Four Seasons, The - Working My Way Back To You Lyrics

I'm workin' my way back to you babe
With a burnin' love inside
Yeah I'm workin' my way back to you babe
And the happiness that died

I let it get away
Paying every day

When you were so in love with me
I played around like I was free
Thought I could have my cake and eat it too
But how I cried over losin' you

See me down and out
But I ain't about to go livin' my life without you
For every day, I made you cry
I'm payin' girl, till the day that I die

I'll keep workin' my way back to you babe
With a burnin' love inside
I'm workin' my way back to you babe
And the happiness that died

I let it get away
Been payin' every day

I used to love to make you cry (Make you cry)
It made me feel like a man inside (Baby, baby)
But if I'd been a man in reality (Cry, cry)
You'd still be here babe, lovin' me

Now the nights are long and lonely
And I ain't too strong babe, I just miss you so
And you're too proud, you won't give in
But when I think, about all I could win

I keep workin' my way back to you babe
With a burnin' love inside
Mmm, I'm workin' my way back to you babe
And the happiness that died

I let it get away
Been payin' every day

Yeah, yeah, yeah

I'm workin' my way back to you babe
With a burnin' love inside
Ooh, I'm workin' my way back to you babe
And the happiness that died

Oh, how I cried
Workin' my way back to you babe
With a burnin' love inside
I'm workin' my way back to you babe

Four Seasons, The Working My Way Back To You Comments
  1. Mike Craig

Opportunity knocks more than once in this life. I always asked more than twice.

  2. Barry Scaping

The one and only Frankie Valli, legend of our time,

  3. Cat T

I didn't realize Frankie Valli and the four seasons had a version of this song. I'd only heard the spinners version before.

  4. Andrew Colvin

I miss being in the car driving with my dad as this and all their other great songs were on. We used to laugh when my dad would do Sherry cuz he was good at it. As he did his cheesy thumbs up dance. Everytime I hear four seasons I imagine being with my dad. This and ragdoll were my favorites.

  5. Jason Toki

    very high voice, wow

  6. Steve P

They did a free concert in Boston Common many years back that I was fortunate to go to, along with over 100,000 others.

  7. Robert Huge

They were before their time, during their time and after their time...in other words, timeless!

  8. jane oughton

These guys are the best harmonising singers in the world , i wish they would have let my twin sister and i sing with them , we would have blended in very nicely ,,,,genius blokes xx

  9. Jean Roger Daenen

Golden music with golden voices, they just dont exist anymore these days....

  26. Paul Honey

Probably the only Four Seasons song where I prefer the later, cover version. Still great though.

  27. Vin D

They took the sound from the "Squirrels". If the latter had had better A&R, it would have been them playing.

  28. Joe Newmark

One of the most perfect songs ever done, you can hear it 70 times in a row and not get tired of it

  29. Chris White

I'm sorry Ronnie, but the Beach Boys are simply better than Frankie Valli ever will be

  30. Gary Gaspar

this song was the start I was 13 & knew how to nasty

  31. Alun Smith

I won't though, I'll just sit here, in the dark, with the wine...

  32. Edith Evans

Golden oldies wow what a time for our music just the best thanks makes my day

  33. ANVIL Seventy-Six

Holy Shit reminds me of USMC bootcamp. Fire watch back in "96. I would hear this from D.I. hut early in the morning.

  34. quad8

The Beatles, Elvis, the Doors, the Temptations, the Four Tops, and THESE GUYS!

  35. Myusernameis505

This song sounds like an opening to a movie that takes place in 1966 but the movie is made in the 2000a

  36. I’m Batman

Why do we love older music so much?
    Because today’s music kinda sucks.

  37. courtney seymour;

That's the way it goes, those tables always turn, this song is truth

  38. Bruce Farris

Commenting on "Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You"---one of my old flames would send a line from that song and I would answer with the next line!!!--Great memories!!--Should be surprised at how many people know every word of the song---but I'm not !!!

  39. Shay Thiele

The pre chorus in this song is out of this world

  40. Clive Presley

Well done Zach, this is what music we used to have, a lot of music today, you can't understand the words.

  41. Bernadette Castillo

Thank you Love for the serenade last night !!! How nice of YOU. Love YOU more. Many thanks this boy 😍❤️❤️❤️

  42. Helen Hilyard

Since I grew up on them ,,I can not ever compare them to anyone else. I love them. Always will. Heart music for me. Can not ever express how I feel when I hear them. Takes me back then.

  43. Sir

    Excellent quartet

  44. elwin38

Back in the early 80's, we had a late night show called Dick Clark's Rock, Roll, and Remember and that was the 1st time i heard this version(around 1982). Before that, the only version i knew was the Spinners.

