Frank Sinatra - The Second Time Around Lyrics

Love is lovelier the second time around
Just as wonderful with both feet on the ground
It's that second time you hear your love song sung
Makes you think perhaps that love, like youth, is wasted on the young

Love's more comfortable the second time you fall
Like a friendly home the second time you call
Who can say what brought us to this miracle we've found?
There are those who'll bet love comes but once, and yet
I'm oh, so glad we met the second time around

[instrumental-strings]

Who can say what brought us to this miracle we've found?
There are those who'll bet love comes but once, and yet
I'm oh, so glad we met the second time around

One of the most beautiful songs ever. It really touched my soul. Felt as if I was actually in love.

  5. P.... W....

Happened to me and my ex-boyfriend, reconnecting & getting together again after 30 years apart. It was fate & so beautiful. But he passed away almost a year ago and I am devastated.

I’m 73. I saw ALL of them (Frank, Nelson, Rosemary) in Boston when I was young. Frank’s eye were the same color as my Dad’s! I told him that! Lolol

  10. P.... P....

I've recently reconnected online with the love of my life, 42 years after we broke up when I was 24. So far we've just been emailing and messaging, but the rollercoaster of feelings I've been experiencing, gives me a whole new perspective on this song...

  11. S.... B....

    Family guy bought me here

    S.... B....

You're not the only one 😁

  12. M.... M....

The best instrumental version is Ahmad Jamal's.

  13. D.... C....

Elvis wanted to be Frank and never quite made it.

    D.... C....

    .???????

  14. J.... J....

This was my Mother and Fathers song. They are both gone now but I listen to it often and it helps me remember them both.

  15. R.... B....

HAPPY BIRTHDAY FRANK SINATRA, This Song reminds me of my Husband and I. ❤ we had a Wonderful Marriage for 31 years.

  16. B.... W....

Heard him sing this for the first time in London 1962. Will never forget the lyrics. Simply beautiful...

  17. R.... A....

Have more elegant lyrics ever been written?

    R.... A....

    Richard Allen NO.

  18. M.... G....

I hated the Family Guy version. I had to listen the original It Is a Splendid song!

  19. j.... e....

brilliant song, but 3rd in my case lol

  20. D.... ....

Such beautiful music, I can sing swing as well and this man here is who inspired it all. Never will be another frank, but his music will live on forever.

  21. J.... M....

dedicated to Sinatra the Snowshoe kitteh who has now gone to live with the Star Clan. Farewell beautiful.

  22. N.... C....

to some great neighbors, Joanne and Phil.

  23. N.... S....

BLUGH! OMFG this guy is like audio-fied barf.

    N.... S....

You're a fkn idiot. Get lost.

  24. J.... M....

This is another take which I've not heard before - it was probably rejected because of the mistake Frank makes on the word "Just" at the beginning of the song and he uses the phrase "What brought us to" but in the released version he sings "What led us to"

  26. W.... ....

I heard this on rookie of the year

  27. A.... j....

What a beautiful song; done by one of the best...

  28. J.... S....

Happy 100th Birthday Frank! Wish you were still here singing for us :)

    J.... S....

He's always young at heart and with us

  29. C.... S....

You should hear Dusty Springfield sing this song! What a difference. Lovely interpretation !

  30. b.... w....

    just oozes class

  31. T.... J....

    Loving Sinatra!!!!

  32. K.... D....

Are the lyrics meaning love is better the second time you love someone else? Or the second time you love the same person?

    K.... D....

    The same person.

    K.... D....

+Felipe Diez YOU sure? Did Frank tell you that?

    K.... D....

    Good point!

    K.... D....

I think it is about the same person, must be beautiful :)

    K.... D....

The second person. "I'm oh so glad we MET the second time around."

  33. D.... B....

Sinatra is singing very interpretively here, but you have to realize what an immense impact Nelson Riddle's orchestration, reharmonizations, side melodies and moving bass lines do to the overall feel of the song.  Nelson was every bit the romantic - perhaps even more than Frank himself (look at his love for Rosemary Clooney).  Riddle is the man!!!

    D.... B....

@Dave Bass I agree. Everything about the arrangement is impressive: the lyrics, melody, and instrumentation are perfect.

    D.... B....

    Nicely put! Thanks

    D.... B....

There's a book published in England in the 60's - short little hardcover like 5x8 - that interviews Frank and Nelson in detail about their working methods. Best little book; they really lay out the art of it.

  35. T.... ....

im looking for that version...i love the picked up speed in the song

  36. O.... F....

I say the family guy version is better.

    O.... F....

Ashkore Belower I’d love to hear a full version done by Frank Junior in that arrangement

  37. V.... ....

That is so beautiful, may you live happily with each other forever :)

  38. d.... e....

Almost 30 years ago this was my wife's and my song. We had both been married before. Both marriages ended in divorce. We've been married 27 years now. The second time is lovlier, with both feet on the ground.

  39. R.... ....

Re:1915fas, listened to the vocal again & it sounds even worse! Man, he's dragging that lyric like it was a dead body. It's about rebirth, not nostalgia! He's not carrying a torch, he's waving it. I just don't get it. But aesthetics is like that. Cole Porter resented the changes Sinatra made in his songs; Rodgers was furious over "Blue Moon" by The Marcels, etc. Not sure what he thought of the Elvis haunted version!

  40. R.... ....

You may be right! Thx for the correction. I can say it's a typo, but it's not! However, "retards" is not impossible, though not strictly musical! Anyway they're from the same root (cognates): go slow; hence retarded child. But your choice is better (ritardando). Re: 1915fas: I love Darin, but he couldn't sing slow because he had limited vocal timbre. Otherwise Darin is amazing, but his voice cracks on certain songs. He did a lot w/his limited vocal equipment.

  41. J.... L....

This the way this song should be sung. With a stately measured tempo where the guy is expressing everything he felt when he was apart and now can share with the girl because they're together and understand each other more than before. It is not a rythm song at all. Michael Buble is a lot like Darin who couldn't sing slow maybe because he had a bad heart and had no legato or breath control- something Tony Bennett noticed.

  42. b.... s....

to all young guys now they'll know how its been before u break and later it is both of u again

  43. J.... G....

    NOBODY BEAT'S THIS GUY !!!

  44. l.... ....

@Richard40171 Oh, no, I agree completely. This song works better with a more steady beat; a swing beat works perfect for this song.
    I like Buble's version better.

    l.... ....

lifeofanidiot ... what an idiotic comment
    shallowness becomes you

  45. R.... ....

Criticizing a Sinatra vocal is risky, but I think he's taking this song too slow, with too many retards. It worked on "All the Way," but doesn't work on this kind of melody.

    R.... ....

It's never a good idea to have too many retards on your song.

  46. J.... C....

    Sinatra é imcomparável!

  47. I.... M....

    me encanta.....<3!!I love it<3!!!
