FO&O - Doo-Wop Lyrics

You make systems overload
I'm up high light vertigo
We go wild, baby we go wild
Hard to beat this after tube, they don't know bout me and you
We go wild, yeah baby we go wild
Hey see, when you hit me up baby
Throw my hands up like crazy, show em how we do
(yeah we doing like)
Shakey, when you hit me amazing, throw my hands up like crazy
Show em how we do

You be bringing in my head head head
Like a drum drum drum
That base base base
Makes me dum dum dum
I don't doo-wop, I I I don't doo-wop
You be bringing in my head head head
Like a drum drum drum
That base base base
Makes me dum dum dum
I don't doo-wop, I I I don't doo-wop
You be bringing in my head head head
Like a drum drum drum
That base base base
Makes me dum dum dum
I don't doo-wop, I I I don't doo-wop

It's like your from out of space, knock me out hey beauty-face
I bow down, baby I bow down
Your my special boo-boo boom
I write all my songs with you, I bow down! baby I bow down

Hey see, when you hit me up baby
Throw my hands up like crazy, show em how we do
(show em how we do)
(yeah, we doing like)
Shakey, when you hit me amazing, throw my hands up like crazy
Show em how we do

You be bringing in my head head head
Like a drum drum drum
That base base base
Makes me dum dum dum
I don't doo-wop, I I I don't doo-wop
You be bringing in my head head head
Like a drum drum drum
That base base base
Makes me dum dum dum
I don't doo-wop, I I I don't doo-wop
You be bringing in my head head head
Like a drum drum drum
That base base base
Makes me dum dum dum
I don't doo-wop, I I I don't doo-wop

The apple on my eye, you burn it of and you know it
We got it all and we show it, we going up and we own it
Won't let it far and then we blow it
Yeah your my weakest, my a ship right here [?]

You be bringing in my head head head
Like a drum drum drum
That base base base
Makes me dum dum dum
I don't doo-wop, I I I don't doo-wop
You be bringing in my head head head
Like a drum drum drum
That base base base
Makes me dum dum dum
I don't doo-wop, I I I don't doo-wop
You be bringing in my head head head

FO&O Doo-Wop Comments
  1. M.... Y....

Although the musical style originated in the late 1940s and was wildly popular in the 1950s, the term "doo-wop" itself did not appear in print until 1961, in The Chicago Defender, just as the style's vogue was nearing its end. Though the name was attributed to radio disc jockey Gus Gossert, he did not accept credit, stating that "doo-wop" was already in use in California to categorize the music.[5]

"Doo-wop" is itself a nonsense expression. In The Delta Rhythm Boys' 1945 recording, "Just A-Sittin' And A-Rockin", it is heard in the backing vocal. It is heard later in The Clovers' 1953 release "Good Lovin'" (Atlantic Records 1000), and in the chorus of Carlyle Dundee & The Dundees' 1954 song "Never" (Space Records 201). The first record to use "doo-wop" in the refrain was The Turbans' 1955 hit, "When You Dance" (Herald Records H-458).[5] The Rainbows embellished the phrase as "do wop de wadda" in their 1955 "Mary Lee" (on Red Robin Records; also a Washington, D.C. regional hit on Pilgrim 703); and in their 1956 national hit, "In the Still of the Night," The Five Satins[6] enlivened the bridge with a plaintive "doo-wop, doo-wah."

Eventually the term's application was extended to include rhythm and blues groups.

YOU NEED TO ADJUST YOUR STATEMENT THAT THE TERM "DOO WOP" DID NOT ARRIVE UNTIL THE 1970'S

The Chords' 1954 hit, "Sh-Boom," is considered to have been the first rhythm-and-blues record to break into the top ten on the Billboard charts, reaching #9; a few months later, a white group from Canada, the Crew Cuts, released their cover of the song, which reached #1. Quickly, other R&B vocal groups entered the pop charts, particularly in 1955, which saw such cross-over doo-wop hits as "Sincerely" by The Moonglows,[7] "Earth Angel" by The Penguins, The Cadillacs "Gloria", The Heartbeats "A Thousand Miles Away", Shep & the Limelites "Daddy's Home", The Flamingos "I Only Have Eyes for You", The Jive Five "My True Story".[8] Doo wop uptempo groups such as The Monotones" Book of Love",[9] "Get a Job" by The Silhouettes, The Marcels " Blue Moon" got hits on Billboard chart. All-white doo-wop groups would appear and produce hits: The Mello-Kings in 1956 with "Tonight, Tonight," The Diamonds in 1957 with the chart-topping cover song "Little Darlin'(original song by AfroAmerican group)", The Skyliners in 1959 with "Since I Don't Have You", " The Tokens in 1961 with "The Lion Sleeps Tonight".

