Frankie Valli - Native New Yorker Lyrics
New York girl, oh, oh, oh
Runnin' pretty, New York City girl
25, 35, hello, baby
New York City girl
You grew up ridin' the subways, running with people
Up in Harlem, down on Broadway
You're no tramp, but you're no lady
Talkin' that street talk
You're the heart and soul of New York City
And love
Love is just a passing word
It's the thought that you had
In a taxicab that got left on the curb
Oh, oh, oh (oh, oh, oh)
You're a native New Yorker
You should know the score by now (You should know by now)
You're a native New Yorker
New York girl, oh, oh, oh
Music plays, everyone's dancin' closer and closer
Makin' friends and findin' lovers
There you are, lost in the shadows
Searchin' for someone (Searchin' for someone)
To set you free from New York City
And, whoa
Where did all those yesterdays go?
When you still believed
Love could really be like a Broadway show
You were the star, when did it close?
Oh, oh, oh (oh, oh, oh)
You're a native New Yorker
No one opens the door
For a native New Yorker
(Runnin' pretty, New York City girl)
Oh, oh, oh
Native, native, native, oh
Where did all those yesterdays go?
When you still believed
Love could really be like a Broadway show
You were the star
You're a native New Yorker
You should know the score by now
You're a native New Yorker
You should know the score
You should know the score by now
You're a native New Yorker
Oh, oh, oh
(Native, native, native, native New Yorker)
You're a native New Yorker
Whoa, oh-oh-oh
You're a native New Yorker
You should know the score
(Native, native, native, native New Yorker)
You're a native New Yorker
What you waitin' for?
No one opens the door
(You're a native New Yorker)

Frankie Valli Native New Yorker Comments
I want Frankie Valli to sing for the Donald in the 2020 republican party convention.
Odyssey does it for me, with all my respect to Frankies version too commercial sounding ...but the odyssey ladies give it a very special feeling.
I had no idea that Valli did this first. Both versions are in my Seasons playlist. Thanks for the upload!
Esther Phillips'
and Odyssey's
Versions are better.
最高!!٩(ˊᗜˋ*)و
That track done him no justice at all, the orchestra out powered him though and though draining his weak voice.
I'm surprised that Odyssey wasn't the originator of this song.
Love this version. Also love odyssey which is still my jam.
Preferred performers of this classic song: 1. Odyssey 2. Esther Phillips 3. Frankie Valli.
not that many people know but odyssey girls parents are puerto rican.the two girls were born in im not sure if yonkers or penn but i love the way the sing, when Frankie made this song they did not waited any time in recording it in that same year.
A quick note. Most people like the first version of song that they hear. So everyone likes oddyseys version. But I heard this first, so I like them both equally
I like all three versions but Odyssey's is a little more funkier disco than Frankie's his is more pop disco Esther phillips version is good too her arrangement is different then theirs but after a while his version starts to grow on you but in all Odyssey's is the best
I love Frankie! He did a great job. I can hear his heart here! But Odyssey gave this song a real New York feeling! Lillian Lopez sang it with such a beautiful touch!
ODESSY IS WAY WAY BETTER. MOR BEAT. MORE FUNKY. FRANKIE. ARE YOU SURE YOU GOT THIS FIRST. CAUSE YOU KNOW HOW YALL LIKE TO DO. ODESSY FOREVER
I'm sorry, but the remake from Odyssey sounds a lot better..

Does it always have to be a competition, Mr. & Ms. America? For God's sake, it's a fabulous song and both Odyssey and Frankie do it justice in all it's poignancy. It's the authenticity of the artist that counts. And it rings true in both.
Odyssey's version is better, but this is still fantastic!!!!
Wow, even Frankie Valli was part of that 1970s androginy/glam rock style of look.
I know, right?! He's rocking some serious blusher and lip gloss here!
Odyssey's version was better but that's not to take anything away from Valli
No discussion of what is a better version...just enjoy the genius of Frankie Valli!
This song is about loving New York City but being cynical about finding love in New York City. A singer who can emote these two emotions while singing it will nail the song. The Odyssey lead singer and Franki Valli did nail it. Did Sinatra ever cover this song?
not bad, " you can see the bandstand dancers dancing to the record on Youtube "American Bandstand 1970's dancer 24 part 2".
This ain't bad , but he can keep it.No disrespect, but naw.Original or not!
