Frank Sinatra - If I Had You Lyrics

I could show the world how to smile
I could be glad all of the while
I could change the gray skies to blue
If I had you

I could leave the old days behind
Leave all my pals, I'd never mind
I could start my life anew
If I had you

I could climb a snow-capped mountain
Sail the mighty ocean wide
I could cross the burning desert
If I had you by my side

I could be a king, dear, uncrowned
Humble or poor, rich or renowned
There is nothin' I couldn't do
If I had you

[instrumental-first two verses]

I could climb a snow-capped mountain
Sail the mighty ocean wide
I could cross the burnin' desert
If I had you by my side

I could be a king uncrowned
Humble or poor, rich or renowned
There is nothin' I couldn't do
If I had you

Baby, if I had you

What a great song. Barbershop John sings an awesome 4-part a cappella version that you might also enjoy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1GC4_daGOk

  2. D.... J....

There are hundreds of songs of this quality in Franks repertoire

  3. S.... P....

Oh, how I Love this... Beautiful by Frank I think he sounds wonderful...he's really into 'feeling' the lyrics as Frank always does perfectly!

  8. T.... ....

Ooh - that bass clarinet, mutes in trombs, understated strings, celesta... who arranged this? [scurries away to find out]

    T.... ....

Found my answer - Robert J. Farnon, a Canadian.

@TheFaithArtist Thank you so much! Flаwless!

The "Swingin' Affair" version is definitely better, but this one is still ridiculously pretty and yet jazzy at the same time. That vibraphone or whatever is making that twinkling noise is simply magical.

    M.... ....

As for me, this is the Version, that's deffinitely better. In many ways, actually in every way. The "whatever" is a celesta.

  11. I.... ....

If you thumbed down this song you have no soul

  12. I.... ....

This arrangement is phenomenal ! Those horns and strings ! How they build and peak.... brings out an intensity to the song ... just beautiful

  13. D.... N....

This may not be mainstream but it says a lot more in 2 words than most tunes written in the last 10 to 15 years.

  14. B.... B....

Love this. If only love was so easy. Dancing. A place. For love. To expand.

  15. B.... ....

I met my wife in 1949 in a ballroom and this was the signature of the band. I'll never forget it. Every time I think of it i'm back in the Tower

KARZJR Raw.. never a mistake in a single take. it was perfectly real.

Frank recorded this song...and ten others, for his album "Great Songs From Great Britain." This album was recorded in London in mid-June, 1962, after a grueling world tour. Frank was exhausted...and his voice was tired...but the album turned out to be very popular. Seven or eight takes into this song, the piano broke down...and there was no spare available. Sinatra suggests using a celesta. What a brilliant idea!! Written in the mid-20's, Frank sings this song with reflection and longing.

FAS RICHARD Amazing.. 7, 8 takes? That's nothing for an artist today. they do 50-60 over a week and piece it together on pro-tools. Frank? Frank got angry if he had to go 3. Angry nothing.. Irate!

All the books you read about him.. even Quincy Jones says, he was a one shot guy almost ALWAYS!

He showed up ready. Usually dressed up and he had a few guests watching his taping.

he thought it was better fresh. Raw.
