Foreman, Jon - Ghost Machine Lyrics
All hail the siren of our time
I'm possessed when she passes by
She drains the best years of my life
She makes promises
She could never keep
Ain't it a ghost machine
Making a ghost out of me
After all her lies I'm surprised that I still believe
She haunts me with her laughter in my dreams
My ghost machine
Father forgive me cause I know
Exactly how I spread my soul
My idolatry is in the pocket of my coat
I make promises
Ain't it a ghost machine
Ain't she a ghost machine
I'm still haunted by the faces on her screen
I swear she's gonna make a dead man out of me
Do you know yourself?
I heard a voice call out loud
We define ourselves
By the things we can't live without
I deny it, I could quit at any time
But my ghost is a drug
My ghost is a drug
She's in our blood
And I can't give her up
The clock - the altar of our time
The thought - the temple of our mind
Then I've been sprinkling the blood of most my life
On the altars of my ghost machine
Ain't she my enemy
My ancient remedy
The gods of all the empty promises that I believed
She haunts me with her laughter in my dreams
I swear she's gonna make a dead man out of me
My ghost machine

My favorite song
He’s talking about sin in this song. Talking about the empty promises sin makes, how it promises life and fulfillment but brings only death and hollowness.
“The clock the altar of our time
The thought the temple of our mind
And I’ve been sprinkling the blood of most my life
on the altars of my ghost machines.”
What great poetry!
“Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death.”
James 1:15 (NASB)
[Verse 1]
All hail the siren of our time
I'm possessed when she passes by
She drains the best years of my life
She makes promises
She could never keep
[Chorus 1]
Ain't it a ghost machine
Making a ghost out of me
After all her lies I'm surprised that I still believe
She haunts me with her laughter in my dreams
My ghost machine
[Verse 2]
Father forgive me cause I know
Exactly how I spread my soul

Ain't it a ghost machine

Ghost Machine is a song about one of the biggest struggles in a
man’s life, pornography. Porn is one of the most sly sins for men
because of how easy it can attack at any moment. Pastor/Rapper Trip Lee has a video on the fight between pornography and man.
I love the fact that any person with ghosts to fight can relate to this song. Such a beautiful song! Thanks Jon.
"The Clock, the Alter of our Time,
The Thought, the temple of our Mind,
I've been sprinkling the blood of most my life
On the alters of my Ghost Machine."
The composition and feel of this song remind me very much of your contemplative songs on the early Switchfoot albums, Legend of Chin through Beautiful Letdown. Love it.

A really beautiful and meaningful song.
this song is about drugs man "in the pocket of my coat"
Phones.
"I'm still haunted by the faces on the screen"
This song is absolutely gorgeous and very meaningful. It makes me want to cry...💙💙💙
Repost this asap to everyone u know.....
This song can actually be an anthem against all kinds of sin, the ultimate ghost machine. Beautiful and meaningful.
yeah hit the nail on the head there.
Essentially.
One of the later lines is almost haunting "I hear her laughter in my dreams".
Satan laughs at us when we sin, because he knows how stupid it is.
The music, the guitar, the voice, the artwork, everything is just so superb.
This song is about porn. I'm glad people are standing up agianst porn. and my favorite artists! porn kills love and is very addictive. this is a major problem throughout the world
This song can actually be an anthem against all kinds of sin, the ultimate ghost machine.
It's about our idols What we feel like we can't live without The false prophets and false leaders of our time It doesn't talk specifically about just porn or just one thing It's a broad song just like every other wonderland of songs And every song by Jon or switchfoot
Deion Muolo Yeah it really is terrible when you get caught in the cycle it creates.
This song is about starbucks right?
Nope lol, I'm pretty sure it's about porn/any virtual (on a screen) lust.
lol no it's about idolizing social media and attachment to machinery and prioritizing that over actual social interaction. it's not about porn per- say, the subject could be something benign: Facebook, YouTube, video games fill in the blank. this song speaks to how total immersion in those things can make you miss out on family time or rest. it becomes like a vampire, your "ghost machine" that is.
+Darrian Gario I was mostly joking. But he does reference a siren and being defined by the things we can't live without you.
It's about our idols
What we feel like we can't live without
The false prophets and false leaders of our time
It doesn't talk specifically about just porn or Starbucks or just one thing

According to Jon foreman this song is about cell phones and the attachment to social media.
+Rajax _JA That gives a lot of meaning in this current generation.

Another artist shares Jon's concerns about tech, in his work titled "Removed." Check out his photographs...they would make for a good "Ghost Machine" video: http://www.wimp.com/photographer-removes-phones-from-photos
This is awesome.
perfeito.....
let's see argue about politics or listen to this. Hmmmm. *Hits Repeat button* maybe politics is my ghost machine. Thank you Jon. You do God's work in more ways than you know

I really really think this one is about pornography...
I think it's bigger than just porn. I think it's about materialism-- or all the ways materialism infects us. So yes and no to your statement
+Tamás Fábián "I'm still haunted by the faces on her screen" I don't know what else this could be referring to besides pornography.
Our band played this with Jon Foreman and he said it was about phones and our use of technology.
+Tamás Fábián 'Could be anything related to lust. But you have the closest assumption.
The Best one
