Franklin, Aretha - Walk Softly Lyrics

Walk softly when you walk by me
'Cause my heart is still, don't shake it up
Now that I've cried my love to sleep
Don't wake it up, don't wake it up
Now that I've cried my love to sleep
Don't wake it up, don't wake it up (don't wake it up, don't wake it up, don't wake it up)

If I seem distant or reserved when we meet
Don't take the time to ask me why
'Cause it's bad enough that I've lost you, baby
Don't make it rough, just say hello and then tell me goodbye

Walk softly when you walk by me
'Cause my heart is still, don't shake it up
Now that I've cried my love to sleep
Don't wake it up, don't wake it up
Now that I've cried my love to sleep
Don't wake it up, don't wake it up (don't wake it up, don't wake it up, don't wake it up)

I fall apart each time that we meet
Remembering things that I should forget
My love's a spark but it could burst into flames
'Cause I'm not over you again, no

And walk softly when you move by me baby
'Cause my heart is still, don't you shake it up
Now that I've cried my love to sleep
Don't wake it up, don't wake it up, don't wake it up
Oh, now that I've cried my love to sleep
Don't wake it up, don't wake it up, don't wake it up

Ooh, now that I've cried my love to sleep
Don't wake it up, don't wake it up, baby, don't wake it up
Now that I've cried my love to sleep
Don't wake it up, let it late, baby, don't wake it up
Be charm baby, now that I've cried my love to sleep
Don't wake it up, don't wake it up, eh, don't wake it up

Please, baby, now that I've cried my love to sleep, let it late
Don't wake it up, don't wake it up, don't wake it up, don't wake it up
Now that I've cried my love to sleep

Aretha’s version is beautifully sung, but Gladys knights version is a little bit softer. I just love the way she sings it. But both are great.i enjoy both Artist. They are and always will be 🙏🏾🎼🎵🎶🎤🎤👠👠🎹❤️❤️the Queen and the Empress of Soul. I really don’t like to compare them, because I like them both.

Marlena Shaw made this in 1977. But of course, Ree's version is better! No offense to anyone. Just my opinion.

I listened to both versions, the Queen and Mrs. Knight, I love both of them. The Queen's voice just touch my soul. I love her version, I like Mrs. Knight version. I love both of these ladies though. ❤❤

Lean On Me, which was also recorded by the wonderful Jean Carn, Melba Moore and Vivian Reed, was also composed by Van McCoy in partnership with Joe Cobb.

  13. Z.... b....

Excuse me, but the correct thing is that the wonderful backing vocals are from Brenda Bryant, Cissy Houston, Margareth Branch and Pam Vincent.

  14. Z.... b....

The backing vocals with Cissy Houston are powerful and heavenly!

    Z.... b....

Zaqueu borges leal silva it’s a shame that Cissy Houston never get the credit that she deserved...

This is one of my favorite songs from Aretha: feeling, interpretation, love to do, arrangement. All under the direction of Mr. Van McCoy. Interestingly, Aretha's best songs, arrangements and interpretations were under the direction and composition of these two masters of music: Chuck Jackson (Search On (1981), United Together (1980) and You (1975)) and Van McCoy (Sweet Bitter Love and Remember Me (early sixties), Walk Softly (1975) and You Brought Me Back To Life Again (1979).

They are chirping those backgrounds. lol. I love it.

My FAVORITE version of this song is my MARLENA SHAW, from her 1977 album "Sweet Beginnings," featuring her hit songs, "Yu-Ma/Go Away Little Boy" and "Pictures And memories."

there's no comparison to the song Aretha Franklin is clearly the best, Gladys Knight is a good singer but she doesn't have that certain UMP

  21. G.... A....

This version is nice & I also like Gladys Knight's version too.

  22. A.... L....

What a voice, sounds like angels singing.

    A.... L....

    Perfect description angelic.....

  23. M.... N....

listening to Aretha in her prime is ecstasy

  24. t.... ....

Marlena and her friend The Queen of Soul both break my heart on this song.

  25. s.... r....

Ms Shaw or Ms knights versions don't even come close to Arethas.. Ms franklins beautiful version is light years better!

  26. s.... r....

    Beautiful

  27. E.... O....

Like fine wine, you only just to taste, this, all you need to do is listen.

  28. M.... ....

    I Love Gladys Knight version

  29. M.... ....

I Love Gladys Knights version more

Malcolmromeo oh most definently!!! i aint tryin to take nothing from lady aretha!! but glady's version is just untouchable.
i mean, both singers had songs which they outright just owned!! and this one just happend to belong to glady's hands down.
once again, not tryin to disrespect queen aretha at all!!

    M.... ....

Glady's all the way, the emotions she evoked was just amazing.

  30. P.... L....

    Beg to differ.... go Aretha!!!

  31. p.... ....

Just did and I have to agree which is hard for me to say as I am a diehard Aretha fan. Then again, I have huge respect for Gladys Knight and her vocal delivery. There are actually some similarities in their phrasing at times, the difference being Aretha's range and perhaps power. They are both stone-cold soul singers who grew up in church. That is certainly evident in Aretha's style but Gladys is right there for me. I think some sleep on Gladys because she doesn't have as wide a range.

    p.... ....

Marlene and the Waters" version is the only one beside Re's that moves me. Gladys and the Pips later version with that phoned in spoken intro and Vegas arrangement ruins the vibe. Coasting. Aretha is sobbin and Marlena is tellin her story.

    p.... ....

    Gladys voice is weak

  32. m.... ....

The version of Gladys Knight is unique and perfect!

  33. r.... ....

Dammm...this one brings back a lot of old feelings.

  34. M.... M....

One of my fav. Hard to find this song. I had the album

  35. k.... ....

My best female voice but Gladys perfected this song betta.

  36. 1.... ....

I adore Aretha, she is unquestionably a legend and I have almost all her work. This is a beautiful song, yet........ When I compare this version to Gladys Knight's later interpretation in 1977, I have to conclude that Gladys's softer, subtler rendition is the more poignant. Normally, Aretha's soaring passion holds me immediately, but I think Gladys got it right with this one. Give Gladys a listen, and make up your own mind.

  37. m.... ....

    Wikkkidddddddddddddd Selection.
