Frank Sinatra - I Have Dreamed Lyrics

I have dreamed that your arms are lovely
And I have dreamed what a joy you'll be
I have dreamed ev'ry word you'll whisper
When you're close, close to me

How you look in the glow of evening
I have dreamed and enjoyed the view
In these dreams I've loved you so
That by now I think I know
What it's like to be loved by you
I will love being loved by you

[instrumental]

In these dreams I've loved you so
That by now I think I know
What it's like to be loved by you
I will love being loved by you

A beautiful, passionate, romantic song from “The King and I”. Sinatra sings it so well, with so much energy and love! 🥰👍

    Love You!

  13. L.... g....

    Man... This is amazing!

  14. E.... G....

I think what I love about this song the most is how relatable it is (ya know, besides the sheer brilliance of his voice).

We have the person in our lives that we just can't help wonder what it would be like to cared about and loved the same if not a similar way we care about them...

For me, no days have gone by where I don't think about that person... what it be like, to be loved in such a way.

This may sound a little weird, but I almost yearn for it. Maybe I don't predict what they say, but... this encapsulates the desire to be loved by those... those that may seem far away somedays...

In my case, she belongs to someone else I'm afraid... but oddly, I wouldn't be better off without it.

Better to have loved and lost than better to have loved at all...

I HAVE DREAMED -- For many of his fans THIS is their favorite track on THE CONCERT SINATRA.

"I have dreamed that your arms are lovely
And I have dreamed what a joy you'll be
I have dreamed every word you'll whisper
    When you're close, close to me . . . "

This gorgeous Rodgers & Hammerstein ballad was heard in the original Broadway production of THE KING AND I -- but inexplicably not included in the movie version. So, for those who didn't see the Broadway show (or own a copy of the original cast black vinyl LP) this song was a revelation for Frank's fans -- who got to hear it for the first time definitively performed on THE CONCERT SINATRA. Yes, maybe this is my favorite track too. (But then again . . .)

  21. r.... ....

This is perhaps Frank Sinatra's best recording ever - and he made a LOT of great ones.  I'm sorry that I didn't hear this absolutely beautiful Rodgers and Hammerstein song until just a few weeks ago when I first heard it in the move 'THE AMERICAN PRESIDENT'.  Exquisite!  I am honored to have lived in the same century as Frank Sinatra.

  22. C.... P....

There are very, very few times that I can honestly say, a song really moved me strongly,,, emotionally, and in real terms of awareness, internally and spiritually~!~ The song is absolutely splen-didly written (Rodgers & Hammerstein!), and directed (Nelson Riddle!) and no better a dynamic sound could be created for this song~!~ Sinatra's vocals were absolutely spot-on here~!~ It brought more than chills to me~!~!~!~ I am taken aback abit~!~ WOW. Thank you~!~

    S.... C....

I second that emotion -- so well expressed by Sonny Cannon: One of those very few times when "a song really moved me strongly, emotionally . . . spiritually." And yes, it brings me "chills." Thanks for posting, Sony Cannon.

  42. B.... M....

Frank was at the top of his game, mature, voice quality there, perfect. Hard to imagine as a fellow jazz standards artist anyone topping him. Others have their own stamp to lay on the mold, but Frank is the original mold.

  59. M.... P....

    my fav sinatra song perfect

  60. s.... ....

If you can believe, in the film The King and I..this song was left out of the score. Sinatra brought it to where it should be...great song...

    s.... ....

+Woody Chock He would have been great in Carousel. He did, on his '57 show, a duet with Shirley Jones of "If I Loved You." beautifully done. Ava wrecked his emotional life but gave us some perfect recordings of unrequited love...

    s.... ....

+saintcruzin : As it turns out, this recording became one of his most admired, even without the movie appearance. He left the Carousel set after Ava sent him a message threatening to go off with another actor if he didn't go to Europe to meet her. Another song similarly left intact from the movies was when Mario Lanza got fired after a squabble with MGM which used his dubbed voice for the song "I'll Walk with God" in "The Student Prince."

    s.... ....

+My My The entire LP "The Concert Sinatra" is Frank at his best. It was Nelson Riddle's favorite Reprise sessions where both he and Frank took it up a notch. Old Man River, Soliloquy, Bewitched, My Heart Stood Still & more. In my top 5 Sinatra LPs....

    s.... ....

+saintcruzin Will look forward to getting this. Thanks!

    s.... ....

The actors in the revival with Kelli O'Hara did a really good job with this song. It is such an emotional and beautiful piece.

