must hold back the dawn
While there's still time to try
Keep the faith, keep the dream alive
Somewhere, somehow, some way
We must hold back the dawn
While there's still time to try
Keep the faith, keep the dream alive
I woke up to find it was just a dream
Why must it only be just a dream?
I woke up to find it was just a dream
Why must it only be just a dream?
I woke up to find it was just a dream
Why must it only be just a dream?

What did he do to that dolphin?
Now more than ever, this beautiful dream needs to become a reality.

I know Jazz isn't for everybody, but this song would easily be appreciated by everyone if they play it on the air more often.
Keep the faith, keep the dream alive.
Why must it only be just a dream
always had a feeling he was singing about Heaven here
Qué guerra y hambre no podría deshacer
(Tal vez lo soñaste también)
Nuestro apellido

One of my all time favorites!
this is my feel good song for decades now
Love the guitar solo, but also the sax version. Great to have choices. Thanks to posters.

Nice dream
NEW WORLD ORDER
I've never heard this rendition.
Only heard the Yellow Jackets "Live Wires" version with Michael Franks....cool!
Thanks for posting
If only more people had this dream we would have a better world.
if Ned Flanders made music even he would think this shit was gay
Steve Khan's guitar solo is awesome.
This is one of the most imaginative (though sometimes enigmatic) artists I've ever heard. This cat never gets his props, but his body of work dates back to the 70s and he's still kicking out great music. This is great rainy day music, or the perfect tunes for a long road trip, especially if you like singing along.
Unbelievable,and then some.
Great song! Thanks for posting it. 😃
Michaels "dream" really beautiful & it really a pity its only a dream
