Frank Sinatra - Maybe You'll Be There Lyrics

Each time I see a crowd of people
Just like a fool I stop and stare
It's really not the proper thing to do
But maybe you'll be there

I go out walking after midnight
Along the lonely thoroughfare
It's not the time or place to look for you
But maybe you'll be there

You said your arms would always hold me
You said your lips were mine alone to kiss
Now after all those things you told me
How can it end like this

Someday if all my prayers are answered
I'll hear a footstep on the stair
With anxious heart I'll hurry to the door
And maybe you'll be there

Frank Sinatra Maybe You'll Be There Comments
  1. M.... L....

I love this song even though I know no one will be at the door. Sinatra does this the best of ANYONE who's ever covered this beautiful, sad song! I listen to the master sing but with tears.

  2. J.... B....

I prayed for this for years and the maybe never happended

  3. D.... J....

Must have been looking for Ava.

  4. M.... S....

Great song by a great singer.......

  5. M.... L....

A favorite song of mine for a very long time.  In 1957, Frank has just had his divorce from Ava become final when he recorded this song; I'm sure he was still hoping she would still, maybe be there when he went to the door; you can hear it in his voice!  A beautiful song of love gone and the longing that it MAYBE could come back, we've all been there.

    👏👏👏👏👏

  7. D.... k....

When I lost my Meghan back in 91 I became the man in this song. I used to listen to this over & over again with a cold-case & drown in my misery until I was unconscious. Frank was there. No one else under-stood, but Sinatra under-stood. A masterpiece.

  8. J.... W....

Love Frank's songs. Him and Connie Francis are amazing.

  9. T.... ....

Frank Sinatra: the voice of the 20th Century.

  10. h.... ....

What a corny, pathetic interpretation of a beautiful song. Terrible. Listen to Sarah Vaughan.

    h.... ....

    Wash your mouth out.

    h.... ....

If you were to ask all the singers who recorded this they would all give Frank and Jenkins their credits.

  11. S.... D....

    😢❤️

  12. J.... a....

sinatra & jenkins have turned this "Torch Song" into a dreadful "Lament". Too slow, too formal. too obvious for tears.

  13. M.... L....

This is a very favorite song of mine, I love the lyrics and tune (although it brings tears to my eyes) he recorded this in 1957, the year his divorce from Ava was final, you can hear the emotion in his voice. This ballad is right down his alley -- the greatest balladeer of all time, Sinatra! Your pictures with this are lovely, thank you for posting this great song, by the very best!

  14. S.... S....

Sinatra's diction, as always is perfect. Plus, he is able to deliver the emotion in every song he tackles.

  15. M.... ....

Proud to be the one to leave the 300th like for this song, takes me back to my past life.
I dedicate this song to my beloved wife Lynda Johnson.

  16. P.... P....

I love Sinatra singing unfortunately this is not his song.Diane Krall and Joni James sing it better.

  17. B.... L....

I really think this girl is really lucky to have this music posted on her page. ❤️

  18. K.... K....

not for me to argue whose version is better, but if it is important for you to feel the anguish of a longing heart, this version by Frank Sinatra beats them all. His diction is perfect and every word stands out to haunt the lonely heart. I am impressed !!

    K.... K....

    So very well stated!

    K.... K....

Thank you. I was just talking from the vantage point of experience. Been there.

    K.... K....

@Kulas Kagascas Yes, Kula's,so have I been there, and still am!....wonderful version of a Sinatra song!

  19. R.... F....

Frank's burnished, lush voice and impeccable phrasing and emotion perfectly match Gordon Jenkins' arrangements and orchestration- just pure vocal artistry from the Voice.

  20. Q.... J....

also consider this was one Of The first albums in stereo. sound is sublime.

    Q.... J....

    Excellent point!

  21. D.... J....

    A favourite Album of mine

    D.... J....

Me too!  He called 3 albums, his "suicide albums" and they are sad:  "Where Are You," "No One Cares" and "Only The Lonely."  My favorite albums and I play them often!  I'd probably add "In The Wee Small Hours of the Morning," which I also love.

  22. j.... d....

    the best

  23. F.... ....

    Frank pour toujours !

  24. A.... B....

There is only one Frank but I do like the way Billy and the Essentials doo wop this song.

  25. C.... ....

In many of our younger days this Sinatra album first attracted our attention by the splendid ballad " I'm a Fool to want you". Then you experience the wealth of beauty in the other ballads in the collection along with the Gordon Jenkins arrangements and you are hypnotized with Sinatras voice and renditions; making the album a classic of all of the numerous collection of recordings he made: both with Capitol and then Reprise.. "Where are you" album is a Sinatra gem! And no: Ms.Krall can not compete with this !!!!! Opinion.. Yes; fact : YES!

    C.... ....

You say Ms Krall can not compete with this. I'll go further. No one, but no one, can begin to compare to Sinatra.

    C.... ....

I thoroughly agree. I recently heard a version of this song by Sue Rainey and liked it. Then I noticed that Frank also recorded it. Before he even finished the first line of his version, I came to the conclusion that nobody could sing this song better - as is the case with many, many of his songs. We'll never see, or hear, another Francis Albert.

  26. N.... J....

    Magic album!!!! Frank Sinatra forever!!!!

  27. K.... A....

    Artistry from the master!

  28. R.... G....

    Beautiful!!🎤 Sharing

  29. J.... ....

Perfect voice for this perfect song!

  30. N.... K....

This kills me every time I hear it. Reminds me of an intense, sordid relationship that inevitably ended messily.

  31. V.... A....

'Where Are You' has always been considered the poor relation in any review of the seminal series of ballad albums that FS recorded while at Capitol. Despite my numerous reservations about Jenkins' contribution to the FS canon, he more than delivers here.

The signature descending plaintive strings work very well and the recording is also ample testimony to FS's fabled powers of interpretation. The lyrics are largely pedestrian and yet our man invests them with a level of feeling that, even after more than 50 years, remains a thoroughly captivating performance.

Sinatra transforms a rather undistinguished and generic love song into the most heartfelt paean to grief, dejection and near despair.

    It's a towering performance.

    V.... A....

+Vance Adair So appropriate an appreciation.

    V.... A....

I think you like it? Try not to be above everyone with your overbearing writing. English, like most languages is at it's most powerful when kept simple.

    V.... A....

stephen obrien I suspect you're used to simple things. I write as I choose and your ad hominem attacks are extremely rude.

    V.... A....

Well said Vance, don't listen to stephen . He doesn't understand the depths of sinatras music like us.

  32. C.... B....

Good but Krall's rendition is the best.

    C.... B....

I guess I would have to disagree with that

    C.... B....

    +ClassicPerformances2   You're not alone

    C.... B....

June Christy did a great version of this too. Check it out on youtube

    C.... B....

Her cover is closer to a heartbreak.

  33. J.... P....

    one of the best standards....

  34. C.... ....

    I did....still prefer this recording....
