I know this song is five years old but i got a wicked idea about it. Alot of folks think it's all from the girls perspective, that they settled for an abusive relationship with a man that doesn't really love her, but on the flip side, i think the guy actually did love her, alot, thought the world of her, which is why the chorus isn't in quotation marks. He's asking if he's too rough, he's begging to be loved and because she believes she settled and didn't or still can't see his constant longing for love. So he re-ups on drug and alcohol abuse to fill a void of unrequited love leading to a legitimately abusive relationship, only confirming the idea that the chick had. That she settled but is in either a situation or society where she can't get out of it and therefore only breeds more bitterness driving him further into the arms of addiction and a wedge into their relationship.

Who's the girl in the video?

They fell in love almost on accident. The song and video are a story told together. She hated things about him but convinced herself that she loved him. He can feel he's fucking it up all along the way, "if you want me to slow down..." but doesn't want to outright say he feels like he's fucking it up. It's hidden by the pain of wanting to be loved. When the woman finally removes the blindfold of love she fashioned for herself is when we hear the lyric, "I wish I could leave you". He leaves her, the drowning in the bathtub a symbol of his exit and his own internal demise. As soon as he is away from her, she begins to regrow, shown by the flowers blooming over time. By the end she stands strong, even more enveloped in beauty and character than before the two fell in love.

Kind of makes me wish that Foxing made a continuation called "Breaking the Surface" or something to do with leaving the water, a continuation to the story of having to bring himself back after "going under" to be this woman's Medic.