  61. D.... F....

    Hes no Jerry Vale!

    D.... F....

LOL. You reminded me of the time my guitar hero Chet Atkins was on a Caribbean cruise and picked up someone's guitar and began playing a little. A fellow passenger said, "You know you're good. You're no Chet Atkins, but you play well."

  62. c.... ....

Magnificent! What more can I say?

    c.... ....

Yes, even as viewed through the lens of the entire body of Sinatra's best work, this interpretation of R and H's all-time finest love song Is, buoyed by the thrilling Nelson Riddle arrangement, the greatest Frank Sinatra recording of all-time!

    c.... ....

Doesn't get any better than that!

    c.... ....

Sis Mark always closed his Sinatra radio show with this magnificent song.

Absolutely brilliant.  My Dad loved this song by Frank Sinatra and it always reminds me of him :)

  66. C.... G....

    Just a beautiful calming track.

  67. z.... c....

Fantastic Frank as always,  I bought this album ''The concert Sinatra'' back in 1962 and it's interesting to know that many years later John Williams , by then conductor of the Boston Pops Orchestra used Franks ending in his arrangement of this song.

    z.... c....

+zoot case -- Fortunately the album is available on CD. I purchased it last year and am still listening to it. Frank's voice is, IMO, at its best and Nelson scored the very best arrangements possible. The whole thing is superlative.

    z.... c....

John Williams left intact (who could improve on Riddle?) Nelson's breathtakingly beautiful closing orchestral flourish when the Boston Pops Orchestra performed the instrumental version. Many Sinatra fans say this one is their favorite from THE CONCERT SINATRA (1963).

  68. s.... ....

    So beautiful.

  76. R.... ....

hmm, I just listened to Matt Monro's version of this song and it was sung beautifully; I guess two different styles.

  77. c.... p....

    Perfection!

  78. t.... ....

he sets and atmosphere when he sings, thats his magic

  79. F.... R....

Undoubtedly, one of Sinatra's finest recordings...EVER!!!  And he had hundreds!!!

    F.... R....

Absolutely beautiful...the lyrics: they really "get next you."

    F.... R....

@Beauregard Clayton Yes, words that really "get next to you." Hard to believe that Oscar Hammerstein wrote the words first. Imagine Richard Rodgers achievement as a composer coming up with such a breathtakingly beautiful melody to do the words justice.

    F.... R....

Also.....the ballad "More Than You Know". so beautiful and "I'll Be Seeing You". no one writes music like this anymore with feeling.

  80. N.... B....

It's not often that one can luxuriate in the power of a voice with such resonant presence. This selection from the 1963 album "The Concert Sinatra" is one of Frank's primo recordings. Look for the 2012 expanded reissue of this album on the Concord label. It provides a sonic clarity that borders on three-dimensional, as close as one could possibly get to sitting in the midst of the Nelson Riddle Orchestra while Sinatra sings his way through cherished pages of the Great American Songbook.

The intensity of the romantic ardour expressed in Hammerstein's lyrics is unmatched by any song I know . That Rodger, who always wrote after receiving the completed lyric, came up with a melody that does full justice to its achingly desperate longings is a miracle. Only Frank Sinatra could do justice to such a masterwork, and he does!

    A.... ....

With Sinatra singing them you don't need to see the lyrics. You hear every word. Always.

    A.... ....

@eoselan7 You're the only reviewer I know of aware of that amazing ability of Richard Rodgers -- to allow his lyricist to write the words first -- then come up with an unforgettable (hear it once, remember it for a lifetime) tune. Just one reason why Rodgers is my all-time favorite composer -- a fountain of melodic invention. Another reason: I love waltzes and Rodgers wrote 16 of the 20 best waltzes of the 20th century. Thanks for your insightful comment, Eoselan.

  84. W.... C....

Frank did one of his best live recordings of this song at the Royal Festival Hall in England. I listen to this song almost three times a week!

  85. W.... J....

so true - and can you believe they left this song out of the 1956 movie musical of the King and I - what a big mistake! I once sat through the entire movie waiting for this song because of Frank's version - boy was I disappointed.

  86. S.... ....

Such mastery, from Frank's singing to Nelson Riddle's arrangement to the orchestra's performance. Stunning.

  87. M.... G....

I AM EIGHTY YEARS OF AGE AND HAVE GROWN UP WITH THE GUY
I HAVE MARVELLED AT HIS VOICE AND HIS ACTING ABILITY
IN SHORT I HAVE WORSHIPPED HIM.
