Francis, Connie - Wives And Lovers Lyrics

Hey, little girl, comb your hair, fix your make-up, soon he will open the door
Don't think because there's a ring on your finger, you needn't try any more
For wives should always be lovers too
Run to his arms the moment that he comes home to you

I'm warning you
Day after day, there are girls at the office and the men will always be men
Don't stand up, with your hair still in curlers, you may not see him again

Wives should always be lovers too
Run to his arms the moment he comes home to you

He's almost here, hey, little girl, better wear something pretty
Something you wear to go to the city
Dim all the lights, pour the wine, start the music, time to get ready for love

Time to get ready for love, it's time to get ready for love
It's time to get ready, for love

So many versions of this tune, some outstanding ones by jazz musicians (guitar player Grant Green backed by drummer Elvin Jones, for instance). So, it's hard to say that Connie's is by far the best one you've ever heard. But there's a unique charm about it, undoubtedly. One can listen to it repeatedly. Thanks a lot for posting it.

Connie Francis had a fabulous voice, but that voice could not necessarily be bent successfully to conquer all elements of music, and, great fan that I am, I think her jazz efforts were unmemorable.

A lesson to young singers how to interpret the song.

What a nostalgic song. Back in the day when wives were actually ok with being homemakers.