I love this version too!! Respect Frankie Valli!
forza italia , mulberry street , gambino , bonano , lucchese , and tony soprano of course
good, but prefer Odyssey s version
This is the original , followed by Oddysey in 1977 and then Esther Phillips in 1978 . Was orginally written by Sandy Linzer and Danny Randell for Frankie Valli and the four seasons . Most people think the original is Esther Phillips , but I personally think her version is the best
Linzer-Randell wrote so many cogent songs for Valli and The Seasons.
I thought Oddessy were the original singers of this song. This isn't very good to me. I love Oddessy's version of this song.
Awesome song
Esther Phillips version is great.
Francesco Francis castellucio
good song
Love Odyssey's version better , but Frankie still rocked it.
Precious Baby Doll 😊✨✨✨🎶🎤
Never knew this was the original. Listening for first time now
Native New Yorker here!!!
FRANKIE VALLI,AMERICAN MUSIC ICON,82 YEARS YOUNG,DOING 100 GIGS A YEAR.THE LITTLE MAN WITH THE BIG VOICE!
Have listened all my life, thank you Frankie and thanks to the rest of you lot. Well done! :-)
Saw him years ago when I lived in the Washington DC area when he sang at Celebrate Fairfax. Same old Frankie. Still have the pipes. Every note he sang was clear as a bell. Very friendly and down-to-Earth. Hard to believe he has been in show business all these years and never changed a bit. Hope he keeps singing as long as he can.
así es yo lo amo saludos desde Mexico
Never knew he made this first ..... nice.
his was not the first version of this.....i don't know the original, but Ester Phillips did it before he did it......
lepoetress me either.
I never knew that either
@Gregory Hill Frankie did the original. Linzer-Randell wrote countless songs for him.
@Gregory Hill Valli's was the original, FYI.
New York for ever
+movie great city,great people
This Native NY-er liked this version, too. I just read how this song, which was written by two 4 Seasons's hit writers, was part of Broadway's "Jersey Boys". When Frankie sang this in the play, the lyrics for "Broadway Show" were changed to "Jersey Boys' Show."
Why did they make Male performers wear womens make up? Dude looks like a drag queen.
+FANBOY FRESH FUNNY.THEY GOT THE MESSAGE,IN VALLIS FOLLOW UP LP,HEAVEN ABOVE ME,NO MAKE UP AT ALL.NEVER GOT WHY THEY WENT SO HEAVY WITH THIS,VALLI HAD TO HAVE SEEN THE PROPOSED COVER,SHOULD A SAID SOMETHING
Well, the 70s when rock stars were wearing make up. It's the androdynous look at the time.
VALLIS WORST ALBUM COVER.whoever did it should be electrocuted, slowly.
@The Four Seasons
LMBO!
@rohli estrada and Valli was very touchy about his age.the4 seasons, with the exception of Gaudio were at least 9 years older than ,sat the Beach Boys the Beatles ect.
odyssey ,..is by far THE BEST !!
+Culture Mix there is a odyssey-valli mix that djs used in the discos that was pretty good
would give my left nut to hear that mix !!!!!
truth is dont know if it was a recording,or he was using 2 tables.not sure
Yo WHAT!!!!!!!!
@Singh Jobim Just the left one?
I thought that was the original but the original is for odyssey
No, Frankie Valli made this first.
This is the original. Odyssey was a cover of this
I did not know Frankie Valli sang "Native New Yorker." I'm going to his Austin, TX concert on Aug 11 and if he can hear me, I will give out a shout from this transplanted Jersey Boy to sing Native New Yorker.
4/17/16
Did FV sing it for you? :-)
Odysseys version is better,Frankie sounds like he needs to blow his nose.
+Mark Miller stupid comment by a stupid person
@The Four Seasons The truth hurts and he really does suck, you must need your hearing checked.
@Mark Miller the nose stuffed statement is stupid because it is his normal tenor singing style, your just a dizzy disco queen no doubt, who knows nothing about this timeless music icon.
@The Four Seasons Past the tissues please.
Very beautiful!
Odyssey is better
I actually love Odyssey's version better, BUT...If Frankie's version had been released first and got a lot of airplay and in the discoteques like Odyssey, I'm sure I would've loved Frankie's version better. I suppose whomever was the original artist will be liked the most. But, I love BOTH versions!
Frankie Valli's was released first, Odyssey remade it later the same year.
+Todd Ramsey YOUR CORRECT TODD
The production sounds almost identical!