Particularly productive were doo-wop groups of young Italian-American men who, like their black counterparts, lived in rough neighborhoods (e.g. the Bronx and Brooklyn), learned their basic musical craft singing in church, and would gain experience in the new style by singing on street corners. By the late 1950s and early 1960s, many Italian-American groups had national hits: Dion and the Belmonts scored with "I Wonder Why," "Teenager in Love," and "Where or When"; The Capris made their name in 1960 with "There's a Moon Out Tonight"; Randy & the Rainbows, who charted with their Top #10 1963 single "Denise"; and with the Beach Boys the only other American band who enjoyed success both before, during, and after the British invasion, The Four Seasons had pop hits with "Rag Doll", "Come on Marianne" and many others. Other Italian-American doo-wop groups were The Earls, The Chimes, The Elegants, The Mystics, The Duprees, Johnny Maestro & The Crests, and The Regents.

If I was born somewhere in the 1930s and was in my prime in the 1950s, I would drive about in something like a 1959 Plymouth Fury. Tailfins, chrome, the beautiful music, lazy V8 and the endless highway. Living in the greatest era for mankind. Booming economy, atomic craze, space race, cool jeans, greaser hairstyles, the most beautiful and opulent cars ever made, the jet age and television.
Sadly the closest I can get to the 50s magic is by driving my classic 1984 BMW 635CSI across town in 2019, aged 26, listening to old classics and getting lost in a 50s fantasy.

You make an old lady feel like a 13 year old again. How much fun we had, just so sweet and innocent, really more ignorance about the other stuff in life. Mostly all my friends loved the sock hops and Friday night dances in the news boys gym... So we got older, cruising and listen to music that said it all. Thanks so much!❤️

    m.... w....

Your comment made me nostalgic, and I wasn't around for that era!😆

    m.... w....

    - Greenit - Thanks... Most of us born after the war had the same experience. People were nice, never met anybody rude, or down right mean spirited. My town of 25,000 was a true melting pot. I grew up with all colors, all kinds of kids from around the world. We thought every town was like that. My best friends were all colors of the world. We could go from house to house and it was like a history lesson, what people valued and respected you got to see someone else's values, shrug your shoulders and say well that different, that's cool. The biggest thing was all emigrants wanted to be just like us.. They wanted to blend in, not take over the culture. We all learned to like weird food from around the world. So kids were kids at school etc, then went home and spoke their native tongue, respected their cultural values, etc.
Of course our little utopia was not the whole world. I was shocked when the Watts riots happened. We had no clue what others had to endure, we did not see stuff on the TV like life for many in the south... We loved our black friends they were welcome anywhere. Most became very successful, and we meet at reunions and we bond just like 1957. If you didn't have black friends come to your party it was a boring affair. When they came, everyone danced every dance all mixed together.
Sometimes it is painful to reminisce and long for what was, and see what is... However I am forever grateful for that early experience, traveling the world I meet and greet all whom I see? And again we make friends, what does a smile cost, manners, sincerity... Oh gee, I should have told you, I am an old soapbox speaker, sorry for the rant, delete, delete if this is offensive..
But we still have the music.

    m.... w....

News boys gym. .cabbage town with peg leg bares

    m.... w....

Never get old listening to this music

    m.... w....

@maeva wong Your "little utopia" was just that. While you were bonding in 1957—and it's wonderful that you could do so—to say "We loved our black friends" implies a gulf between the deciding you and the accepting them. Had you said something like "We black and white friends did everything together," the picture you paint might have seemed a bit more convincing. Even so, you must realize that American society then was almost totally racist in every aspect of life. I'm sure most African Americans felt, and feel, most happy and comfortable among their own people, but to be treated as inferiors by white society and automatically denied opportunities everywhere had to be an unending bitter overlay of their lives—to say nothing of the actual physical dangers they faced, and still do, in some parts of the country.

