Franklin, Aretha - Rescue Me Lyrics

Rescue me
Oh take me in your arms
Rescue me
I want your tender charms
'Coz I'm lonely and I'm blue
I need you and your love too

Come on and rescue me
Come on baby and rescue me
Come on baby and rescue me
'Coz I need you, by my side
Can't you see that I'm lonely
Rescue me

Come on and take my heart
Take your love and conquer every part
'Coz I'm lonely and I'm blue
I need you and your love too

Come on and rescue me
Come on baby and rescue me
Come on baby and rescue me
'Coz I need you by my side
Can't you see that I'm lonely

Rescue me
Oh take me in your arms
Rescue me
I want your tender charms
'Coz I'm lonely and I'm blue
I need you and your love too
Come on and rescue me
Come on baby, take me baby, hold me baby, love me baby
Can't you see that I need you baby
Can't you see that I'm lonely
Rescue me

Come on and take my hand
Come on baby and be my man
'cause I love you 'cause I want you
Can't you see that I'm lonely?
take me baby
love me baby
need me baby
Can't you see that I'm lonely?

rescue me, rescue me.......

  27. E.... M....

This is a really good song. I wonder if the guitar parts are hard to learn.

  28. c.... ....

For the longest time I thought this was sung by Aretha Franklin. That's not to knock Fontella of course. What a voice!

  29. T.... F....

I remember the DJs in Miami used to pronounce her name as "Fontella Base" when they'd introduce this song, so I assumed Fontella Bass was the group's name, not the name of the woman singing. Maybe it was because of the strong bass lead-in and close out to this song. Just a coincidence, i guess.

    Rescue me
Oh take me in your arms
    Rescue me
    I want your tender charms
Cause i'm lonely and i'm blue
I need you and your love too

    [Chorus]
    Come on and rescue me
Come on baby and rescue me
Come on baby and rescue me
Cause i need you, by my side
Can't you see that i'm lonely
    Rescue me

    [Verse 2]
Come on and take my heart
Take your love and conquer every part
Cause i'm lonely and i'm blue
I need you and your love too

    [Chorus]

    [Verse 3]
    Rescue me
Oh take me in your arms
    Rescue me
    I want your tender charms
Cause i'm lonely and i'm blue
I need you and your love too
    Come on and rescue me
Come on baby, take me baby, hold me baby, love me baby
Can't you see that i need you baby
Can't you see that i'm lonely
    Rescue me

    [Outro]
Come on and take my hand
Come on baby and be my man
Cause i love you 'cause i want you
Can't you see that i'm lonely?
    Take me baby
    Love me baby
    Need me baby
Can't you see that i'm lonely?

  61. Y.... M....

This song was released nine years before I was born. I absolutely love ❤️ it! Like numerous others I thought it was Aretha when I first heard the song years ago. Unfortunately quality music is a thing of the past. Those artists who still put their all into their music are ignored you the tone deaf masses!

  62. G.... R....

    An unappreciated star.

  63. S.... H....

The best of times and the great tunes captured the moments. Super vocal, great arrangement, and the bass riff that lives in my mind forever. Just a giant WOW !!

THIS WEEK IN MUSIC HISTORY: October 2, 1965 - 53 Years Ago Today: Fontella Bass debuted at No. 76 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart with her single, "Rescue Me.” This Raynard Miner/Carl Smith-penned song was the R&B vocalist's 3rd chart entry and it became her 2nd Top 40 and first and only Top Ten when it peaked at No. 4 on November 20, 1965. The single also enjoyed a 4-week run at No. 1 on the Billboard R&B Chart. Bass was supposedly was a co-writer on this his but there was a dispute on that subject and she went uncredited. [10/06/2018]

  78. D.... G....

Fue una de mis favoritas, predilectas, durante mis años de mocedad. thank you.

  79. R.... C....

If there is one collective title to describe this track and others by Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Sonny Boy williamson, Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters & Little Walter it is "Chess Masterpieces".

  80. f.... c....

I don't think this song will every fade away because it's in films and every where and its just a classy song

  91. L.... 4....

    #THECLASSICS (-_-) NOURISHMENT FOR THE SOUL! !!!

  92. G.... A....

I don't really get the Aretha confusion. I guess a casual listen might conjure up Aretha, but the more I listen to this song the less alike Fontella Aretha sound. Funny that Fontella was doing the "Aretha thing" 2 years before Aretha herself would do it. Yes, I know Aretha was recording during most of the 60s prior to Atlantic, but at the time of "Rescue Me", Aretha was doing mellow jazz-pop. If anything, I wonder if Aretha was listening to Fontella & was influenced by her. To make matters more confusing, Aretha recorded a song called "Save Me" on her 2nd Atlantic album. In the early 90s things came full circle when Aretha sang "Rescue Me" for a Pizza Hut commercial. One more comment & I promise I'll shut up... "Rescue Me" by Fontella Bass sounds a bit like what might have resulted from Aretha recording for Motown.

    G.... A....

What a learned and intriguing observation.

  93. C.... ....

When women were women and blacks were less violent.

  94. D.... J....

one of the BEST bass lines EVER!

  95. M.... ....

classic oldie! one of the very BEST
    RIP Fontella Bass

  96. I.... m....

Wow she sounds a lot like Aretha