His version was released first, but flopped
As a transplanted Native New Yorker, this song reminds me of home
FRANKIE ESTA MUY BIEN, PERO LA VERSIÓN DE ODYSSEY ESTÁ """SUUUPER"""
ODYSSEY ALL THE WAY..... ALL THE WAY....BUT FRANKIE IS STILL THE MAN (RESPECT DUE)
Taking nothing away from Frankie...i"m a big fan but i like Odyssey's version better.
@Dexter Haven Was it Toni's sisters? I was a little shocked at how many people blame TONI for their breakup, instead of thinking, "She was good to stay with such a cold-hearted person for so long". People are quick to criticize, when they don't REALLY know what happened exactly.
@Dirty Harry Indeed. Frankie and the Seasons never really had any support from their various record companies - Philips, MoWest, etc. - at this time; but I too prefer Odyssey.
You betcha!
@Dexter Haven Boz Scaggs wrote and first performed, "We're All Alone" Just FYI
@Mark Beames I know. I remember when his album came out. That's why I wrote that it was his song... She really covered it well, though, I thought. One of the best covers ever.
Wow, he sounded great. This presents kind of a puzzle to me. I had always believed that Frankie wasn't given the entire "Oh What a Night" vocal because he no longer had the range. But this song proves his voice was still solidly hitting the high notes in those years. With all due respect to Gerry Polci, I would have loved to hear Frankie do the whole lead vocal on Oh What a Night (December 1963). I bet it would have been incredible.
The Four Seasons were a seporate act with December 1963. Frankie Valli was on his own here!!!! That's the reason Gerry Polci, and Don Ciccone were doing lead Vocals!!!! THEY WERE the VOICES of, THE FOUR SEASONS!!!!! get your asses out of the jersey boys movie!!!!!!! Go to youtube!!!! You will see them there!!!!!!
I was always disturbed by this period. The Polci-Valli mix works well in Dec. '63, but I can never really accept this incarnation of the group as the Four Seasons.
Sorry, nobody beats the genius Fanki Valli!....ever!
Except in this case , Odyssey, obviously
ODYSSEY IS BETTER AND BETTER, SIMPLY
What a voice! Franki...you are the master! I love every song you do, as you make them uniquely ours!
Not this one are you freaking kidding me?
Good song, bad cover, he looks awful with all that makeup on!!
+Nicole Miller VALLI RECORDED IT FIRST,TERRIBLE ALBUM JACKET,VALLI ACTUALLY HATES ITTHE ALBUM COVER THAT IS.
It is NOT a cover. This is the original recording. Odyssey's was second.
wasnt Esther Williams first back in 1968?
nicolle you are so stupid , what is your secret ?
muchas gracias me canse de buscar esta pieza mil gracias
i love this music..both version odyssey and franki valli....
david your off your rocker teh arangement is almost identical and HE did it first
A New Jersey boy like Frankie had to have had a problem with whoever decided to put him on that album cover with all that makeup on. I bet he had a freaking fit !
Valli and The Four Seasons rarely seemed to have any support understanding or collaboration from their various record companies.
yeah im 44 and never heard of his version, its nice but prefer odyssey as well.
I just learned he sang this as well today
Love all the versions, but Esther Phillips is still my fave
Not bad at all and Frankie is amazing on these vocals and it would have been nice to see Frankie and Odyssey sing this song together at that time. This was pretty amazing but Odyssey just made it look easy and Frankie made it possible for a dude to sing the song.
It was written for Frankie and some how the two Bob's{ Crewe and Gaudio}missed it!
RIP Lillian Lopez.. Actual singer of Native New Yorker from Odyssey.
Liza Minnelis New York, New York came out before Frank Sinatra and no question he did that song better as well.
As usual a great song by Frankie Valli. Not as good as Odyssey's, but almost.
sadly still are cocothe
Love the album cover. Back when EVERYBODY was trying to look like Lily Tomlin.
This Suprised me this was released 6 months before Odyssey
I'm a huge fan of Esther Phillips, but nothing can top Odyssey's version, I totally agree. The Lopez sisters and that song were made for each other.
for the ones who debates between Odyssey and Frankie valli you should listen the version from Esther Phillips.
I dig on Frankie Valli. Nontheless, prefer Odessey's version.
One of my favourite songs EVER. Odessy may be better , but thanks for a new post. It's just so nice to here this song sung by someone else.
Thanks for posting! but Sorry, but Odyssey did it so much better as a disco dance classic
Love Valli, does it like a broadway show routine
GROWING UP IN NEW YORK, MAKES THIS SONG SOUND LIKE IT WAS MADE FOR ME! PAX VIA MUSIC...VIVA MARIA!
