Frank Sinatra - Once Upon A Time Lyrics

Once upon a time a girl with moonlight in her eyes
Put her hand in mine and said she loved me so
But that was once upon a time very long ago

Once upon a hill we sat beneath a willow tree
Counting all the stars and waiting for the dawn
But that was once upon a time, now the tree is gone

How the breeze ruffled through her hair
How we always laughed as though tomorrow wasn't there
We were young and didn't have a care
Where did it go?

Once upon a time the world was sweeter than we knew
Everything was ours, how happy we were then
But somehow once upon a time never comes again

[brief string interlude]

Once upon a time never comes again

Check out Bobby Darin's live version, heartbreakingly beautiful, maybe the best version. Love Sinatra's version too.

I've heard many versions of this tune, including one by its composer, Charles Strouse, but Frank's is the best.

A gorgeous song sung in only the way that one man could do it, Frank Sinatra

One of Frank Sinatra's most underated songs, also a great arrangement. Others John Gary, Tony Bennett did it great, but Sinatra's resonance makes you feel the real story.

Steve I agree. I heard all versions but in the end for me this is the best. September of My Years is a wonderful album. When it came out I was in my
early 20's and didn't appreciate it. It is an album for someone who has a few
years under his belt. :) I featured it today on an eclectic playlist. I love Sinatra
but I also love James Brown. I am one who doesn't believe today's music
is bad, sometimes it doesn't speak to me, nor do I believe the old standards
were my parents & grandparents music. Music that touches your soul is
eternal. I hope YOU & all who are open minded & open hearted enjoy! :)
