Frank Sinatra - Last Night When We Were Young Lyrics
Last night when we were young
Love was a star, a song unsung
Life was so new, so real so right
Ages ago last night
You flew away and time grew cold
Where is that star that shone so bright
Ages ago last night?
To think that spring had depended
On merely this: a look, a kiss
To think that something so splendid
Could slip away in one little daybreak
So now, let's reminisce
The arms that clung
When we were young last night

Definitely a Frank fan here, but I like Vic Damone's version better..... and can't find it on YouTube anywhere. :/

Sinatra at his best
a correction to my last post. The correct name
is Ava Gardner, who Frank divorced in late 1951
They married in 51. Divorced in 57.
No worries Scott, we all know who you meant.
The entire album describes Frank Sinatra's thoughts, pain, and emotions about his break up and divorce from Eva Gardner. The top track on the album for me is "What is this thing called love". This is a "Torch song" album
Frank called 3 albums his "suicide albums" -- some were recorded before he and Ava broke up (and divorced in 1957), but one or two, right after and you can hear the pain in his voice on some songs. ("No One Cares (1959), Where Are You (1957), Only The Lonely," (1958) and I would add "In The Wee Small Hours of the Morning (1955)" to those three, probably my favorite of his albums because they are so full of emotion and longing.) The only other singer I've heard who could put so much longing and emotion in their songs is Nancy Wilson, another fave of mine.
Mesmerising!
Impossibly melancholy, majestic sad beauty, aching loss, all communicated masterfully by arguably the greatest ballad (and swing) vocalist of all time, Francis Albert Sinatra.
love was a star last night when we were young TRIUMPH
This is one of my favorite Frank Sinatra ballads. It is simply beautiful.
I'll ALWAYS love Frank's songs , my songs are only a hobby for now, but I e day I'll be Pro hopefully thx for share;-))) SLD
This song is haunting 50 years later. The song delivers every line with the epitome of anguish that is unrequited love.
A moment of your time.
Have you read the loving tribute to Sinatra, an image of his hat lingering on the cover, Why Sinatra Matters. A small book. All that was left of him. After he died. And the vestiges of Sarah Vowell's voice on This American Life. Nine minutes of love for him, the man, our voice, the baritone of sadness. Uniquely American. Uniquely ours.

Why Sinatra Matters. By Pete Hamill.
The Man With the Golden Arm. Him, suffering in the streets, subject to the harsh pen and desperate loneliness of Nelson Algren, his heart broken by Simone de Beauvoir. Pretentious French muse, who beat down Algren, the sad, dumb, nostalgic American.
This record was cut. In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning. After Sinatra's heart was trashed in turn by Ava Gardner. The beautiful narcissist. Too drunk to notice.
Sinatra's album, "In the wee small hours of the morning" was recorded in 1955 (he and Ava Gardner's divorce was final in 1957) but in was in trouble as early as 1955 and you can hear that in this album. The "Where are you" album (released in 1957) includes the song Sinatra co-wrote, "I'm a fool to want you" the song where he broke down in the studio while trying to record it and had to come back another day to finish it. It was a very traumatic time for him.
I love Frank but my favorite version is from Judy Garland.
Why i looked up this song...
im still young but this is definitely my favorite frank sinatra song.
No doubt Frank Sinatra's interpretation is mesmerizing, but this song was composed by Harold Arlen
Enjoy your youth for the short time it lasts.
Warm Bodies?
FRANK SINATRA! Frank's great rendition of "Last Night When We Were Young."
This is my single favorite Sinatra ballad. It is so beautifully phrased by Frank, and it leads you to believe that he is actually singing of his lost love. Of course, Frank is singing about the love of years ago, not just "last night." The lyric and song are haunting, but resonate with all those who have lost a love. A Great Song.
May God Bless Frank Sinatra - the best of the best!
MR. FRANCIS ALBERT IS INDEED AN IMORTAL. HIS CORPSE IS LONG GONE... BUT HIS ART WILL STAY 4EVER. HE IS THE VOICE, NEVERTHELESS WITHOUT A DOUBT.
AMEN, brother! I'll drink to that.
FRANK SINATRA! My Favorite Sinatra Ballad!! Beautifully sung! Hauntingly lovely lyrics interpreted as only Frank Sinatra could do! May God Bless Frank Sinatra!
BEST VERSION