I don't mean this as a putdown. I was in high school at exactly at the same time as you, and I can't claim anything like the personal multicultural experiences you had. Indeed, except for such obvious areas as music and sports, I never witnessed or sought out the kind of mixing you enjoyed. My schools (in Columbus, Ohio) were integrated from first grade on, and I had no idea there was any such thing as segregated schools in America until the Supreme Court's Brown v. Board of Education ruling of 1954. Still, I naively enjoyed the white privileges I had without even thinking about those who didn't share them. Although things have changed a lot, in law and in society, there is still much to be done.

Its interesting- especially for the younger people who enjoy this music of the 50s, that it was not called Doo Wop and that term wasnt invented until the 1970s. The original music was referred to as either Rock N Roll or Rhythm N Blues- just a historical note.

    h.... ....

Small correction.(I"m a VERY OLD DINOSAUR), the original sound was rhythm and blues. Period. The term rock and roll, was seldom used(one or two songs,no more) in the 40s, BECAUSE OF ITS SEXUAL CONNOTATION,.(at that time rock was the "pumping" in the sexual relation and Roll was precisely that, to roll in bed.(and those were black slang, but widely used by us white teenagers) The term RR was first used in a Chicago radio station in 1949. When old times, like Fats Domino were asked about the "new" sound(RR), he answered, like so many others, "we have been playing it for 25 years under the name rhythm and blues". Then by 1954 more songs used the term until, Bill Haley in 1955 used it in "Rock around the clock".(and it exploded!) This is the REAL history of the term,(and we, all in our late 70s and early 80s, can testify to that). Because we danced to these tunes!(and won"t tell you what we did in the back seats of our parents"s cars in Drive-Ins!).

    h.... ....

@gustavo kraiselburd - We just called it R&B Vocal Groups.

    h.... ....

When I was a Teenager and I discovered Doo_wop, I didn`t know that, But since I began to study I discovered it.
But I think it`s so important to design as "Doo-Wop Music" , because in the fifties 90 percent of the Rock`n`roll was Doo-Wop, but since someone invented heavy when you say "Rock`n`roll", even Classic Rock, they don`t think about Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and not about Elvis, Buddy Hollly or the Platters, The Diamonds. I wish I could be in the fifties, but unfortunately, we`re not there, soI want ev´rybody to know that I mean this kind of music and not the heavy kind of stuff. Doo-Wop, Oldies forever!

    h.... ....

@Jade Zee Brother: you are only 80% right. RR as a term started in 1949!!°(It has been used in one or two songs in the 30s). It exploded betweenn 1950n and 1951. OF COURSE ORIGINALLY IT WAS BLACK MUSIC,( WHITE SINGERS STARTED STEALING IT NOT BEFORE 1953) .(In the particular case of Pat Boone he was a later comer, around 1955 or 1956. The sexual lyrics, as long as they were sung by blacks nobody cared (But when in 1955, Elvis started using his pelvis, that"s was another story(TV CAMERAS WERE FORBIDDEN TO POINT BELOW HIS WAIST!) , iT IS TRUE THAT RR WAS INFLUENCED BY OTHER KIND OF MUSICS ,BESIDES R&B, BUT IN A very small scale. For instance, Country Music, or remember that the ORIGINAL PLATTERS acknowledged that when they toured the south they were armed with hand guns for the continuous harassnents),and some of their early songs were "proto-RR" (Any way the were a bit rockers but they also put as little grain of sand in ther "NEW MUSIC",. ONE LAST THING: WE WHITE TEENAGERS WERE forbidden TO DANCE RR IN OUR SCHOOL DANCES IN 1954,1955!!! (i KNOW You will be roaring with laughter but it is true, I LIVED THAT TIME!, Regards

I grew up in the 20s, and the 50s and 60s was when music turned to CRAP. No full brass sections, no tap-dance solos, where the fuck is even the conductor in doo-wop music??? 50s kids will never understand the simple joy of cruising the strip in your Model-T and doing the Charleston with some rando flapper.

    Huh? what do you mean....

    h.... i....

@Gloria Garcia so called "white guilt" means some some people give undo credit to make up for past wrongs that most people had nothing to do with.

    h.... i....

