Frank Zappa - Go Cry On Somebody Else's Shoulder Lyrics
A year ago today
Was when you went away
But now you come back knockin' on my door
And you say you're back to stay,
But I say...
On somebody else's shoulder
I'm somewhat wiser now
And one whole year older
I sure don't need you now
And I don't love you
Anymore
You cheated me baby,
And told some dirty lies about me
Fooled around with all those other guys
I sure don't need you now
And I don't love you
Anymore
A year ago today
You went away
And now you come back crying
Crying, crying: please, let me in
But I don't need you
No I don't love you anymore
So go lean on...go cry on
Somebody else's door
Go cry
On somebody else's shoulder
I'm somewhat wiser now
And one whole year older
I sure don't need you now
And I don't love you
Anymore (Oh, my darling!)
[Spoken:]
Go ahead and cry
Go ahead and let the tears fall outa your eye
Let 'em fall on your dress
Who cares if it makes a mess?
I gave you my high school ring
At the root beer stand
We had a teen-age love baby
I thought it was sharp
It was really so grand...but
You cheated me baby
And told some dirty lies about me
Fooled around with all those other guys
That's why I had to get my khakis pressed
I sure don't need you now
And I don't love you
Anymore
[Spoken:]
Baby, I love you so much, darling
Why don't you dig me?
I dig you
But you don't dig me
I don't understand what it is
I had my car re-upholstered
I got my hair processed
I got a nice pompadour job on it
I bought a new pair of shoes
I got some new khakis and I met you
And we went out to get a Coca-Cola...

Get the freak out of here.
He's really underrated as a comedian... the musical ability also gives him some amazing comedic timing.
that's why I had to get my khakis pressed!
I thought it was charp, but it was really grand..lol
In one interview Frank claimed he hated do-wop but obviously he got a kick out of parodying it every chance he could...I love it!
If this was recorded at Motown, it would have been the biggest hit of the year!!
I just wanna knife somebody up REAL GOOD and then go croon wit meh boyz in the alley.
Check out my tribute and replica of this fun song: https://youtu.be/_P5Pq0y4Ot0

My favourite. Classic Zappa teasin' you with that beautiful Ray Collins vocal at 1'20"......gave up explaining this track to girlfriends years ago....
There is something really special about this album
Esta melodia la bailaria en el cielo ♡
Fun to listen to, but seriously, it could be said that this is a bunch of white guys sending up black music. Of course, maybe Frank had some black musicians on the band for this record.
Its more of a send up of bands in East LA, who are Hispanic

Zappa loved doo-wop music which is no secret.
can't help but squeeze out a tiny little droplet
I fixed the seat so it would tilt back. Somehow left out of this track.
Zappa was such a comedian
OMG, the band! They're crazier than him. Those background vocals....I'm dying here. Dweezil's band is like that, too!
have you not heard doo wop?
@Lmclean89 What are you talking about? Of course I've heard doo wop. I don't understand your question.
Love this song...I am in a social network place called Second Life we were having a 50's party and I told my boyfriend the DJ to check out some of Zappa's Doo Wop this is one of my favorites lol Thank you for down loading it...this is my fav version that he did ;)

I LOVE LSD
Now I 100% know for sure where Mike Patton gets his style from, holy shit!! Have you heard a Mr Bungle album? They're the Beach Boys crossed over w/Frank Zappa!
Matthew White mr. Bungle kicks ass
I GAVE YOU MY CLASS RING FROM HIGH SCHOOL
AT THE ROOT BEER STAND
That's why I had to get my khakis pressed!
I still don't know what that means .__. Anyone?
Al Pa when a young latino in southern california would get his khakis pressed it meant he was putting on the 9’s. going all out to look his best.
Una buena cancion Doo Wop, de las que habria oido Frank en su adolescencia
They just love making fun of doo wop
I think he genuinely loved doo wop music. But he also loved making fun of some of the lyrical tropes in pop music.
Actually the melody is beautiful and under the childish facade there is some really heartbreaking lyrics.
But then the song title is go cry on somebody else's shoulder so....
David Meir Es un homenaje a la musica Doo-Wop, que tenia excelentes vocalistas con tonos variados y letras muchas veces cursis y ñoñas

Love this guy.
Zappa indeed far ahead of time here. All his breadbasket lands between gigs lain waste to the likes of what remains now in Pomona, formerly home of motor scooters built of variable ratio drove, but this seemingly devil worshipppng culture in CA leftistlature seems to rejoice in every moral resident being driven out

Oh those nights in Matlock!
Who cares if it makes a mess,
It says a lot about people when this awesome song only has about 40k views, yet I'm sure Beiber has something ridiculous...
Oh he has something ridiculous. A ridiculous amount of dislikes.
Maybe ppl just dont get the music, back then was a different time I dont really like satirical music like this cool you can make fun of another song good for you. Hell maybe I just dont get the music but I can definitely see why some people can and did really like it, its basically all you had I've tried to understand and even like his music I just cant it sounds like shit and isnt funny
Not everyone wants to hear the same thing as you. Grow up.
Brilliant.
long live FZ!
"This song is so greasy, you could put it on your hair."
Colin MacKenzie I love it haha As it says in the album booklet, "GO CRY ON SOMEBODY ELSE'S SHOULDER . . . (3:39) is very greasy. You should not listen to it. You should wear it on your hair."
They probably did!
LOL ....
only zappa...
and most of us do just that.
Check out the Zappa-penned of "Memories of El Monte" for the backstory (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oSBnNd1HaX8). Zappa grew up in the CA desert on a steady diet of doo wop and East LA soul.
Frank Zappa did to Doo-Wop what Bluto from Animal House did to the preppy fraternity look.
Chachi Shapiro Zappa loved Doo-Wop
0:11-0:23 Always feel like I'm hearing the voice of Cheech Marin.
do-wop by a freaky wop
Das rasis
Zappa was not Italian but brainareus is an idiot.
So lean on , go cry on somebody else's door. .... Got this on vinyl, when Cool was cool !!!
The vinyl is far superior than digital, unbelievable richness of sound.

I don't love you anymore, one of the best songs about love
Takes the piss out of sixties pop. Classic
lol its experimental rock... not pop
Random Stranger Online Zappa loved do-wop
you mean 50s pop for this song..
it's an experimental rock group making pastiches of pop
GO CRY ON SOMEBODY ELSE'S SHOULDER CUZ I DON'T LOVE YA ANYMORE !
@Jane Doe ~ Any guy who ever broke up with a game-playing chick can appreciate this song! ☺
The first Zappa LP got in early 70's.
Class. Thanks mate.