  45. MrGrampaMike

The East Coast version of the Beachboys and every bit as talented

  46. Jorge Mario Rodas

Great song which brings to me so many remembrances of my early twenties when I was studying at the University. The voice of Frankie Valli is spectacular really and the chorus and music make this a very good song to hear and enjoy, as the lyrics are great too and so meaningful.

  47. Maika Talaeai

Rest In love papa! Every time I hear music around this era I think of you. 🙏🏻

  48. Paige Ternes

At the speed 1.25 it is the perfect song

  49. Bob

A little trivia, this is the only Four Seasons tune in which the band's arranger, Charles Calello played bass and sang bass. Excellent bass part too, it always caught my ear even when new (I'm a long time bass player). He went on to produce and arrange or work on many famous albums from Frank Sinatra to Bruce Springsteen.

  50. Raye G

    Love this song

  51. carol Caiola

The 4 seasons are a great group and the the 60s 70s and 80s was great music, nowadays the young generation does'nt know how to have fun, i'm 60 yrs old and in my days we had so much fun just dancing, with little we had fun.

  52. blencathra11

back from Manchester uk ....farewell tour....at 84 this guy is no different from 1962.....astonishing

  62. Curtis Skarbgb

    Their songs are too short

  63. Martin Carman

    Never liked the Spinners' Cover.

    Christian Ramirez

Martin Carman Can you answer a question? Why when I type this song into google all the credit is given to spinners in 1979, when the four seasons recorded this song in 1966?

  64. Ada Ozkefeli

    We are still friends...........

  65. Jorge Mario Rodas

Another of those greats by the Four Seasons. I had this record in 45 rpm and liked it a lot, it wore out from so much hearing it. And it is nice to hear it again over fifty years later.

  66. P. S.

    ❤👍👍 Bellissimo

  67. UncleMikeNJ

It is a very difficult thing to sound both tough and vulnerable at the same time. Very few guys have ever mastered it. Elvis, Roy Orbison, Dion, and Frankie Valli, and then that was pretty much it until Four Seasons acolytes Billy Joel and Bruce Springsteen came along. I suspect Freddie Mercury was taking notes. But hardly anybody who came after him has been able to do it.

  68. Wamme 101

how come it says the spinners made it first

    Christian Ramirez

Wamme 101 Exactly, the four seasons recorded this in 1966, while the spinners are recognized for the song in 1979.

  69. Kevin M

The split audio was done incredibly well

  70. Cathy Cobb

    Great song!! Thanks for sharing!

  74. cadance Ryan

Started my first rock band in the 60's and incorporated 3 & 4 part harmonies because of great bands like the four seasons!
Hope today's youth someday see the light!

  75. Anthony Lawrence

The Spinners version of this song is fantastic in it's own right, but this will always be my favorite.

  76. Laine Wilson

Love their songs He is Tops

  79. The Real Hypeman

This should've been on Mafia lll

  80. Courson

Just remember, Frankie Valli had a hit before the Beatles, during the Beatles, and after the Beatles a true success.

    Yanett Salazar

4 Seasons are better than the Beatles, IMO. I don't like any Beatles song.

  81. Gary

Perfectly describes how I’m feeling right now.

  82. Timmie Glover

I like the spinners version better

    Christian Ramirez

Timmie Glover the spinners version should have been copyrighted

  85. Jill Campbell

    Love this song. So meaningful.

  86. Alexander Moreno

    Merci Moehringer.

  87. SassyBratt1

I love the part where he says "thought I could have my CAKE and eat it too"...they way he shouts CAKE really gives this song its strength.

    sarah jackson

    SassyBratt1 doesn't it just? X

  88. Barbara Butterfield

Who is playing bass on this!?

  89. chesh21-0

I watched Boardwalk Empire a few years ago and I really enjoyed Vincent Piazza's role so I ended up watching Jersey Boys and now I'm in love with the Four Seasons music!
Anyone else in a similar way?

    sarah jackson

Brilliant..... however you are led to something is interesting.

  90. Jorge Mario Rodas

Another of those unforgettable songs I used to hear in my teen years. When we break away of have a fight with our lover we feel bad after doing that and attempt to return and to put everything right again. It is not always possible to do so but we have to try anyhow. Growing up and maturing is not easy really.

  91. Anthony R

From my home state of New Jersey. Grew up about 20 minutes from Belleville, NJ where Frankie Valli is from. The Four Seasons are beloved here and they hung right in there with the best of them in the charts in the Sixties. Jersey proud!

  92. Jay Torr

Frankie is good, but the rest of this band is fuckin aweful. I'll take the spinners!!

    Christian Ramirez

Jay Torr bitch, get the fuck out of here. Screw the spinners and screw you

  93. Sean

Just love it since very young, always bring me some new here never happened and swipe some old there shouldn't exist...

  94. studiobazaar

I don't even like music from the present. It's jest horabal compared to this.

    Christian Ramirez

    studiobazaar are you illiterate?