Let's be happy that doo woo is loved by people of all races. You don't need to keep score of what ethnic performer is getting kudos for what performance. Early rock helped break down barriers between the races in
America. Just about everyone loved the Del Vikings AND Fats Domino. Lots of teens all over America loved Chuck Berry and his songs like Maybelene. They probably also liked Deon and the Belmonts.God bless all these talented performers and the great performances they gave the world. Doo Woo and Rock and Roll are gifts to the whole world. THEY WILL ENDURE.

  75. R.... L....

    a.... n....

I am 22 years old (born 1997) - and it’s safe to say I was definitely born in the wrong era.

I absolutely love the music from the 50’s and 60’s - so much heart and soul put into it which makes it far more meaningful than songs about; sex, drugs, parties and alcohol... People who enjoy that must find something better to do with their time.

Never again will there be anything comparable to this era, very sad - it’s up to us young folk to keep these timeless tracks going!

    a.... n....

I’m 13 , my favorite music is jazz , doo wop , and CHUCK BERRY

    a.... n....

This is the edgiest shit I’ve ever seen

    a.... n....

@Chris Smith Kinda just sounds like you're missing the appeal of a lot of modern music which is a shame

    a.... n....

    Swing music is cool.

Now when they call you "Speedo" its cause you're on meth or you wear skimpy swimwear.

  79. t.... l....

if music was still like that, man it would be a better place

    t.... l....

It is. Doo wop is still produced, more now than ever. Please folks, stop pretending as though what's on the top 40 is all today's music is, it's really insulting to today's musicians.

  80. p.... ....

It's just like listening to the radio when I was a teenager....thanks.

    p.... ....

I'd have loved to experienced that in my teens, that was already faded out in my generation, I relax to this stuff it's the best.

I hear you and agree. Lighten up folks and enjoy the music!!!

    F.... P....

+Fatze Popul and +Michael Ivey, yes, the arrogance of these comments really are necessary. If you don't like it, find a rap channel and stay out of our lives.

  87. R.... C....

I am betting they play Doo Wop in HEAVEN?

    R.... C....

@labelladetampa Oh Alan what? You don't know and no one knows, so stop pretending you do.

    R.... C....

@Alan Jaffe the other side. Its what you make it. Music is everywhere.
I wont discus what people call heaven on the internet. I will say its not wings and living in clouds, pearly gates and such. What it is, is peace. Just know this, It exists. Call me crazy or whatever, but thats what i mean and know.
    Enjoy both.
    Enjoy your life.

    R.... C....

    @Alan Jaffe - I can say it!

    R.... C....

Love some of the songs never covered by white groups. (I'm of Scandinavian decent)

  91. T.... J....

absoultely great compilation-- love it-- i was a little too young to hear most of these songs when they came out, but they are so cheerful and upbeat and also great back up music and of course, vocals and harmony-- classics

    T.... J....

You're never too young....you can enjoy now. Just learn to dance to the slow grind.

    T.... J....

    Very romantic era in music.

  92. w.... w....

If you will notice that the music back in the day was playing behind the artist's. Today it is loud and is programed to override the "so called singer" due to their lack of talent.

    w.... w....

HUH? the music right now is loud so I can't hear what you're saying...have a cup of tea and just enjoy. And think of the girl you wanted to do what you're thinking

    w.... w....

    @Gloria Garcia cxt

  93. r.... ....

They often call me runner, but my real name is Mr. Earl.

    r.... ....

I remember listening to the "big boys" "blowing" & "harmonizing" on the street corners. This is street music of it's day. Rap and/or hip hop is the street music of today. That speaks volumes about us.

    r.... ....

IM a road runner and you cant keep up with me. Bo Diddley

  94. a.... a....

Hey. Great music. Never gets old

    a.... a....

    So true Andy. Well said.

  95. C.... ....

    Any chance of a tracklist?

    C.... ....

At the bottom of the screen you can find the artist and song title for each song.

  96. C.... D....

My old jams of the 50's For Every, thanks jacob pastor

  97. j.... 2....

This is music:. No frills, no choreography. By choreography I meant jumping around to hide the fact that groups can't sing like the groups of an era gone by!

    j.... 2....

Dude. There's nothing but choreography in this music. It's dance music to the extreme.

    j.... 2....

this is the real music love the 50s

    j.... 2....

Every one of the groups had their own choreography. They started it. But it was fun and a sheer joy to watch.
