Franklin, Aretha - Good To Me As I Am To You Lyrics
If you had a dollar
And I had a dime
I wonder, could I borrow yours
As easy as you could mine?
And I give time after time
And turn around to find me no returns
Then, my friend, you've used my dimes
If there's water in the pitcher
And we both need a drink
To stay alive, my darling
I'd need less water than you'd think
My love, my love, these things, I swear, I say are true
Oh, yeah
Listen to this
Some people want
But they don't wanna give
They can do all of the wrong in the world
And got the nerve to not understand the meaning of loving me
Starting today
Tomorrow and forevermore
If you can't find it in your heart to do for me
Then, baby, just don't darken my front door
Baby
I want you to be as good to me as I am to you
Whoo, baby
I don't think that's asking you too much to do
Listen
Don't you walk around here
Feeling like you can treat me any ol' way
Using my love, my time, my heart
Day, day after day
Oh baby, baby
Be as good to me as I am to you
Whoo, whoo
Baby

Franklin, Aretha Good To Me As I Am To You Comments
Clapton doc brought me here, but GAHTT DAYYYUMMM RETHA!!! 😮❤️👑
It's not even as if this is a particularly great song - it's just that Aretha Franklin and her incomparable voice elevates the record into the realms of brilliance.
I disagree. Everything about this song is great. From the words to the meaning, the musicianship and of course the lead vocals without backing! Incredible!
GO HEAD GIRL❤️❤️❤️😓😓😓
Nobody could sing with her in her prime. U heard that Patti
OMG ! ! ! !
ARETHA ! ! ! ! ! !
I would give my left hand to play my guitar with her. Isn't that ironic?
The queen at her bluesy best.
goosebumps all over ...for ever the Queen of Soul!!!
Nobody and I mean No mother fucking body will ever sing like Aretha. Beyond perfection, GOD can't sing like that.
The Lady Soul album.of 1968, in my opinion is the best album of her career, I have followed Aretha all of my life. I am 53 now. Good house work music.
SHE HAS ABOUT 42 _44 ALBUMS
She's the goddess of Soul , she sang Jazz , soulmusic , rhythm and Blues , gospel , choir , she touch me since i was born 50 years ago
you are right it was Eric Clapton on (overdubbed in New York) guitar on this one but Tommy Cogbill takes over from Clapton on the last verse.
A great blues by the queen of soul , featuring Eric Clapton on guitar.😊
"Don't give me flowers when I'm dead. Give me mine while I'm living". Something my Grandmother used to say. Like her, Queen Aretha sounds better n is better appreciated than when she was younger...

The first time I listen to this song, simply amazing, both Aretha and Calpton. Love it!
Her range though!!!!!
You better sang that song!! Aretha and the Piano is like drinking water in dry land. Simply refreshing.
Lol Eric is playing so shy. You can tell he was nervous recording this
LAWD could this woman sang!!
Yessssssssssssssssssss Aretha !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this is one GREAT album like so many of hers and other amazing song is Ain't No Way. Love you my Queen!!!!!!
Clapton and Aretha kill it on this one....
Classic
THIS IS A GREAT SONG WHEN IT COMES TO DEALING WITH LOVE ONES AND FAMILY BECAUSE MOST OF THE TIME IT', S ONE SIDED( YOU GIVE BUT THEY DON'T WANT TO GIVE)
LONG LIVE THE QUEEN
My first time hearing this cut. Stunning.
I ain't saying this is the best Aretha song, but has she ever made one better than this??? Just an absolute vocal tour de force! Every element of her artistry is on full display and this song leaves no doubts, questions or second guessing. Just an incredible performance by everyone involved. But Aretha was the straw that stirred the drink!!
According to the book Respect by David Ritz (a very interesting read by the way) Eric Clapton was so intimidated by the sheer power of Aretha's voice that he had to come back the next day to lay down his guitar part! And apparently he wasn't the only one who was shook in the studio with Aretha.. I will stop just short of saying this is her best song but I will say this unequivocally: she was at her absolute peak on this tune, and it's my favorite song by her, which is saying a mouthful.
U have 2 feel it
Aretha. Queen of Soul?? Neh just QUEEN.. PERIOD
Aretha's runs on this record are cold!
The voice and guitar, omg
a icon.
Twenty-five tone deaf people. How can ANYONE thumb this down????
DAMNNNNN!!!! GOD! THAT WOMAN! THAT VOICE!! THE QUEEN!! THERE MUST BE A WORD GREATER THAN LEGEND, BECAUSE SHE IS BEYOND THAT!!
Porque te la llevaste Dios, puro sentimiento en ese voz.
Aretha is dynamite here, bringing So much to the table. Still, EC is under mixed. I get: It's not his show, but why bring him in this Historic, yes historic, recording - only to under mix? This should be re-mixed.....
Her best!!!
There Will NEVER BE ANOTHER. LADY SOUL. SHE HAS MANY FIRST'S...60 YEARS OF CONTRIBUTION'S. TOP THAT...IN THE WORD'S OF ARETHA.. "AIN'T NO WAY "

I altered this so I could hear Eric's guitar a little better.

This song has been on repeat all day. Musicianship at its finest, all around.
Drae M- I still blast this on fine vinyl with a fine player....f'n incredible!
I "discovered" this song 3 years ago and I, literally, played this song every single day for 3 months straight! This song haunted me and raised my already super high vocal standards to near impossible levels. I won't say it's her best song but it's definitely my favorite Aretha song, which is really saying a lot..

Its nice to read a comment from someone who knows the details. Thank you for the music Aretha Franklin...nice job E.C.
an added detail to this story is that Eric Clapton was so intimidated and shook by the sheer power of Arertha's voice that he had to come back the next day and lay down his guitar track. this from the author David Ritz on a biography he did about Aretha called respect.
one word SUPER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Be as good 2 me as I've always been 2 u. This gives me chills.
My Soul NEEDED this, Thank You
Who would hate this song? There is so much soul in this one song that a single listen can make anyone that much of a better human being.
To the fourteen people who downed this, I can understand perhaps a preference for a different style of music. However, I cannot understand haw anyone could deny the powerful, soulful majestic voice of Aretha. This is possibly the bar for all female singer strive. I myself do not like the music Christina Aguilera sings, but I cannot deny her voices passion and strength. Nor should any deny that of Aretha or the others who have fantastic voices. I am sure that your favorite activities are sparked by someone who does them well, there are a mass amount of singers who would view Aretha in the same way.
Honestly, I'd like to speak with each of these people to figure out what could possibly motivate someone to dislike something as perfect as this performance. It's a fascinatingly inept judgment.
Vintage Aretha! My type of music.
This recording is undoubtedly in my top 5 of Aretha's greatest performances on wax!
I concur.. An absolutely brilliant tune and she sang the mess outta this song..
3:00 jesus
Here i am somewhere in India, listening, nah i have my eyes closed, and body and soul swinging to this marvelous music, getting rid of all thr things that weigh me down. Sweat dripping down, tears too. But hey my soul is smiling and the world doesn't seem that bad of a place to be in ;
