Just beautiful. Tony Blackburn played this on his morning show today after I hadn't heard it in years and it broke my heart and had me in tears all over again. Motown made memories that stayed forever and whilst David Ruffin was brilliant Levi was the King.

Just love this song, it brings back so many memories of my teenage years, some good, some bad. The lyrics are very moving. My go to song if I am feeling down.

I was never a massive soul fan but the lyrics & performance of this made me buy it at the time & still play it. Carol Morgan was about to dump me, I was 20. & this spoke to me.

I was 19 when this charted sometime in the autumn of 69. It was a very happy time for me and the end of an era as the 60s drew to a close. Every time I hear it played it takes me straight back there. One of my all time top 10.

Motown was part of the music I was brought up with, to pick a favourite song from The Four Tops, for me, is almost impossible. Hoping to visit the studios later this year.

I played this absolute classic many of days when the love of my life left me and I knew she had to do what she had to do. I also knew she would comon back and see me when she can. We were apart for 1 year before she almost begged me to take her back and now 12 years later we have 2 beautiful sons and never looked back. I have always been a great great fan of the four tops and this will always be a very special song for us

Anyone watch Motown last night? Why wasn't this top of the alltime hits chart. No-one could sing this like Levi. He put so much feeling into it. Such a powerful voice.

frankie hunter sorry..always love the tops...but was expecting a more soulful version...does not start to compare with the version i grew up on...Al Wilson's..in fact that was the only version I knew until now.. one of the most underrated vocalists Al Wilson's version leaves nothing on the table

I was lucky enough to see the Four Tops in the early seventies. The roof came off when they sang this beautiful heart felt song. The girl with me at that time has now been my wife for 36 years. What an amazing time to have lived through.

This is one of the Tops best ... though not commercially the success it should have been ... the soulful and gut wrenching sound of Levi Stubbs reaches into and right thru you ... Jimmy Webb wrote a hidden gem here ... RIP levi ...
